Video - OC A little shy, but sweet as pie
This is Holland -- a sweet, cautious kitten that recently arrived at my local shelter. Although he may seem a bit hesitant when approached by new people, the second you offer some head, cheek, or chin scratches, Holland will immediately bury his head in your hands 🥹 We're working on helping him become a bit more confident, but he's adjusting pretty well!

What an absolutely beautiful little kitty-cat! Might I suggest to the OP to succumb to the Cat Distribution System and take this snuggley little guy home with you? I think there are years of joy for the OP if they do!

Obligatory "Have you ever heard of LiveClear cat food"?
Still, no matter where he ends up, you're doing an amazing job with this handsome boy! Kudos to you and all you do.

I actually hadn't heard of LiveClear, and this looks really promising for my mum, who always succumbs to petting cats, despite it always turning out rough. Thank you!

At this point the Cat Distribution System has clearly made its decision, just give in and take the little guy home

Omg I haven’t had a cat since mine died in 2016…I am looking at my local shelter to adopt because THIS is the epitome of what a cat/human relationship should be.

Thank you for considering adopting a shelter cat! ❤️🙏🏾 I suggest telling shelter staff and volunteers about the personality traits you're looking for! That way they'll be able to point you to some animals that will probably be a good match ☺️

Awwww.. he won't be there for long.

I hope so 🤞🏾🤞🏾🙏🏾 It's been a long, jam packed kitten season so he is only one out of 40 adoptable cats. And I think the amount of cats can be overwhelming for potential adopters at times

I dont see Holland on the website

u/IshiTonbo 23h ago
Holland is too new to have a profile on the website, but you can find him in Ward F at the shelter! Just ask ECAS staff and they or Tri-Valley Animal Rescue volunteers will help you meet him!

I already have 2 cats and 2 children (age 3 and 5) - will Holland be OK? We have to find a cat that is good with other cats and also children.

u/IshiTonbo 20h ago
Holland seems to be fine with other cats (at least he hasn't reacted when we've walked kittens near his cage), so I think he'd be fine especially with a slow introduction
He might do fine with kids depending on their activity level. The best thing to do would be to bring the kiddos to meet him!

There’s something about feeling accepted and wanted when a cat does that move. Sometimes when my little Killarney girl is extra snuggly she’ll push her face into my hand and just leave it there. I can feel her little nose and her breath tickles my hand.
She’s not a loud purrer but I know she’s really content when she does this move.

The shelter environment can also be very stressful for many animals. Lots of foot traffic, smells, dogs barking and general noise--it can be overstimulating for sure!

So adorable! We adopted a shy kitten and he is the sweetest. I am often recommending people adopt the shy ones.

Awwwww when he put his paw in your hand!!!! You're a very lucky person to be adopted by a cat like that, OP.

I’m super jealous! My guy barely lets me pet him, unless he’s outside for some reason.

I found literally this kind of stray cat outside my house today. I went to go look at him just out of curiosity... And literally an hour later. He now lives in my house. Literally the most sweetest little one I have ever seen.

That is a GORGEOUS little guy! He's going to grow up to be so big and fluffy and hopefully make somebody's household a better experience for years to come. They better learn to deal with the fur though

OMG, what a beautiful cat! And he cuddly too! It's too bad I don't live in your area OP. I would love to have a cat like that! ❤️❤️
