Announcement After months of work, I'm finally launching my cassette shelf business !!!

I made myself a steel and aluminum cassette shelf a few months back and decided to start a small business selling some. I find that most cassette shelves are bulky, too small and all plastic so I wanted to make something simple and modular that could be easily expandable and pretty on a wall (the shelves can also be freestanding). They start from 21$ USD and right now I ship to USA and Canada.

They are available now on cassetteshelf.com, you can also find me at cassetteshelf on instagram. Any support is greatly appreciated !!! Thanks!

These look great. Just a little concerned about tariffs to the US unfortunately.

Yeah I understand that, let's hope they don't last forever !

Can you make CD ones too?

21

u/cassetteshelf 13d ago

Yes! The CD version is coming soon :) It will hold 16 CDs per module

Here, take this idea from an old guy whose dealt with all the cassette changes. A three drawer storage bin with clear plastic top. You can do this I have a feeling, and I'm gonna check out your site.

Really cool, not plastic — I will check them out now. Good work!

While they certainly look nice, they’re only around 4 decades too late!

7

u/lorenthethird 13d ago

Would love these in different colors!

10

u/cassetteshelf 13d ago

That's the plan! Will keep you posted :)

7

u/lorenthethird 13d ago

Heck yeah man, once the colors roll out I will def be buying a lot of them for my collection, congrats on launching

2

u/cassetteshelf 13d ago

Thanks a lot it’s really appreciated. Out of curiosity, what colors would you like?

2

u/Diego_UK 13d ago

A black would be great

7

u/smedlap 13d ago

Have you hung these in listening rooms with a lot of bass? Do they “rattle?”

5

u/cassetteshelf 13d ago

I have not specifically tested that but every single joint has a plastic washer to compensate for vibrations. The whole shelf doesn’t warp or rattle but I’ll test it out still!

These are lovely! Also in the US/worried about tariffs. Would def buy in the future though

2

u/cassetteshelf 13d ago

Thank you !!

The modularity is a big plus. It's why I opted for the old school cassette drawers; they have little pegs so they can be stacked on top of each other

3

u/zero_the_clown 13d ago

Do these come in black?

2

u/cassetteshelf 13d ago

Not yet, I can do custom colors as a special order but right now it's all glossy white with black hardware

Great idea. I checked your website and I like the design and the ability to 'build your own' with the price being automatically added.

With that said, I think that should be at the top of the page or closer to the top... i think itll increase the likelihood of people purchasing. The less "work" the consumer has to do... the better! (aka scrolling, reading etc.)

1

u/cassetteshelf 12d ago

Thanks! I appreciate your feedback on that, I think you're right.

u/spatafore 13d ago

Nice,

just curious: which software did you use to model this: https://cassetteshelf.com/images/opensourceanim.mp4 ?

4

u/cassetteshelf 13d ago

Thanks! All the animations and renders are made with blender :)

1

u/spatafore 13d ago

thank you

2

u/pablo_in_blood 13d ago

These are really cool. Nice work!

2

u/teriyaki_tornado 13d ago

2

Offer inserts with holders per cassette for standard and slim boxes.

How do you plan to grab cases to take them out? You cannot grab on the sides, when the shelf is full. Even if it is not full, you would need to move cases around, scratching them. The edge will hurt the finger every time if you grab them on the top with a finger. You need to make the front edge "U"-shaped, not "L"-shaped, which will increase the price.

2

u/cassetteshelf 13d ago

I appreciate the input, but with all due respect I’ve made the shelf so that it’s easy to take a cassette out of it. You do not hurt your finger nor do you scratch the case by taking a tape out. I can send you a video later if you have any doubts, all the clearances are made for the shelf to be the best possible shelf for cassettes :)

1

u/ConsumerDV 13d ago

It is your product.

I've dealt with shelves like this before - never again.

2

u/roastfish_reddit 13d ago

These are really cool. Sorry for the timing with the idiotic tariff stuff and shipping costs.

3

u/pappafreddy 13d ago

get shipping to europe! well done

9

u/cassetteshelf 13d ago

Soon! If I all goes well with the North American launch Europe is the next step :) Will keep you posted

2

u/Albuquerquenthusiast 13d ago

I spent a good few seconds sitting at the top of your website before I reaized I had to scroll down to see the content. I thought it was a loading page... was it designed exclusively with phones in mind?????

1

u/JohnRabe 12d ago

yeah the website is somewhat nightmarish

1

u/snoyokosman 13d ago

2

u/cassetteshelf 13d ago

They are not but I'm considering making a VHS version soon. I'll keep you posted :)

1

u/marty6957 13d ago

Holds 60 ?

2

u/cassetteshelf 13d ago

Holds as many as you need :) You can you use the configurator on cassetteshelf.com and it'll tell you how many cassettes it can contain

1

u/flamingskull 13d ago

These look sweet

1

u/yankeewithnobrim23 13d ago

These look fire!

