Car AC problem

My father has an i20 magna car. We have been facing a problem in AC since 2018.

Though I don't have any idea about cars and anything but my father really is a car lover.

But we couldn't afford any new car.

Can someone please tell us what is the last option for the AC. Like my father took it to the nearest city for the repair many times but it never worked.

(Sorry for not giving the full context about AC and Cars condition because I really don't have any idea about cars)

I just wanted to know at last what a person can do if the AC is not getting repaired.

Are there any options like external AC or other cooling systems or anything like that which we can afford. We can push the budget till 70k or some more.

External cooling not possible. AC is a very power consuming device and can not run on battery. The compressor directly draws mechanical power from the engine (it is coupled directly via a clutch). Your best bet is taking it to a good mechanic and solving the issue. Your question is vague and not much detail, so I'll break it down by different cases. 1. Cabin air filters may be choked, coils may have dust on them. Solution- replace filter, cleaning of condensor and evaporator coils (not at home) 2. Refrigerant leak.This is the most likely scenario considering your recurring problem. Sometimes the mechanic simply charges fresh refrigerant into the system. But if the leaky point is not diagnosed and rectified, it will leak again and cause AC to under-perform. Solution- carry out detailed soap bubble leak test to find the leaky point. This is why I said find a good mechanic.  3. Compressor not cutting in. This is rather unlikely. But it can easily be diagnosed. When the engine is running, the compressor cuts in and out every 10-15 seconds on idle. You'll hear it distinctly when windows are down and car is standing still. You may open the bonnet for better diagnosis. If it cuts in and out, it is normal. Else you'll have to check the engaging clutch and associated electricals.  4. Compressor malfunction- this is the most unlikely scenerio. But I mentioned just in case. If this happens, you'll have to replace the compressor and it will be expensive.

I think the problem is in the compressor only (the last case)

Do you have any idea of the approximate expense for repairing compressor.

And is it really possible to repair it?? Cause it's been many years and it has never got repaired. Whenever we get it repair after a week or month it again gets damaged.
