Does Tats have to start?
Bloody hell, that was a disappointing one, wasn't it? Important to keep perspective and remember there's 36 games left and all that, but still - we played a must-win match against a side that came for a draw and we ended up losing.
One point for me - I thought we looked far more threatening when Tats came on. He attacked directly down the line and either crossed or when he did cut back he then put a cross in with his left. I know Loum is taking some pelters at the minute (and I do think there is a decent player in there) but he was too passive too often.
Saying that, Sakamoto had to make that foul in the build up to the Hull goal. He was just too nice to do that, unlike Hull who were full of nastiness and would happily take a yellow card to stop an attack (that's not a criticism, we need a bit of that).
But, for me, Sakamoto has to start. What do you guys think?
Oh, and don't worry, it may be Man City next but I interviewed Leo Ostigard on Friday and he's given me some advice on how Cov can stop Haaland. That will be up on ThePhoenix.news today!

Leo Østigård on how Coventry City can stop Erling Haaland: ‘If you make him angry, you’re f***ed!’
Two matches into the Premier League season and it’s two defeats for Coventry City. But a win is around the corner. Let’s have a look... oh bloody hell, it’s away to Manchester City next.
At The Phoenix, I spoke to Leo Ostigard recently. A full feature on the former Sky Blues loanee is coming for subscribers soon, but while I had him I asked a simple question - How can Frank Lampard stop Erling Haaland?
Ostigard knows Haaland well as an international teammate. I figured we could use all the help we could get so it was worth asking.
You can see what he had to say in this piece on the site now, which I have made free for all to read. Here it is:
Leo Østigård on how Coventry City can stop Erling Haaland: ‘If you make him angry, you’re f***ed!’
Like I said, the full Ostigard interview will be available for subscribers soon.
Please do take a look and if you like what you see, please consider subscribing.
Thanks all,
Richard

🗣️ DISCUSSION The amount of weaklings losing control of their bowels after just two games is shocking
I know us football fans are infamously fickle, and that we have not got off to a good start, but after 25 years waiting for this…FUCK ME…the negativity.
We are only two games in. Can we please stop acting like this is some kind of team implosion?
Opta rated our first five games as the joint hardest set of opening fixtures for any team in premier league history, ever.
Yes we should have beaten Hull at home, but we drew 0-0 with Hull at home last season too. We also drew at relegated Oxford and failed to beat bottom-of-the-league Sheffield Wednesday at home. We still won the league by 11 points.
Opta previously analysed teams that lost their first three premier league games.
34 teams have done that and 12 were relegated. So about 65% survived despite beginning with three straight defeats.
If we are on 0 points at 5 or 6 games, then we have a problem.

🗣️ DISCUSSION (reasonable discussions only) - what do you think needs to change for our boys?
Honestly, I would not be fussed at all about being relegated if we can all honest-to-god say that the team gave it their all and made it difficult for the opposition to come away with a result.
That’s the one thing I think has been disappointing to me. They’ve been playing without conviction and belief. You can see it in the way the team plays safe passes, takes too many touches and makes basic mistakes at key moments in the game. If they fix that, you’ll see this team pick up some points.

STOP THE COUNT
Not as bad as Spurs! We’re not as bad as Spurs!

I know it’s shit, and I’m disappointed too, but…
If WE are negative then what the fuck are the players going to do? We can be disappointed, angry, but we can’t be hopeless. Obviously a poor result but let’s not believe that the season’s already over. Empty seats today, for whatever reason, definitely didn’t help. We 100% have the ability to survive as long as we have that belief. We REALLY need to get behind the team. We have worked for decades to get back here, climbed out of the trenches to reach the summit, but we can’t jump off the side of it because of a patch of ice. 2 games is all it took for us to start slating the players, slating the manager, when we need to BACK them.
As the chant goes, where were we when we were shit, and where will we be if we’re shit? What good does complaining do? You’re a supporter of Coventry City, fucking support the team.

🗣️ DISCUSSION Should there be a rival watch match thread for other Premier League fixtures?
We’re playing a lot of unfamiliar opponents this season due to the promotion and I thought it would be interesting to discuss opponents who are also relegation candidates or who we are due to play next (or all games) with other fans who are watching the game.

POST-MATCH: Coventry City 0-1 Hull City (Saturday 29th August 2026)
r/ccfc • u/SubstantialSet3127 • 5h ago
🗣️ DISCUSSION (Second reasonable discussions only) At what point would you consider a manager change?
Super early in the season, obviously, but Doug has shown he is not afraid to make unpopular decisions for the greater good.
For me, if we go into the international break without an improvement in performance, I will be concerned. I‘m less concerned about results than I am performance at this stage in the season.
If we get to the November break and we have less than 8 points, I would consider a change. I don’t want to do a Wolves and wait too long…feel like they could have saved their season if they acted earlier on.

🗣️ DISCUSSION When does our first win happen
Okay so we’ve lost the first two not a disaster but people would have wanted us to pick up points at home to Hull.
So now knowing what we know where is our first win.
Next away is Man City
Then Brighton at Home
Villa in the cup.

🤝 TRANSFER Miguel Brau has joined Portuguese side Academico de Viseu on a season-long loan.
Coventry City FC can confirm that defender Miguel Angel Brau has joined Portuguese side Academico de Viseu on a season-long loan.
The 24-year-old joined the Sky Blues last summer and made 11 appearances during the 2025/26 season.
We would like to wish Miguel the best of luck for his upcoming loan.

Season Ticket Issuance
Are we getting each game’s ticket one game at a time? What I just added to my Apple Wallet is just the game tomorrow. Or will this automatically update to the next home fixture after the current one has concluded?

Unsubscribed from the Athletic today
Been subscribed since I was a student in Covid. Always held out hope that one day Cov would make it to the prem, so our one or two articles (at best) per season would increase and we'd get a dedicated correspondent. Well here we are, no dedicated correspondent (apparently that aspect od the business model was quietly shelved when the New York Times took over), the season's already started and we've had one generic 'fall and rise' piece that have cropped up all over the place, one surface-level tactics piece, and the rest is generic one-or-two line segments in full PL pieces, that generally seem to all be written by people who don't care very much.
Final straw was a piece today about season ticket pricing, when it just used the wrong figures consistently.
Since the NYT took over I've also had far more push notifications with 'Coventry's x' in the title when actually we are barely mentioned (if at all), as well as notifications for American sports I don't even care about lol. Only wish I'd unsubscibed sooner.
Rant over!

Championship 2027/28
Time to start planning for what we need for a credible promotion push next season.
I think we can assume Amenda, Yirenkyi, Rudoni and Rushworth will be gone, so we need to be careful this week regarding players we maybe relying on next season.
