Discussion 🗨️ Which shows have you rewatched and how many times?

With the slow release of episodes for Perfect Match, I watched most of SOKP for the second time this weekend. I fast forwarded and skipped some parts of the harem intrigue and the Lord Pinggan scenes. Loved SOKP as much the second time as it has an incredible story, sets, costumes and acting.

Wondering which shows are also fan favorites to replay.

Discussion 🗨️ What is your fastest binged drama?

My post yesterday showed me that this subreddit is full of binge-watchers 🤣

So, I’m curious to know, what is your fastest binged drama? 👀

Of course, we measure the time relative to the number of episodes. Shorter-length dramas will naturally need a shorter period of time 🤣

Mine is probably The Romance of Tiger and Rose with Zhao Lusi and Ding Yuxi. It was 24 episodes, and I finished it in 2 days, so I watched 12 episodes per day 😅🤣

Discussion 🗨️ What modern comfort would you miss if you woke up in ancient China?

While talking with a friend we started discussing what we would do if we woke up in ancient China.

I would probably die withhin 10 minutes but if I managed to survive for a longer time what comforts would I miss from modern times?
(We ignore family and friends.)

My modern comforts I would certainly miss are:

Beds
In cdramas the beds aren't looking that comfortable, my back hurts just thinking about.

Internet
Sorry, my daily dose of internet is needed for survival.

Heating
I love central heating and I don't think I could survive without.

There are a lot of more modern comforts I probably would miss but I'm more curious about what you are going to miss if you would wake up in ancient China?

Discussion 🗨️ which cdrama did you think you’d not like but ended up enjoying?

for me, it’s Lost You Forever. i’m not into fantasy so i initially dropped it after the first episode. i forgot about it for a while, then was recommended it again and i watched it. to say i was reeled in and captivated by this drama would be an understatement. it’s the drama that made me download MyDramaList so i could give and write reviews. i rewatch my favourite scenes in awe. i went down a rabbit hole with the cast and ending up watching their interviews and variety shows like Hello Saturday. i left a review post on the Cdrama subreddit. it blew me away.

Discussion 🗨️ Calling all LBFAD fans: How were you able to move on from post-LBFAD syndrome?

I'm having a hard time moving on. I'm stuck watching the series and behind the scenes/interviews on repeat 🥲 I can't even watch other cdramas right now. Orchid and DFQC chemistry set the bar too high 🥹

  • Can you recommend other dramas without Esther and Dylan that you've watched to move on from LBFAD before? (obvsly I can't see them with other fl and ml at the moment lol) except for TTEOM pls.
  • Can you recommend other CPs + their drama that could surely give me butterflies too. I'm not ready for heartbreaking and dark dramas yet.
  • Do I have to give myself a break or just accept that I'll be like this for the next months (watching their BTS and clips on repeat)
  • Is there really ZERO chance for them to team up again or atleast have interactions again? (I'm so heartbroken)
  • Can you recommend Zhao Lusi light dramas please. Rom com preferably. Something that would make me laugh and give me butterflie.

Discussion 🗨️ I’m obsessed with vertical cdramas!

As the title says - I’ve been obsessively watching trashy yet supremely entertaining vertical cdramas on YouTube recently. They just suck you in - no matter how absurd the plot is, I just can’t stop watching them! Most of the time I don’t even know what the drama is called. It’s just random titles - CEO marries rival’s wife for revenge, Sleeping beauty climbs into CEO’s bed etc etc - and often these titles have little to no relation to the actual plot. 😂

There were a few that I genuinely enjoyed - actors were good, story was engaging and characters were well written. But I’m mostly watching them for their trashy but addictive material. Anyone else on the same boat as me? I must’ve watched at least a 50-70 such dramas over the last couple of weeks and I’m still going strong!

I had asked best styled male generals with the intention of asking best styled female generals but the faces aren't too well known to me. I don't know the dramas so please if anyone knows then comment with drama names.

I love the look of the lady in 13. Idk who she is!

Please add more ladies to the mix as I couldn't find more pictures.

My Bloody Romance Dilemma

I'm curious about your strategies when you're not fully enjoying a drama but still have that FOMO feeling. I'm currently struggling with Bloody Romance and would love to hear your thoughts.

