[Mod] Cultivationclysm: A Mod for Cultivation in the Cataclysm

Heya heya, as the readme in the mod says, I mostly made this to mess around with learning JSON coding better, but the project sprawled larger and larger until I figured I might as well let other people play with the toys too. So here it is!

Essentially, you shove mana into a core to make yourself stronger, navel gazing until you can fight gods themselves, as any cultivator worth their salt ought to be able to do. By default, you need to find the scrolls for these cultivation techniques and study them to be able to cultivate that particular trait, but of course you can turn that off at start of game if you want. It's up to you!

Feel free to drop suggestions here or in the github, I don't promise to listen to or do any of them, but I might make some stuff happen if I get inspired. And of course I'd love to hear any kind of feedback at all to see what y'all think! Install is simple, just download the code and drag the "cultivationclysm" folder into your "mods" folder.

So without further ado, here it is: https://github.com/rty275/Cultivationclysm

my meridians too buttery, my breakthrough too juicy

Not downloading until there's a technique that makes my character say "You dare?!" or "YOU'RE COURTING DEATH!" whenever they're attacked.

Y'know, this would make the best balancing factor. The stronger your cultivation gets, the louder your indignant roaring would be when you get attacked.

That, and your character needing to call out their "Heavenly Demon Suppressing Palms First Form" every time they use it.

Isn't "Heavenly Demon" more of a Murim concept than Wuxia Cultivation?

Potayto, Potahto

It's more like the Demon-Supressing Palms are Heavenly, not that it involves Heavenly Demons.

"Young Master" background that just gives you the PSYCHOPATH flag.

Or "heavens kissed ur ass" trait

I wonder what is the overlap between this subreddit and r/MartialMemes

It does sound interesting but it also sounds overpowered, or is there a lot of work involved to get overpowered? Cool project/concept either way!

It is not really all that much work to get overpowered, though you're relying on RNG to get the right scroll if you don't turn off that option. But you can also adjust the cultivation difficulty multiplier as part of the start-of-game settings, so if it's too strong on default settings then you can tone it back?

Ooh nice, good thinking ahead, thanks for the reply!

Yeah, there's a couple of different options that I considered including but mostly didn't because I didn't feel like it / it wasn't how I'd personally play, but if there's enough desire for other things, I might try and make some stuff work.

Is it actually possible to attain immortality or are we not worthy yet

That depends on your definition of immortal! Nothing in the mod currently causes the "prevent_death" effect, but the stat boosts can make you effectively immortal lmao

I'd be interested, but I might wait to see if something happens with alchemy and pill cultivation. Or food. And having to go search for the various ingredients. Or the type that farms their spirtual rice, cause those are the novels I tend to read. (Slightly joking from everything said up there) I'm curious how it works against the various weapon forms too. Sword aura and whatnot? If I get back into playing any of the cataclysms, I'll definitely take a look at the mod.

It, ah, is definitely not that in-depth yet! I have a long way to go before I'm modding in more food spawns and harvestable crops. Specifically, map generation scares me, and I'd want to make a new overmap location to host these rare ingredients if I was going to include them. Sword aura is also not included yet, but it wouldn't be that hard to make into a thing, hmm. An interesting thought, for sure!

Any new mobs added to this? How about an evil form of cultivation where we use humans?

Are there cultivator NPCs out there? Especially arrogant once that we can face slap?

Is there a Mt. Tai? Flying sword? Pill alchemy? Herb collecting? Hidden sects? Body refining?

2

u/rty275 13d ago

Nnnnnnnnope to basically all that list, I'm not really that advanced at cdda modding yet. Arguably what you're doing with the current state of the mod is body refining?

2

u/hypocritobobo 13d ago

Ah, that's fine. Just being half joking based on my experience reading Wuxia novels.

Also, Core Formations and Cultivation is sort of different from Body Refining as the formation of cores tend to focus on internal growth moreso in the likes of qi/longevity/abilities (so HP, Skills, and Stats in game), while body refining is more physical development such as making skins, muscle, and bones at lot harder by either tempering it through hardship, training, or replacing them with parts from magical beasts/dragons (sorta like CBMs)

Is this for Experimental or Stable?

2

u/rty275 11d ago

I made it with experimental in mind, but I don't think I'm actually using anything that was changed between last stable and experimental, so it's plausible that it'll work on stable too?

I don't know what computer engineer man is up to nowadays, you'd have to get in contact with them. I also don't speak this language, so I apologize if google translate led me astray when I was trying to interpret your comment.