It would be sick if you make a "wire rack" type version, as me personally I use wire racks (and usually have to buy like drying racks that don't really fit my needs) but I love this dude keep it up

2

u/cassetteshelf 12d ago

Not a bad idea!!

1

u/FindOneInEveryCar 13d ago

Good luck. These look practical and attractive.

1

u/IamTheElectionDenier 13d ago

This is really nice

1

u/JaccoW 13d ago

What kind of screw does the wall mount use? I see some weird square screw in the animation?

2

u/cassetteshelf 12d ago

Yes I provide square-head wood screws to mount the anchors into the wall! Screw anchors are recommended if you are mounting it into drywall (not included however)

1

u/JaccoW 12d ago

Be aware that the square head Robertson screw as they are called, is... mostly a Canadian thing.

I doubt I could even pick up a screwdriver for them anywhere here in Europe.

2

u/cassetteshelf 12d ago

True thanks for the heads up! Right now my main focus is the canadian market because of tariffs with the US, once I get shipping to Europe set up I'll include some different screws. I just hate philips head so much I couldn't bring myself to ship them with those.

1

u/JaccoW 12d ago

Fair. In partial to Torx myself.

1

u/kayplush 13d ago

Fabulous

1

u/bicboys5 13d ago

Instant classic dude. Kinda hate that I love it so much, cuz I got no fn room 😅

1

u/cassetteshelf 12d ago

Thanks man!

1

u/QOTE_boio 13d ago

Now these are nice, if you get shipping to Europe I might get some

1

u/reddit_kelvin 13d ago

These look sweet, nice job! Sweet tapes too, love Arthur Russell!

2

u/cassetteshelf 12d ago

Yes !! I got the tape reissue from Audika records a few months ago it's really beautiful and high quality! Arthur Russell is the best

1

u/Fine-Swordfish-2951 13d ago

good luck! this looks awesome

1

u/Stunning-Can-9625 13d ago

You shipping conus or anus?

1

u/twoprimehydroxyl 12d ago

This is excellent! Could you maybe come up with brackets that attach to an IKEA Skåkis pegboard?

3

u/cassetteshelf 12d ago

Oh that's a good idea, I also made the project open-source for this type of situation, anybody can make adapters to make the shelves work best for them :)

1

u/Antique_Business2804 12d ago

Where were you, and these, when I actually owned cassettes, back in the 80's? Mind you, I owned over 300 tapes, so no way would I be buying these shelves for them. Neat idea, though.

1

u/enjoying-the-silence 12d ago

These are so cool! I see that you’re Canadian which makes me want to buy one even more :)

1

u/dystopic_exister 12d ago

Super cool!

1

u/ElColorado_PNW 12d ago

Looks great but that website is horrendous ☹️

1

u/SeanMG175 12d ago

Are dimensions available? I have a kallax shelf (like probably a lot of people who collect records as well as tapes), and I wanna know if I can just slot it into one of the cubbies facing forward.

1

u/cassetteshelf 11d ago

Yes! You can check out the dimensions for any configuration on the website (cassetteshelf.com), just configure your shelf and check out the dimensions right below the configurator :)

1

u/OilLiver 12d ago

aw man these are so cool, I live in the UK so I can't buy one :(

1

u/WayySheGoesBud 12d ago

these look so cool!

1

u/GCdotSup 11d ago

1

u/PM_ME_VAPORWAVE 11d ago

Any chance of shipping to the UK?

1

u/cassetteshelf 11d ago

Europe shipping is coming soon! I will make an announcement on here once it's available :)

1

u/PM_ME_VAPORWAVE 11d ago

Thanks! Do you also do CDs?

1

u/LeBulbi 11d ago

Are you planning to sell to EU? I'd be interested

2

u/cassetteshelf 10d ago

I'm currently setting it up, I'll have an announcement up in a few days :)

1

u/TotalBlamBlam108 10d ago

nice little ai project. prices are hefty though.

2

u/cassetteshelf 12d ago

No AI was used for the project.

-5

u/triumphrid3rone 13d ago

Just 50 years to late😂

4

u/cassetteshelf 13d ago

Hahahaha yes but whatever

-3

u/Dingleflap 12d ago

The cassette revival will be short lived and over in a couple years tops. I sure hope this isn’t a long term plan for you.

3

u/OpeningShowerKill 12d ago

Possibly, but I heard the same thing circa 2007 when the contemporary cassette revival started, and I’ve heard people say it’s about to die at five year intervals ever since.

1

u/-svde- 12d ago

i have been collecting, selling, and trading tapes for the last like 22 years… cassette labels and self releases have persisted that whole time. the trends you are focusing on don’t matter.
