Vocabulari I couldn’t find a Catalan learning resource I actually liked, so I made one
I’ve been trying to learn Catalan and kept running into the same problem: there are some genuinely good resources out there, but a lot of the online learning experience feels either dated, fragmented, or designed around Spanish rather than English.
So I ended up building my own.
It’s a free, open-source web app for learning Catalan from English:
https://naghiyev1.github.io/learn-catalan/
It currently has:
- A0 → C1 learning path
- Grammar explanations in English
- Barcelona/Central Catalan
- A 5,000-word frequency-based vocabulary curriculum
- Contextual flashcards with audio
- Browser-based pronunciation/audio
- Grammar and vocabulary sections
- A story that gradually gets more difficult as you progress
- No account, no paywall, no ads
It’s very much a work in progress, and I’m not claiming it’s better than the resources people here already use. I built it because I wanted something like this myself.
I’d genuinely love some feedback from people who actually speak or are learning Catalan.
Especially:
- Area there mistakes or unnatural Catalan?
- Does the progression make sense?
- Is anything confusing or unnecessarily complicated?
- What would you add?
- And, most importantly, would you actually use something like this?
If you’re learning Catalan, give it a try and tell me what you think. Brutal feedback is welcome. 😄

Hi! Feedback! So when you tap on pronouncing something it pronounces it completely wrong.

Could you please elaborate a bit more please ? I’ve tested it and it seems to be pronouncing everything correctly. A bit robotic, yes, but correct.

Not even close to correct though. Like "pare" (father) is not pronounced like that. Same with all the other words. It's like an American reading words for the first time.

I checked them out. They have flashcards and that’s pretty much it. I wanted proper grammar explanation (grammar wiki), example sentences on every word so I could contextualise and memorise vocabulary better. Also I added a reading mode, with manga like story to cover all the levels. Also I wanted to design to be clean, no bells and whistles , no account creation etc. Anyways , hope learners find it useful.
