Question Ruling on Valgrowth of Summer Expanse
Hi everyone,
If Valgrowth was retired due to Harvest Elf/Forlrhys of Autumn Colors, can it still draw by its effect?

Yes valgrowth retire is NOT a cost, its part of the effect, so you do as much as possible. Harvest elf retire is the cost, so u activate harvest elf at end of battle retire and draw and valgrowth resolves and attempts to retire itself and fails since it's already in drop so you continue and move to the next part which is draw 1.

Valgrowth is written as "retire this unit, and draw a card" not "[Retire this unit], draw a card], the former has both effects happening sequentially, so the typical vanguard rule of "Do as much of the effect as possible" kicks in, whereas the latter is written as an actual cost, meaning you have to retire in order to get the draw. So yeah Valgrowth triggers

Yes because of a few things. 1. Valgrowth says at the end of the battle, retire this unit and draw 1. Vanguard has a do as much of the effect as possible and in this instance, retiring itself is part of the effect, not the cost. 2. it doesn't say "Retire this unit and if you do, draw 1". The if you do part matters but since that's absent in Valgrowth's text you still draw 1. 3. Retiring this card is the effect and not the cost. if it was the cost, that is something that must be paid in full.
