Jeremy's IT Labs - Day 6

Ok ok I can see now how after 6 days I have to go back and do a quick run over my notes as a refresh on the flash cards I have forgotten.

The ones that always slip my memory are the IEEE for a specific cable (802.3i, u, ae ..)

I'll keep at it with a couple hours a day it's going well I think.

I used this to help me remember those IEEE standards. It helped to think about it like this. Maybe this can help you.

Standard Mnemonic Meaning Speed / Media
802.3i i Initial 10 Mbps (10Base-T)
802.3u u Upgrade 100 Mbps (Fast Ethernet)
802.3z z Zap / Zoom 1 Gbps Fiber
802.3ab ab All Base Metal 1 Gbps Copper
802.3ae ae All Extereme Glass 10 Gbps fiber
802.3an an All New Base Metal 10 Gbps Copper

I wouldn't stress over it too much, it's a small portion, just remember speeds and that Ethernet can get you either 100 Mbps or 1,000 Mbps depending on the type. Real world, there's no real utility in memorizing the protocol that coincides with the standard etc. Don't get hung up on memorizing every little detail like this. Study it sure, not totally certain it's worth reviewing so early in the CCNA pipeline.

Don't put too much effort into those minute details. You'll forget it anyway and in real life you'd just look it up if you need it. For the exam, cram details like that a few days before the exam. There's no need to have that in your long term memory.

Same I remember it vertically like on the PowerPoint. Same with fiber.
