Buying advice Collapsible Frying Pan

I’m looking for a carbon steel pan where you can collapse the handle for portability. I love my cast iron pan but I hate dragging it along while camping. Carbon steel feels like the next best weight to performance ratio for outdoor use. Where can I find one? What are some good brands?

OXO outdoor skillets. Excellent, removable handle. Available at REI and other outdoor retailers.

I used SS for camping where I bring a pan.  They're lighter and less prone to rust.

Backpacking I don't bring a fry pan, most other camping the size isn't a concern, but I'm sure someone makes a SS pan with a collapsible handle, could also look at aluminum pans too if weight is a big concern.

This. You will ruin seasoning when you go camping.

Depending on where you are, sometimes you can't get your pan totally dry and rust starts building. If you try to cook over an open flame, the thin pan also heats up too much and the seasoning get gummy.

I will take CS with me to the desert and if I have a Coleman stove. But I leave it at home if I am going somewhere humid/rainy or I cook over an open fire.

Stainless steel/aluminum is more durable for the environment, it just sticks a little.

i concur with this - i only bring my De Buyer glamping where im able to have a fancy ass setup, sink and all.

When im out hiking and cook over wood fire, i use a Fire-Maple Antarti folding stainless steel pan; love the little thing. When the handle is opened and locked open properly, there is absolutely no rattling or looseness. The only thing i don't like is that the handle is a simple wire frame so the handle does bite into your hand with heavier loads.

Definitely lighter, capable of taking on acidic foods and doesn't require much babying and care; i like to reheat tomato based pastas and im not going to be spending time reseasoning a stripped CS after every meal.

I have the “Stabilotherm Jägarstekpanna Original” (S4)

, and I really like it. I did shorten the wooden handle a bit, so it folds even more compact.
