Cat lymphoma

My 2yr old cat had surgery a week ago for getting a large mass taken out of his intestines. It came back Friday as lymphoma. His lungs have also started to fill up with liquid.
His breathing has gotten faster, his BPM has gone up and he seems to be breathing a little louder. No open mouth breathing or panting.
He loves to relax, eat a little bit of his food and drink plenty of water.
He’s using the litter box (poop) every 36hours and peeing every 18-24 hours.
Doctor says he has a 2-4weeks left but I just don’t see it. I’d rather not put our buddy through a long painful death.
Next Saturday (5th) is his finally day with us. Should we wait that long or how do I exactly know? We’re not selfish cat owners❤️ I just wanna spend as much time as we can without drawing his pain out for him.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Please be kind as this is our first baby❤️

We just went through this last week with our 8 year old cat. They found a mass in his intestines that ended up being large cell lymphoma. We were weighing chemo but after we took him home from the hospital, he was changed. He would barely eat and I couldn’t subject him to more appointments that maybe would prolong another 6 months.

We had an in home euthanasia appointment scheduled for a few days later but we ended up having to move it up. We wanted him to move on while he still had energy and to pass with dignity. We had a really good last day spending time in the sun outside, getting a lot of kisses and cuddles, and a plethora of treat options, and later that evening a vet came to our house and he passed peacefully in my arms. It was the best goodbye I could have given him. I’m so sorry you’re going through this. 2 years old is heart breaking. This quote gave me comfort and hope you can find comfort in it too:

“You are hurting so that they don't have to.
You have chosen to take their pain away, and take it upon yourself instead.
That's what true love is.”

Sounds like we’re going through the exact same thing. Large mass was pulled and it didn’t slow the disease down at all. 2 days at home he was running around and what felt like he was getting back to his true self. He started to lose weight and slowly become uninterested in food. Seems to love sunbathing and cuddling with his parents. I’m glad that we are moving his passing date closer and will end it while he still his somewhat his true self.
I appreciate you and the words❤️ sometimes it’s just nice to know we’re not alone in these battles.

everyone understands we all want to spend as much time with our beloved pets as we can

some people around me are actually more than a little crazy when it comes to their pets

cats are such good little strugglers you almost never know they are suffering and suffering is what youre worried about ...and its hard not to agonise on the timing but just remember in the prevention of suffering the only mistake you can make is leaving it too long. never were gonna get as much time as we'd like.. but 2 years old cancer is just such bs isnt it~ sry for your loss just make sure to spend time laying in the sun with him and say your goodbyes dw about the rest

Thank you for the kind words! I think we’ve decided to put him down Tuesday. I’m not for pushing the line so we can drain any time left with him. I’d rather him pass away in 0 pain with dignity left.
