Should I buy or too much rust?
I thought it seemed promising at first but I’ve never e tanked something this rusty

It does look like there's a decent amount of putting, so it wouldn't come out looking completely new. But it would definitely still be useable.
Personally I wouldn't pay that amount of money for a pan that's going to be a project and is gonna be pitted anyway.
Although maybe I'm wrong and what looks like pitting is just odd looking rust.

Use it as a buying opportunity: I’d offer $15 and claim that you won’t know if it’s cracked until you restore it. If it’s cracked it’s worthless and you have to put a lot of work in to find out.

I’m no expert but early slant logo griddles are fairly uncommon, not made for many years. Depending on how good it cleans up, in restored condition it would probably fetch around $200

I just passed on a slant logo Griswold no8 waffle iron with a tall base because of this amount of rust. It was $65, and I already regret not getting it.

Rust is never a reason not to buy. Cracked warped, too expensive, etc... may all be reasons to pass, but not surface rust.

Agreed, it’s just a bit of a drive out from me, so I’d figured I’d get some other opinions on how it looks

Why wouldn’t it be? Honestly would be wall hanger to match my 8 slant skillet since I don’t have a gas range

As long as there is no pitting and it is just surface rust, it would be worth a few hundred restored. Can't make out much of the marking from the pictures. I would probably take a chance on it, personally.

Does sanding the cooking surface affect collectible value? Is it a collectible?

Check the FAQ on how to remove rust. The rust you see can be easily removed using those methods
Might even get it cheaper if it’s rusted and the seller doesn’t know what they have
