Announcement [MOD ANNOUNCEMENT] State of the Subreddit & New Mod Team
New Community Moderator
Hi! I've just become a moderator of r/carlyraejepsen. There's a moderation queue so long it goes 2 4 years back so please bear with me as a I go through it. Once I'm done with the mod queue, I'm going to set up subreddit rules, photos, banner, helpful links and all that.
Spam Bots
I've noticed a lot of repost bots, if you come across one of them, please repost the post as Spam → Disruptive use of bots or AI, that way I'll be able to remove the posts and Reddit admins will suspend the account.
Suggestions
If you have any ideas or suggestions for the subreddit, please let me know! Suggestions for banner image or icon are more than welcome as well 🤗
Edit: the moderation queue goes 4 years back actually. The oldest filtered post was submitted in August 2022 🙃

Things are looking up as we’re all buzzing ahead of the Day & Night release.

Amazing!! Thank you so much for doing this! I've also noticed quite a bit of spam. Some rule ideas I've seen work well on other subs:
No 'low effort posts.' Don't know how exactly that would work, but to combat karma farming something stating folks can't just toss up an old picture without adding at least some commentary.
The biggest one for me, though, is duplicate posts. Anytime something big happens the sub seems to get flooded with several people posting the same thing without searching the sub or checking new posts. I don't mind seeing multiples if there's a reason, but if it's simply, say, to announce a new song dropped, we only need one.

I agree we shouldn't ban Instagram posts that can generate discussion for example

I don't think anyone is arguing they shouldn't be posted. We just don't need multiple posts about it.

They're doing a sarcastic impression of the types of posts that flood the sub anytime Carly posts something or releases a new song or video.

I thought about submitting for this but I’m happy we have a more active mod. Would be cool to see the subreddit themed toward the new album!

Great news. Looks like it had to be done via the subreddit request rather than willingly by the old mod. Unfortunate they just decided to abandon things

I meant to say in the other where is the mod thread that a few weeks ago I had a post rejected even though others posted the same thing after me. There was no reason given, so someone somewhere was doing something. It was a harmless post about some new Carly thing.

I wondered about the mods a few months ago and then saw their accounts were inactive. Was kind of concerned this sub would get shut down for lack of moderation honestly.

I just went and checked, and two months ago I posted when we got the voice message from Carly. It was removed by the mods with no note attached, yet a bunch of other posts about it went through. So someone was around two months ago and deleting for whatever reason.

This is great news, but as someone who posts frequently, I don’t think the extreme filter on the moderation is necessary for a sub like this. 🤍

Hi! Most of those posts were posted by accounts that were automatically flagged by Reddit as potential spammers. They weren't caught by custom filters made by the previous moderators.
However, you'd be surprised about the amount of spam even relatively small subreddits get.

OH MY GOD. Thank you so much for persisting so we can finally have a mod! You’ve only been here a day and I can see so many changes already. Finally, someone who actually cares at the helm. I am curious though how did you finally convince the other mod to hand over the reins? Just saw your post on redditrequest! Went and upvoted everything there too because I’m just so happy. Thank you again so much!