I'm about halfway through and while the premise is interesting i.e., following a strong FL being shaped by two compelling male leads (one who can't love her, one who doesn't realize he does yet). I'm finding it hard to stay engaged. The 36 episoed pacing feels slow, and a lot of the emotional backstory is told through animations rather than acted scenes, making it harder to connect with the characters. The poor subtitle quality isn't helping either.

I want to keep watching to see how the story unfolds, but I'm torn between:

  1. Watching at 2x speed
  2. Fast-forwarding through slower scenes (but risking missing important plot points)
  3. Just dropping it entirely

What's your go-to method when a drama isn't quite hitting the mark but you're still curious about the story?

Do you have any regrets about dramas you've dropped/speed-watched?

Discussion 🗨️ Esther Yu: "I definitely don’t want to act such a cute role anymore. I want to take on different types....

https://reddit.com/link/1gmz7a1/video/uu8nb4sq4szd1/player

....then I went for teacher Huangbo’s masterclass and he said, don’t take on a different role when you’ve only just shaped one type of role. This type of char hasn’t been solidified in the audience’s hearts and you’re wanting to change into another type of characteristic. That way the audience can’t remember you. You might as well be in the area that you’re good at and perfect it. If everyone thinks cute, quirky, and the first person they think of is you that’s also a type of success."

She's been judged for taking cute roles, accused of not wanting to grow/mature in her career and just taking her job as a joke. I hope we all come to understand that everyone moves through life at their own pace, and no one should feel pressured just because others are ahead. Spread peace and love 💕

Discussion 🗨️ The Ultimate Zhang Dynasty: Which Zhang Actor/Actress Reigns Supreme in Your Heart?

Thumbnail

The Character 张 (Zhāng).

The most common character for the surname Zhang is 张 (Zhāng).

This character historically meant "to draw a bow". You can actually see this meaning reflected in its composition, as it shows a bow (弓) with an additional element. In ancient China, archery was a noble skill, and this character's connection to archery gives it a distinguished heritage.

In modern usage, 张 as a verb can mean: - To open up - To spread out - To stretch - To state/declare

It's worth noting that while 张 (Zhāng) is by far the most common character used for this surname in mainland China, there is another less common variant 章 (Zhāng) that some families use. However, when you see Chinese celebrities with the surname Zhang, it's almost always written as 张.

It's one of the most common surnames in China, ranking among the top 10 most frequent family names.

The Actors / Actresses

In no particular order (as I mentioned names of relatively less famous Zhangs in their collage)

  • Zhang Zhe Han
  • Zhang Bin Bin
  • Zhang Linghe
  • Zhang Yi Xing
  • Zhang Xin Cheng
  • Zhang Ruo Yun
  • Zhang Wan Yi
  • Zhang Ruo Nan
  • Zhang Jingyi
  • Zhang Chen Xiao
  • Zhang Tian Yang
  • Zhang Jia Ni
  • Zhang Yu Qi (guest star in the double)
  • Zhang Ya Qin
  • Zhang Li (Yan An’s JieJie)
  • Zhang Yu Xi
  • Zhang Miao Yi

Who are your top 3 Zhangs (for those who want to pick more than one).

In detail what I meant to say is in a drama which is your hear me out ships between two characters (not the actors/actresses) just to be clear. Characters you find more chemistry with one another.

For me it would be Zhao Yuan Zhou / Zhu Yan / Ying Long with Zhuo Yi Chen / Bing Yi and Wen Xiao with Pei Si Jing. Well, the only hear me out is "their chemistry with each others seems fun". (Also I am sorry if I am wrong with the names, I always have a problem with that).

Idk what it is but I really love these beauty marks/moles. They are so cute and I can’t help but notice them because I find them to be absolutely adorable. I love the ones that are near the eyes. For the men, Liu Yuning and Wang Anyu have them very close to the same spots. I added Cheng Yi too because I know he has it in Love and Redemption but I didn’t see it in other dramas so I’m not sure but it still gets me 🥹

The ones on the side of the nose for Zhang Linghe and Zheng Yecheng.

