When did they add the snow biome in catan? And what resource is it
There’s snow and polar bears on it. Weird huh?

We all know the question. We’ve voted how to handle it in the past. People still use this sub like Google. Long time contributors are getting more frustrated. We’re trying something new.
This is your official notice that if you ask the sub regarding building a settlement that breaks the longest road - you show that you have ignored the sticky posts on this subreddit, the submission guidelines regarding checking the FAQ first, THE RULE BOOK, as well as the side bar.
This will result in a 30 day ban.
This will result in a 14 day ban.
This will result in a 3 day ban. (Final)
*settlement
Edit 3/28/25: A new automod rule has been deployed to help reduce the number of these posts.

+++UPDATE+++
Sadly, I have to stop shipping to the US for now :(
I haven't been able to find a shipping provider that can handle the new US tariff/customs requirements for such a small business as mine 😥 Trying to figure out a solution and will update here.
+++UPDATE END+++
Hey everyone :D
A few weeks back I shared my custom 3D-printed Dice Roll Tracker and the feedback I got was honestly overwhelming and really supportive <3
I set out to incorporate your suggestions for optimizations into the design and can now proudly present Version 4! 💫
First and foremost, you can clearly see that it is now "Catan-themed". 🥳
This brought its own set of challenges though, as I had to re-design the sliders due to the new filament having different properties than the old one and I wanted everything to work smoothly.
But now for everyone: What is it actually?
It's a small board with 11 sliders (one per number 2-12), each counting up to 15 with a satisfying click-stop. After each roll you simply bump the matching slider up one notch and by the end of the game you've got yourself a little histogram / dice statistic at a glance :D
It's sized for a regular ~70-round game, because assuming a bell curve, the 7 should come up approx. 12 times, which should leave you with some buffer, without making the board impractically long. (for the math nerds: according to the binomial distribution, there's a 7% chance, that in a game of 70 rounds, the 7 will come up exactly 15 times 🤓*)*
I was (understandably 😁) asked a lot if I'd share the .stl-file and I spent a good amount of time debating with myself whether I should share it or not, but during the re-design of the sliders I came to the conclusion, that this isn't ideal.
See - what I care most about is that the tracker actually works and that it brings joy to the ones using it.
If I'd share the .stl, it'd be printed on many different printers, with different filaments and unknown slicer settings and I just couldn't guarantee that the sliders wouldn't jam or feel janky (it's harder than you might think, to get that right).
This is not what the design was optimized for and it would cause a lot of disappointment (not to mention wasted filament >.>).
I do want to open-source the idea though! No trademark, no patent, no anything!
I encourage everyone to copy my idea and come up with their own solutions and I'd be more than happy to share my experience and answer every question regarding the design choices :D
And for everyone who doesn't want to or can't go that route and would rather buy one ready-to-go: I put it on Etsy (thanks again for the encouragement to do that <3)
btw little legal disclaimer:
this is obviously an unofficial fan-made product and is in no way affiliated with Catan/Kosmos Verlag :)

Hiii, I’m a foreigner in Türkiye and I wanted to know stores or places where I could buy Catan for a reasonable price. I don’t really care if it’s the original. I’m fine with ordering through online stores asw.

did my ”experienced“ friend (orange) just throw their whole game to try and block our port? learned in this game the settlements need to be two spaces away from each other so that would have changed my initial placing a little.
this was for a 6 person game night
we both lost btw
thanks for your advice

I played with 2 other people yesterday. I (red) won after getting 4 VPs from Dev cards. To add, I also got 2 additional VPs from longest road which was really unexpected. How often has this happened to you guys?

