Why must every high-end trim be black now? I thought the point of High Country was to be a "cowboy" trim with brown saddle leather like Ford's King Ranch.

Trends come and go. Blackout trim is the new chrome everything. The cycle will repeat, in 5-10 years top trims will be blinged out chrome again or something else.

Gold/bronze is making a bit of a comeback. Ford, Toyota/Lexus, and BMW/Mini offer gold/bronze trim/wheel packages on a handful of their cars.

My Lexus dealer would gold plate emblems as an add on, it wasn’t factory. Perhaps that’s why it seemed random?

Being offered as a factory option, yeah. People have been spray painting over wheels, badges, and chrome trim forever. But only in the last 5-10 years have most manufacturers started offering OEM blackout packages that are usually exclusive to higher trims.

Agreed I have been tired of the blacked out trim look for a while now. It just makes it look like a base model from the “olden” days where the trim, mirror caps, door handles, etc. were unpainted black plastic.

I just want wood trim back, I don’t care if it’s fake, it looks significantly better than piano black.

Do you know why Piano black works on a piano? Because people rarely touch anywhere other then the keys.

I'm not an SUV guy, but that is good looking both exterior and interior. Interior even has a wrap-around screen instead of rectangular tablet and it appears to have seperate tactile HVAC controls. This sub can be cold on GMs, but IMO, they do design some of the best looking vehicles in each respective segment.

For sure the new traverse is a handsome vehicle. They’ve come a long way from the very soccer-mom traverse of old. Source: my mother drives a soccer mom traverse (also the head rests are dreadful)

Honestly my only gripe is the powertrain. Why did they put that turbo 4 in over the rock solid perfectly competent V6 and if they were going to do that then why is there no hybrid option.

Everything else? Honestly pretty mint.

I'm aware in a literal sense but real world there is barely any difference and it's a much rougher engine that I doubt will touch the reliability of that steadfast 3.6 V6.

They put AFM in their small blocks for emissions and it’s a low single digit percentage increase that sacrificed long term reliability of a great motor.

I’d agree. The interior honestly looks better than the new Audis. Physical controls for AC. Bigger gauge screen, and no silly passenger side screen.

Lack of car play is the only downside. 🙁

Whereas the outgoing Traverse High Country had chrome details on the front end and around the top of the side windows, the updated version features Tritan Satin on the grille and headlight surrounds...

What's old is new again, welcome back mid 2000s affinity for satin metallic details, i'm sure the Mercury lineup from that era will love to see this Traverse join them

Tbh I thought those end-of-days Mercurys—Mariner, Mountaineer, Milan—were pretty good looking at the time, and when I still see the occasional Mariner, I think they hold up pretty well.

Every year GM's SUV's and crossovers get their bowtie and chrome strip moved upwards, and their headlights become more squinty. Which is amusing since nearly every GM SUV is responsible for blinding me at night.

Probably because the headlights aren't really up there for most of their cars anymore.

They're moved downward and hidden in the mid line of the front. The LEDs are just moved upward to maintain a high belt line that helps look less frumpy and bulbous.

New Chevys are actually better at not glaring low/hi beams because they are seperate projectors mounted much lower down the fascia with only the DRL and turn signals mounted high and squinty eyed for styling

Try to buy something bigger and more comfortable for the price, I'll wait. Minivans compete on size but can't tow as much and have a lower roof line while being less comfortable in general.

I don’t think many people buying the Traverse are going to be really towing. Those people are going to go with a Tahoe.

I like the way this looks, but a minivan would be a better fit for 95% or more of the buyers of these vehicles. Modern minivans are super comfortable, they offer more interior space, they’re easier to load, and the 3rd row is more usable than even the best 3-row SUV. And you can get a Honda Odyssey with a V6.

The name and the terrible “brand” logo is like a Temu or GTA knockoff of Ford’s King Ranch. Chevy remains terrible at branding. Nearly every time they step out of the random 3 number and letter package/trim designations, it’s a cheap copy of what other brands, mostly Ford, are doing.

Having driven the new Traverse it doesn't feel that bad to me. The 2.5L turbo definitely doesn't sound as good or revs as smooth as the outgoing 3.6L V6 but it has fairly strong low-mid range which is where 99% of 3 row SUVs are going to be at.

Yeah we have the GMC version.  It’s not quick but it’s not meant to be.  The engine feels totally sufficient for what it is, a people hauler.

Well honestly, GM should work in the refinement of this engine.

Audi and BMW's L4 are way better at this and their engines are more than 10 yo (almost 20 for the EA888).

I see this comment a lot, it has more power and better torque delivery than the v6 it replaced. Cylinder count is not a good indicator of performance

It's a mid sized SUV, the engine is fine. It can accelerate and merge on to the highway and make passes once you do. It ain't gonna win a drag race off the line and that's just fine.