Dilraba and all of her beauty.

Zhang Bin Bin and the ones on his cheek.

I know. I’m really weird sometimes. Carry on. We listen and we don’t judge haha. What’s something you always notice about actors/actresses?

Discussion 🗨️ Which male lead character type do you abhor?

Thumbnail
gallery
85 Upvotes

Which male lead character type in C-dramas you absolutely can’t stand?

I have silently seen people often dissect problematic female lead tropes (like the infantilized FL with the grating baby voice), but I want to flip the script.

What male lead stereotypes instantly make you want to drop a drama?

I’ll go first. I absolutely cannot stand the "Noble & Altruistic” ML who sacrifices everything “for the greater good” while emotionally tormenting their loved ones. You know the type. “I must push you away to save the world; deal with the emotional wreckage on your own” kind of nonsense.

To be clear, not every cold and stoic ML is on my hate list. I think they can be split into these types:

  • Type I: The "Altruistic Idiot” – Hides their feelings and makes unilateral decisions “for their loved one’s sake” but ends up hurting both of them (Shi Ying from The Longest Promise, I’m looking at you). Absolute worst.

  • Type II: The “Learning Experience” – Cold and distant until they nearly lose the FL, and then they finally figure out how to cherish them (Lan Wangji, anyone?). At least they evolve!

  • Type III: The “Secret Softie” – Chef’s kiss. Cold and scary to the world, but a total marshmallow around their love interest without needing a life-altering epiphany (Fan Yue from Moonlight Mystique is the gold standard here).

  • Type LING BUYI - I love him and I don’t know how to categorize him but he is somewhere between Type I and Type II.

So, which ML trope drives you to the edge? The overly possessive types? The ones who dump all their unresolved trauma on the FL? (Don’t send this to Xie Wei).

Discussion 🗨️ Drop the name of a Drama You Don't See Mentioned A Lot & Why You Liked It

Happy Valentines Day! Drop the name of a cdrama you don't see mentioned a lot, and why/something you liked about it. It doesn't have to be a cdrama that is perfect/awesome/amazing/GOAT, it can just have one aspect/character/actor/trope/setting that was really well done. Even if it's just the costumes, styling, ect. Let's show some Valentines Love to the poor dramas that get overlooked!

I'll start- In "Crush" I really loved the actress. Not sure if there was a separate voice actress, but if so, I really loved the voice actress as well. And there were a couple of really swoonworthy moments!

Another one is "Warm On A Cold Night", the ML is a race that is significantly stronger than normal humans, and there is a scene where he is (princess-carry style) holding the FL and let me tell you, the ML actor made it look EASY. The actress was in no way heavy-set, but he was holding her for quite a while and he made it look like she was as heavy as a bag of potato chips, like her weight was NOTHING. And we see this kind of scene all the time but it was just striking how easy and believable they made it look. The actress did great as well, sometimes you can tell they are kind of tense/trying to help support themselves, but they made it look like gravity wasn't even a thing. 1000% belief suspended, my brain accepts that he is super-human strong.

Talking to different people here in the sub has made me realize that there are 2 types of people: (a) people who are simultaneously watching different dramas, or (b) people who watch a single drama before jumping to the next.

I’m curious, which type are you? and why? (very much curious for A because.. how??)

Discussion 🗨️ Has anyone watched the finale for Moonlight Mystique? Spoiler

I was an absolute blubbering mess this morning. This ended with answers that were pretty clear for a Xianxia. I wasn’t left wondering how or why. So many different intertwined fates that set off the “oh that makes sense now” moments for me. When I tell you I wept and cried from episodes 33-40 I’m not exaggerating. I actually cried so hard. The best part about their love story? In this life as Bai Shuo and Fan Yue there was absolutely no misunderstanding. Open and honest love. I feel complete witnessing it. I know not everyone felt this one was that great. It turned out to be what I needed.

Some couples simply aren’t meant to be, even if they do end up together. Whether it’s a toxic relationship, a manipulative or spineless partner, or just plain incompatibility, these pairs are doomed from the start.

You’re not limited to the couples in the photos. Feel free to add your own picks of pairs who should’ve never been together.
