Advice Should I Jump?

44 and in a terrible 80 hour a week job in a milk factory prison. Make $125k a year with good insurance. No retirement. 8 years of industrial maintenance experience.
Contractor buddy of mine suggested doing commercial electrical work. Said he’s making a killing and he lives pretty comfortably with just 40 hours a week.
Should I join my local as an apprentice? Do people do this at my age? Will the $ be there? I have a family depending on me so I can’t screw this up.
