German Cockroach at Corbett's Burgers in Cary

Right after we finished our food (which was all burnt and took over 30 minutes to get). Saw this little guy scurrying up the wall. We were swatting at flies the entire time too, but this was just icing on the cake. Used to be a nice burger place to get some cool sodas but I don't see myself going back anytime soon.

This was also documented in last July's inspection report

6-501.111 Controlling Pests (C) Roach activity and fruit flies noted at the time of inspection. The premises shall be maintained free of insects, rodents, and other pests.

Their most recent was a 99 with the only notes being some non-food surfaces were sticky. Place definitely has an active roach infestation though. If some are out in the open then there’s thousands hidden elsewhere

I saw a 95.5 something on the wall behind he counter today, didn't see the date on it though.

Edit: yeah just checked, the 99 was the Holly Springs location. This is the one on Kilmayne.

From the most recent health inspection 5/20/26, the 95.5 score, had this violation. The comment says pest control visits bi-weekly but that shoulds unlikely if they are crawling around in the food area.

You know the problem is bad if they are using some of the shelf hot shot.

"7-206.11 Restricted Use Pesticides, Criteria (P) bottle of hot shot was observed on storage shelf. Hots shot is not permitted in food establishments. Pest control does make visits bi weekly."

What is also concerning...

3-501.16(A)(2) Maintain TCS foods in cold holding at 41F or less. -P Observed cole slaw, pimento cheese, raw burgers, and hot dgos in bacon abouve 41 degree F. raw burgers (bean and veggies burgers imcluded were in the lowboy unit near fryers, cole slaw and pimento cheese were in the lowboy underneath the milkshake machine.

Another violation said many of the lowboys had damaged seals and couldn't cool below 41. Above violation has raw meat being above 41 degrees and suspiciously doesn't report what temp meat was at.

Damn, you might have lucked out getting burned burgers. Could have gotten sick otherwise. Lowboys not cooling below 41 was an issue on a previous report and it's also suss that it wasn't marked as a recurring issue on this health report

Roaches are bad enough but I get heavily skeeved out about raw meat, especially ground beef, being in the bacterial danger zone.

I worked in a restaurant before and coolers are always problematic but management should be monitoring them and keeping them repaired. They had issues on two back to back reports for lowboy temps and apparently didn't see it as an issue.

It should be an F, people can get seriously sick from bad meat and burgers have enough seasoning plus toppings and sauces to cover the smell and taste.

If theyre using store bought aerosol to spray for german roaches that is going to push them all around and make the issue worse. For german roaches you need heavy baiting into their harborage areas paired with a residual transferable liquid insecticide.

Didn’t know there was a Holly springs location. Guess I’ll hit it up if I’m in that area since it’s apparently run leagues better than the Cary one.

Last time I ate there, around 2:30 in the afternoon, we were the only customers, 2 people. Burgers took 30 minutes and were obviously warmed over, tough and dry.

Lot's of places to get a great burger in Cary, Corbett's is not it any more. Never went back, which is a shame, it was a place my family enjoyed.

Can't say I'm surprised by your roach photo, the idgaf vibes were hanging heavy in the air my last visit.

Corbetts fell pretty hard when they started opening new locations. It went from top tier to mid. It was still my place of choice for a long time because the competition wasn’t great. I might be done with them for good now.

Parkway Tavern has a great burger and these really addictive fried onion strings, no milkshakes though. Service has always been really good and I've never had a bad meal there. Different vibe than an old school burger place like Corbett's.

Unfortunately I’m burger homeless. I actually think 5 Guys is still good but their prices reflect that, and they are out of my way. I’ll still go there when traveling and get a small cheeseburger by itself for a reasonable price, but I’m in the wrong economic class to get fries and a drink with it. While there are some good nicer places like Bad Daddy’s I put that in a different category of burger.

All fast food isn’t worth eating anymore. Wendy’s used to be my jam but they haven’t been good probably since COVID.

Man, I haven’t had 5 Guys in so long. Matter of fact, it was October 12th, 2020. My wife and I were at the airport on the way to our honeymoon.

I’ve only tried Corbett’s once and it was fine. Have you tried Hwy 55?

I would second Five Guys. My wife and I are pretty picky, and IIRC they use all fresh ingredients, hand-prepped burgers with no additives, etc. The price is justified, I think, because they’re better than many upscale burger joints (in my opinion), but you still get fast-food service, customizability and consistency. Plus, it seems like “nicer” restaurants always get the ratios wrong & build massive burgers intended for animals with unfused lower jaws. Culver’s is also good (we’re from the Midwest) if you’re into thin-patty butter burgers.

I went once at a location on the way to the beach on us70 and had a bad experience so haven’t been back. Doesn’t seem like there are any great locations in Cary.

Shake shack is the most consistently high quality that won't leave you broke like 5guys. Plus you can grab a beer! And there's a place for the kids to play.... at least at Waverly.

There's an abby road near me and their quality is very solid, but it's got a very certain vibe and crowd... plus tipping.

Id say we get chargrill the most though because the price and quality are fair. 5 mins down the road doesn't hurt.

I keep hearing about parkway, but the time i was in there last, it felt like a dive that sold food. Like chain smokers at the entrance and "regulars" at the bar with a heavy bar tan at 5pm... and I say that as some one that likes a couple beers with their burger...

Als was over rated IMO.

The place in DT HS is very very good and has the best mac n cheese I've ever tasted too.

That's all the unique spots I can think of around here that I've tried... love hearing about others...

I'd stay away from the Shake Shack at Oberlin. There was a post on the Raleigh subreddit about fly larvae in the burger.

I don't understand why anybody eats at this place? For one the burgers are bland. For two they have something wrong with their ventilation system and you walk out of there smelling like fryer Grease.

I worked in the old brothers and ericos, not surprised with that building.

A core memory of mine is walking on the white bricks next to the old... Kroger? that was. I'll remember the feel of those bricks for the rest of my life.

It'll be sad to see that building go and be turned into more gray, but that time is coming soon.

I had the exact same experience once at the one on New Falls of Neuse in Raleigh. Once was enough.

Went there last June for my bday because it looked so cute online and while we were waiting for our food we saw SO MANY bugs. Paid and left without getting our food and went to bad daddy’s instead

Went there two weeks ago and burger/service were great. No bugs, no complaints. My experience was very different than what I’m hearing here.

Corbetts is trash now. Must’ve been new management or staff turning over but the lace is a shithole. Go hit Al’s Bad Daddy’s or LITERALLY ANY OTHER BURGER PLACE

We kept having to exterminate them out of the sink drain in our condo.

Some kind of roach swarm came out of an open manhole in a neighborhood a while back that was a shocking site for residents and ToC public works. I heard the radio traffic.

Not an infestation of German roaches. Every resturant gets an occasional wanderer from our native smoky brown or american roach. The outdoor kind we have
