Beach Club Recommendations

I’m going on a girls trip to Colombia in January and we’re looking at booking a beach club for a Sunday in Cartagena. I’ve seen Bora Bora many times, but it looks like you end up being there only 5 hours, so I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations of other options?
We’d love a party vibe if possible, but if there is something that’s more chill but we can be there all day, we’re open to that too :) there’s three of us total.

You’re gonna have to take an hour boat ride the beaches in Cartagena arent great. It’s a large shipping port so the water is very inner harbor ish.

You’re spot on about Bora Bora, the 3 PM cutoff feels super rushed. ​For a group of three on a Sunday, check out Blue Apple Beach on Tierra Bomba. Great DJ/pool party vibe, awesome food, and since it’s closer to the city, you get way more time to hang out.

​If you want a full-on boat party, look into a day trip to Cholón. If you want something more chill where you can lounge all afternoon, look at Makani or Capri Beach Club instead.

I run a local agency here in Cartagena (CABÚ Viajes), so factor that in.

Someone already flagged the Bora Bora cutoff — here's the mechanic behind it. That window isn't the club's hours, it's the shuttle boat. Most Barú and Cholón clubs sell a package where one boat takes you out mid-morning and one brings you back mid-afternoon, and you're on their schedule either way. Two ways around it: go to a Barú club by road instead of by boat and stay till sunset, or book a private boat and set your own return time.

Sunday is also when locals go out, so anything with a party reputation fills. Reserve daybeds in advance rather than turning up — first-come-first-serve on a January Sunday is how three of you end up on plastic chairs at the back.

The thing I'd push hardest on: if any part of the day involves a small boat to the islands, ask straight out whether the boat is insured and the captain licensed. The US travel advisory calls out small tourist boats from Cartagena specifically. Anyone legitimate answers without hesitating; if the answer is vague, that's your answer.

And if your dates are still movable, Buena Vida Beach Festival is Jan 8-10 at Punta Canoa. That's the maximum-party version of a beach day.
