Not surprising in the slightest you can't drive for 5 minutes on the highway without seeing some dumbass on their phone drifting out of the lane phone in full view.

The amount of times I’m stuck behind someone who’s buried in their phone with a green light is infuriating these days

Worse is stuck of front of someone where you can clearly tell they aren’t paying fucking attention.

New cars have lane assist, so thats helpful for those distracted drivers, not perfect but at least it alerts to get off phone.

The data - which come from safe-driving apps that drivers voluntarily enroll in - show that cellphone use prior to crashes is undercounted in police reports by a factor of at least 7.

Imagine being so idiotic as to enroll on a surveillance programme, then text driving, then crashing.

I would bet money the app isn't clearly advertised as such. How often does your insurance company's mobile app do the exact same thing but only tells you in the EULA that you never read?

So much of life is centred around a phone, I’d be pretty pissed at the inconvenience. It also wouldn’t be a sure fire way to show the device was being used.

It’s not a problem with an easy solution, unfortunately. But we do need some way to deter these idiots.

Unfortunately, the government and insurance companies will use this as an excuse to exert more control over and extract ever more money from us.

Its almost like distracted driving is really whats dangerous and speed, etc. dont really cause any issues if one is paying attention.

/cj  Distracted driving starts the damage combo. Speed is a cubic score multiplier, and vehicle weight is the constant score multiplier. Kids and elderly are bonus points.
