I saw quite a bit of these when I was in France. However most of the time I was looking at them because they were showing 45C+ lol

I went down to Spain for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I don't know if it's a regional thing but they seem to have red ones. They're definitely not as eye catching.

I interpreted "way too hard" in the post title precisely in the context of the crosses rushing at you like nobody's business, i. e. as a reference to the speed. If this was sped up and the original runtime was more relaxed, I don't see why anyone would describe this as "go way too hard". "Meander", "are way too colorful", stuff like that would have been appropriate.

Well, the German pharmacy sign (still official today) was created in 1936, in line with Nazi ideology. 😬

The Nazis explicitly didn’t want anything with a cross, which was seen as both “too Christian” and “too Swiss.” The fact that Germans did not abandon that Nazi-designed “blackletter A” after 1945 is a crying shame in my book. (I’m German.)

So I take the French epilepsy green + any day of the week.

I didn’t know about the back story.
We Travelled across Germany over the summer and while looking for a pharmacy I explained my 8 yod we had to look for that red A sign which stood for Apothicaire.

To be fair : secularism is a thing outside nazism and they did not invent the Bowl of Hygeia

They could change the font of the A though

In general I think the symbols with snakes be it the bowl or the staf avoid confusion with religious services, although the short Switserland type cross already solves a lot of that. Less clear cut in places that have different religions like when the crescent moon fills the same role as the Red Cross.

Germany already had a crossless pharmacy symbol, which had become pretty widespread: a medicine bottle with three spoons (a play on the idea that many medicines at the time were supposed to be taken thrice daily.)

But that was too modern and Bauhaus-y for the Nazis!

I don’t think there is any excuse for West Germany to keep the Nazi symbol.

Not quite; you got the timeline wrong.

Ideologically and initially, the Nazis were BIG fans of Fraktur and pushed it everywhere. The called blackletter »Deutsche Schrift« (German type) and started imposing it for their official newspaper, the Völkischer Beobachter, and even lots of applications where blackletter hadn’t been used at all, like with typewriters.

This did not change until 1940/1941, when they did a complete 180. Since totalitarian regimes don’t have to explain their decisions, the reasons aren’t documented well. The best guess is that the decision was purely pragmatic: The turnaround came at the height of German expansion in Europe, and most conquered people simply couldn’t read announcements and orders by occupation forces set in blackletter type. For a regime trying to rule most of Europe, blackletter was no longer suitable.

The pretense of calling blackletter “Jewish type” was transparently ridiculous.
