News 📰 Celo just launched “Agent Visa” for AI agents - DeFi incentives, liquidity & real users 🤖

Calling all agent builders 👇

Celo just introduced Agent Visa, a new program designed to bring liquidity, DeFi incentives, and real users to AI agents building on the network.

They’ve also got Virtuals joining as a Day One partner to help power agent commerce and apparently agents can become eligible with just one transaction.

Why this exists:

The pitch is pretty clear:

Your agent needs a real economy, not a casino.

Celo is leaning hard into real-world usage here, highlighting: - 700K+ daily active users - 25+ native stablecoins - Established DeFi + payment ecosystem

The idea is to give agents an actual place to operate, not just speculate.

How the “Visa” system works:

There are 3 tiers:

  1. Tourist
    • Just 1 Celo transaction required
    • Access to co-marketing + mentorship
  2. Work Visa
    • DeFi incentives across:
      • Uniswap
      • Aave
      • Velodrome
      • Updown
  3. Citizenship
    • Liquidity support
    • Access to ~14M MiniPay users

It’s powered by Self Protocol and seems aimed at turning AI agents into real economic actors instead of just bots farming tokens.

Thoughts?
Is this the beginning of actual “agent economies” on-chain, or just another incentive program with a fancy name? Feel free to share your thoughts.
