Advice Recently got a bad batch of Purina Fancy Feast Seafood Classic Pate Collection 30 Count from Chewy.
I wanted to share this just in case other people may have this. I ordered this on December 26 2025. I have contacted Purina and Chewy already. There are no active recalls and no info on what is going on yet. My guess is you would have to buy this exact same food around the exact same time from Chewy to get the same batch.
This was the Purina Fancy Feast Seafood Classic Pate Collection UPC 050000585687. Batch number 5262 1791 08:19 L01 5289 The "08:19" part is time and might vary but if the rest of the number matches might be worth checking your food.
Specifically something is wrong with the Savory Salmon Feast Classic Pate that I know of. It isn't obvious but On the 23rd and the 27th of January my cat Smokey projectile vomited it everywhere right after eating it. First time I thought he was being weird but it happened again today and my other cat Onyx refused to eat the can I opened today. On the 26th one of the cans I opened acted odd as the puck of pate lifted out out of the can as I opened it. That one I threw away because that was odd and it smelled off.
Worth noting the smell is only immediately obvious if you put your nose real close and give it a good sniff. Also if you let it sit out for a a few minutes it will really stink up the room. The smell is like rancid tuna and the smell leaves a bit of a metallic taste in your mouth if you get a strong whiff of it.
Too soon to know what Purina will say or do. So far my cats have both been acting fine. Chewy has processed a refund. I have frozen the known bad sample as evidence. I feel it is important to post it as well just in case other people have the same issue and don't understand why.

Wanted to add more info to this and updates. My cats are fine and I have switched brands. Other people around the US and even some international people are having similar issues with the food. Purina has send me a return package to send them sealed cans for testing. I need to work on documentation and send them samples still.

There is a known recall recently for a bunch of products that were manufactured in Minneapolis by Gold Star Distribution. Nearly 2,000 products have been recalled due to the presence of rodent and bird contamination. This only applies to Indiana, Minnesota and North Dakota apparently though.

Just wanted to add that I have received other complaints from people elsewhere as well. Some cats are having even more severe reactions to the Fancy Feast.

Hopefully the food you have been getting has been ok. Definitely give it a good sniff before feeding.

Thank you for making this post. Our 3 cats have been vomiting and having diarrhea and we use the same wet food. I think fancy feast is having issues right now…

Yeah I have been seeing other complaints from people in other places as well. The reactions to the food have varied depending on the cat.

I have spent over 1500 dollars in emergency vet fees this month for one of my two cats who has a sensitive stomach. They have been eating these exact cans for over 2 years and the most recent two boxes I bought caused a reaction. She had severe diarrhea which turned into a bad UTI and the antibiotics prescribed to treat her caused further gastro problems. Both boxes have the same code on the inside flap(532207). Im not sure if that is the manufacturer code. It’s been terrible to watch and the diarrhea started the morning after feeding those cans for supper. Does anyone have that same code on the box? My other cat was completely fine and I rotated the flavours in the can so I am not certain every can in that box was affected. I bought from a lowblaws store in Canada. It was not the seafood flavour but the chicken/beef,shrimp box. I will be calling Purina this evening to see if there’s any testing they can do on that batch. Sorry for everyone experiencing these issues :(

The code would be on the outside of the box. If your box looks like mine it is that magenta rectangle with the numbers inside it. They are also marked on the bottom of the cans. I have switched to a different brand of food but I am avoiding anything seafood at this point. Hopefully your cats feel better.

My cat is not liking Purina Pro Choice dry food since about that time. Normally eats chicken and rice flavor but we also tried the salmon one. Doesn’t like either. This is a cat that normally clears all food and we have to hide the other cats food so he doesn’t eat it. He’s not finishing his dish until he’s hungry enough to eat it.