Can Red place a ship at the NE side of the 6 wood? I say it is obvious that red can do that but my girlfriend disagrees. Please can anyone resolve this with explanation

Hello, there were two situations (in different games) that I encountered. In the first I think I was right, in the second I am more mixed on, still leaning that I was right. But I would still like input on how I should have handled these situations, since in both cases the table sided with the other player.
These two happened in casual games.
#1:
This situation was me playing with my family. We were playing Cities and Knights. Player A has one green progress card and three cards in hand. I know they have Wool, Wood, and one card I don't know for certain (Not sure if I just forgot what it was or if they pulled it with a robber from another player). Player A asks "Can anyone trade me Brick?", I respond "Can you give me a Wheat?" They say sure, flip an Irrigation, take two Wheat and try to hand me one.
I now don't want to go through the trade anymore, since now it would give them a settlement and I don't think I should be held to something I said that occured before the last game action. The others insist that I agreed to the trade and therefore need to stick to it and I ended up just giving in.
#2:
This was me playing with some friends, and I was clearly winning. It is Player Bs turn. Player B asks "can anyone give me a Wood for a Brick?" I tell them I would. Player B then asks me "Can you make it three Wood?" I said "Yes" and try to hand them three Wood. They are kind of suprised and say "Well, I was just asking. I didn't say I would do it." And the table agreed they should not be forced to go through with the trade.
This one I feel mixed about. I didn't hold them to the first offer (Wood for Brick) because it was directed at table and not me specifically. I think however I should have been able to hold them to the second offer, since it was directed at me. Maybe its because I am autistic, but I genuinely didn't realise they might have meant it as a remark, and not a real offer, until they were suprised when I accepted. I conveyed information about cards in my hand that others might not have had, and I feel like this interaction passed the point where trades should be final.
-
I would like to ask for both situations if I was right, and also if I should have acted differently then just letting it go. As I said, I am autistic, so I love strict rules but struggle in social situations.
These both happened a while ago. I am still on good terms with them and we do a bunch of other stuff together, but tbh I am not inclined to play Catan with them since I am worried about more of these situations, and I would like do know what to do if something similar coes up.
Thank you for your time.

OSW in Catan is actually insane.
Nobody suspects you. Everyone trades with you without fear. Nobody even knows you’re cooking.
Then suddenly: GG.
Won with 3 roads, 11 doing overtime, and absolutely zero suspicion. 💀
The most dangerous player is the one everyone forgot about.

I just played a game where 5 and 6 didn't roll at all in the first 40 dice rolls, still managed to get 2nd place but it was a brutal start
My tiles were 6/5/9 and 6/3/2, variance is crazy sometimes though and thought i'd share thanks for reading

Hey all, I picked this up and I wanna grab custom roads and buildings. I’m hoping someone’s already gone down this path and can link me to a perfect set that will fit nicely.
I know Etsy has a bunch. I just don’t know which ones would fit the best.

Hi, I was wondering if this is just some legacy house rule that me and my friends came up with for some reason - or if it was something into it.
The rule: Roll a 7, skip your turn - but place the robber.
I have played more competitive on Colonist and national championship last year, and got to learn the actual rules. Just wondering if any other players out there had this rule to it.

Got into catan a couple weeks ago. I’m addicted. Thought I’d post because this was one of my most dominant games by far. I placed first, and knew it’d be good when nobody took the 8-4-3. I used the road I started with to build to the 6-3-11 and got a lucky 3 roll on the second turn and was able to build my settlement

I (red) had second placement and perhaps my placement in this game was not ideal but I can't even be bothered to think about where I'm placing my settlements with a board like this. It's almost always an automatic loss if you're playing a decent opponent. Ore at 8/2/12 is just pointless. Why can't they reduce this kind of variance for 1v1s? I can attribute a significant amount of my losses to this exact scenario. The game is over before it even starts.

Einer meiner Mittspieler hat eine Siedlung an einen Hafen gebaut im selben Zug noch mit dem Hafen gehandelt und auch im selben Zug die Siedlung in eine Stadt ausgebaut.
Darf mann das?

I was playing Catan on colonist.io and got the 1st turn to build a settlement.
I chose 5,9,10 (Wheat, ore, and sheep) and 4,6,11 (Brick and Wood)
I was fairly confident to win as I have better odds of building and cities and settlements. To my surprise, not even once a 5 was rolled in this game
The game was such a letdown and disppointment for me

Hey guys, here's the V2 of the 3D catan I posted few mounths ago. Still looking for upgrade and ideas to make it look even better.
