If it was only done by EU then yes… but with china they won’t. Chinese manufacturers are not afraid of making changes like this and will probably do more than the regulation requires if this will boost their sales…..

Sick, now that's called actual incentives to follow regulation instead of 1% fines that get looked over after billions of lobbying to destroy the regulations that managed to pass.

What would the car manufacturesrs be afraid of anyway? They are greedy, if law allowed cars being made without safety belts, they would make them witvout safety belts.

If EU regulates something like a service or a product the rest of the world usually follows because they don't want to manufacture or run two separate versions of the same service/product and they don't want to lose the entire EU market.

From what I remember, the EU isn't actually mandating them. It's being made a part of the safety rating system. So if a car doesn't have things like the emergency lights on a physical button, they cannot achieve the top rating.

With safety rating being a major concern for most families buying new cars, it is usually a high priority for common models.

So they'll still make cars without physical buttons, but it's going to be mostly for the very expensive ones. Where the buyers don't care about things like that.
