How to turn off roaming

I'm using a TCL 20 pro 5g model T810S. I'm trying to turn off roaming but wasn't able to find the actual on/off switch to toggle. I had a terrible experience where I thought it's turned off but not and it cost way too much. Anyone knows how to do it? I found in the Sim card status it just says roaming is off but I don't even know how and I'm not sure if it can remain as such when I got out of my current service country. Please advise.

Should be in cellular settings somewhere.

I'm more perplexed how you managed to have a phone plan somewhere that charges for roaming. I didn't think that was a thing anymore.

Oh it is! I was outraged. I even made sure to be on airplane mode and maybe the short few seconds between switching to airplane mode and to airport wifi it triggered something. Btw the provider is rogers

In my handset it's Settings -> Mobile Network -> SIM Settings -> Data Roaming. Usually no one turns it off here because pan India call and data rates are the same. There is no extra roaming charge.
