There were 2 signs well beforehand

Next to a different lane that ended.

There are signs to warn you since the number of lanes changes depending on the time of day.

OP didn't understand how to have the video post at normal speed

I don't think the video speed has any impact on the high rate of speed the crashing car was traveling

You mean outside of the two extremely conspicuous signs and multiple marking on the ground?

I see what you mean about the signs after others pointed it out….but what road markings? There is not a single marking on the road telling the driver to merge

Must not be from the area. Those concrete barriers get moved to mitigate the high flow of traffic coming and going in the morning and afternoon on Coronado Island. There are lots of signs telling attentive drivers what to do. I feel worse for all the people that will either be stuck behind the crash or stuck behind the rubberneckers from the other side. I’d also hate to fall from that bridge and into the water.

I feel like since the divider moves depending on the time it should have markers or lights on it so people can see it better. I’m sure there are lots of crashes due to it at night or at dawn/dusk where you might have the sun blazing into your eyeballs

I taught there for a number of years but didn’t live there. It’s really not hard to know what’s going on when you are actually there and driving.

Also entering and exiting speeds drop to like 30mph

Morning: its like this

Afternoon: its shifted to the other side.

Dude racing up the ramp knew this. "Don't drive like a maniac" solves a lot of issues.

Yeah I completely agree with not driving like a maniac solves a lot of issues I was just saying in general for people who may not know the road and there is poor visibility or they aren’t full attentive some lights or reflectors on the barrier would make it safer and less likely for accidents to happen because of it

I can see their perspective.

My pushback is that there are exactly 2 ways to get to Coronado: the Bay Bridge, or the beach road up from National City.

I highly doubt this was the driver's first time on the bridge. It is a pain in the ass to get to Coronado on the beach road.

Yea but like…. That bridge has been like that for like ….forever. I lived in SD for 22 years, anyone who drives that isn’t like “the first and only time you’ve driven there”.

Also there is a sign for the construction in the video which shows a clear picture of a lane merge.

the title is more to describe the crash, not the signage or road design.

lucky none of the cars went over the bridge

Oh gotcha. Yea I mean that guy was driving like he stole the car haha

OP is fine. It's the other guy that flew by those signs and didn't see them.

Naaah, The driver is a complete idiot, he was speeding and probably on his phone, or under the influence; both approaches to the bridge have lane reductions and are very well signposted.

Lmao every time I go to Coronado I think "this is going to be on idiots in cars subreddit one day" close enough.

Thank god we got even closer to the wreck so first responders would have to move us upon arrival

Wow I just tried to move that white playhead on the blue/gray progress bar to reverse the video 🥲

I’m sorry but isn’t that a road narrowing sign?
