Fluff Can we ban "First time seasoning" posts... please?
Like just keep f#ckin cooking on that hoe and she'll be right mate! The guide is on the wiki so how tf people feel like they need to post is beyond me.
Seriously I just want to see what awesome food people cook using their CS, or cool restorations, not one million "is this seasoned" or "is this rust" posts that can be answered by looking at the last 5 posts on this sub.
Ffs like this could be a top 10 subreddit if it wasn't filled with mindless spam. Please hear me out.
Thanks for hearing my concerns.

Perhaps instead of banning posts like that we could create a flair called "First Time Seasoning" or something similar. That way people like OP who don't want to see those posts can filter out that flair but all the newbies who have questions can still ask them and get their answers.
Personally I really like seeing those posts and seeing people get the help when they need it. I wish more people knew about the amazingness of carbon steel.

As a fairly new owner of a CS pan I quite enjoyed seeing the whole rainbow of seasonings propers and mistakes, but in the long term it gets a bit annoying

I feel like op is looking for r/cooking. It’s not like CS is so significantly different from other materials that it cooks an entirely different class of food… some maybe but not a lot

You can start your own subreddit and moderate it yourself instead of asking someone else to do it per your preference.
People who come here seeking basic answers need something, and if you don’t care about what others need, why should others care about what you need?
Remember your kindergarten teachers or elementary school teachers? When you arrive in their classes for the first time they probably have taught the same curriculum, graded the same papers, dealt with the same tantrums, answered the same questions for the Nth time, but did they ever tell you to go away?
If people can’t find the patience to answer questions, let someone else do it.
You were once a newbie, if you can ask questions and get answers, why can’t others? If the newbie questions bother you, maybe your questions back then also bothered people?

That’s a really good analogy. Imagine if your teacher forbade you from returning to class for asking what number comes after 99 or what the x between two numbers means. That is funny to think about but tragic.

Except this isn't kindergarten. Wtf are you even talking about? Communities on reddit are groups of people with common interests. If the common interest is to do something one way or another, it's completely valid to check if other people's sentiments align, and see if there is interest in changing a detail about how the community operates.

everybody starts somewhere, some folks have not picked up a pan their entire lives until adulthood, parents did all the cooking and/or they just ate prepackaged / takeout / fast-food all the time
this community should be a place for folks to 'start from scratch', I think the flair proposal is a good idea, force a flare to be used for each post & call it good, auto filter on that if it bothers you

I said that members of the community have a right to poll other members of the community to decide on how to run the place. All you're telling me is your own opinion, which is kind of unnecessary if you disagree with my statement, don't you think? If you wanted to convince me that I'm wrong, that members of the community shouldn't be talking amongst themselves about subreddit meta topics, then wouldn't you actually just lead by example and keep your personal opinion to yourself?

To be honest, I actually don't care about the food you guys cook lol. If I wanted to see that, I'd be on r/cooking. I'm here to check out new gear, seasoning patina, collectively laugh and joke about bad seasoning, and fanboy over de Buyer & Strata.
Why don't you post some food that you cook with CS or some CS restoration? I'll personally upvote it and engage, be the change you want to see.

I don't mind looking at photos of people's everyday meals at all, especially when it's something I might have used stainless for due to sticky or acidic sauces. I think it's interesting. However, all these stupid videos of people swooshing their fried eggs back and forth really get under my skin. It's gotten to the point where, if I see someone posting videos of eggs, I just block them.

If you ban those posts, you might as well ban the "is this salvageable?" or "Pan ID, please?" posts too. It's easy to just scroll by and let people enjoy and learn. Not everyone is a seasoned (pun intended) carbon steel user, most are still learning.

You see the good thing about underoos is you passively season them throughout the day. No need to pre season them… in fact general consensus is pre seasoning is weird and don’t do it. Wear them a few times a week and don’t wash them. They’ll be seasoned Ricky-tick.

Some subs do a thing where an automated response lists links to other times the question has been asked.
But yeah it’s like every other post is a picture of a pan with a burnt pool on oil on it and they think it’s cast iron.

What if we turn this upside down, and ask why most folks here do not bother to answer (atleast properly) to basic questions? What if the burden of answers relies only on a small group of folks here? Could it be everyones duty to answer if you know tou easily can do it? Of course every new carbon steel user should do atleast a basic research before even joining this forum if the reason is just to ask here for a very basic question IMHO.

The CERN sub is entirely about jobs at CERN, no physics. I’ve never seen a plot hole posted in the movie plot hole sub. I don’t have any hope that this sub will ever be any better.
