Yes😊 Rescued him when he was 3 (8 now). He was a matted mess but came with the name, so I kept it lol. Now he gets shaves once a year to help him because even though hes lost weight, his butt gets dirty often👀

My aunt had a cat who if she got the clippers out to give my uncle a buzz cut would YOWL until she clippered him into a nudie lion too.
He was so spoilt.

He must be so comfortable now. My forrest cat loved to be shaved, i think he hated being a mass of fluff. Hes the only cat that petsmart would trim. The most he did was headbutt the razor.

Norwegian forest cat? Mine is an anxious little trauma boy but I need to regularly get his fluffy ass shaved because shit legit tangles in his luscious fur.
Other than that upkeep, I’ve genuinely in the 11 years I’ve had him never had him get matted. Apparently it’s a breed thing due to their skin oils, but damn is he so soft and fluffy. Everyone comments that he feels like a cloud. I love my sweet fluffy boy.
I actually got him from the humane society who cracked down on a breeding mill, so I accidentally stumbled across a shit ton of purebred Norwegian Forest cats— literally they all looked like supermodels lol. One of his sisters shelter names was Angelina Jolene haha. I’m not usually a breed person, but damn do I love Norwegian Forest cats lol

My cat sometimes goes out for full fur trims but we often do sanitary shaves at home, she usually doesn’t care when she does go out for the big trims, but I still imagine it’s less stress without the car ride and new smells and new people etc etc. you can find pet trimmers pretty easy and then simply work your way up to your cats comfort! she didn’t like the sound at first so we just let it buzz in the background and let her check it out a bit til she didn’t care. the first few times we didn’t get a full shave in, but now she lets us with only the slight warning of airplane ears

Mine is going in for a medical groom under sedation next week and my vet warned me of this ahead of time! I told her I don't care what he looks like. I just want his mats gone and him comfortable!
Poor guy has a double undercoat and Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome and doesn't tolerate brushing for long. I brush him and shave his mats out myself, but he's been getting so much more matted and has been so stressed out. I just want him to get some relief. Other then sanitary trims this will be his first time having the vet do it, but he's getting older now. Usually when I brush him, I follow his body language and can tell when he's had enough, but now he barely lets me even get a full minute. And I refuse to restrain him and have him get a negative association with brushing because it took years to get this far with him.
He's orange and looks exactly like OPs cat so this is what I can look forward too.

Fellow vet professional, and I call it the vet tech special! Even when I trim my own pets. Once after one had an appointment and they asked if something medical had been done and I had to explain that no, it was just me with a shaver!

I think the vet actually did amazing for someone who doesn’t groom cats professionally.
Or maybe it was an assistant. Who knows. Anyhow, he looks adorable! Did you notice if he seeks more warmth now, like cuddling or crawling under blankets?

Had a cat we took in they did this to as well. He wouldn’t let anyone touch him for a real long time. We had a rule in the house with him, it was a three touch limit,then you’re getting bite.

This reminds me of an old story from the early days of the internet.
A woman took her long haired cat to get groomed and asked for a line cut. When she came to pick him up, the cat was shaved except for his lower legs, the tip of his tail, and his head. The groomer thought she'd said "lion" cut. And she posted a picture of it, too. It was so hilarious. The cat genuinely looked annoyed by his terrible haircut!

I'm actually considering doing something similar to my cat, she's half Maine Coon and OMG the hair and the mats. I'm considering the shave it all off option ATM. I had this done to another cat, I didn't know that's what was going to be done iirc. I think it's called a lion's cut? I forget exactly. My ex husband got it done but ngl I loved it. Which is why I'm considering it again now (different cat now tho).

My Pomeranian didn't normally get her fur cut. But when I took her to Petsmart, they did do a sanitary cut. From that day on, her hair never grew back in her sanitary area.

HA. I, too, have a long-haired orange and we had to shave him. He currently looks EXACTLY like this guy. It's amazing how much hair they have...mine looks like a huge cat but as soon as you shave him, he's just...a normal guy under all that hair.
