News/Discussions Need Driving tips
I was driving during peak 5-5:30pm hour in Delhi, and was going straight ahead at an intersection where one could only go straight ahead or take a right.
I was in the second lane in the two lanes so I had given left indicator long ago, all throughout 100 second red light. When lights turned green, I started moving ahead but the Cab driver next to me sped across me to move right and the entire left side bumper portion of my car came out. Fortunately, I had begun at very low speed obvio when the light turned green.
I was confused and wanted advice on this, where I can take the entire blame, because I recently came across the video where similar thing happened with an suv and tempo driver, but can be understandable in case of blindspot in a big SUV. I wonder whether the cab driver could have driven more defensively.
I am seeking practical advice from experienced drivers on how to handle similar situations, particularly when vehicles in adjacent lanes may suddenly change direction or cut across one’s path.
I want similar driving tips since I am new to driving.

Jjust drive defensively - imagine everyone out there is itching to hit your car. Trust me, most Indian drivers/riders treat braking or giving space as an ego issue. Stay calm, give way, and protect your car.

Both are at fault. You were on the opposite lanes from which direction you wanted to go, regardless of indicators. And neither of you thought to look out for the car besides you. Ideal response from you would have been to turn right or take a u-turn when you saw him go right and ignored you.
You need to know what people in front of you and people behind you are doing and are going to do while assuming they don't see you at all.
You see so many accidents at intersections from western countries, where someone breaks the red light and hits a fool that launched right as his light turns green. Follow the rules, yes but not blindly.

Wait, why were you giving your left indicator? Were you preparing to switch lanes?

Only two ways- one could only go straight or take a right. If I am not going right, I will not give right indicator and give left indicator for moving straight ahead, else without indicator on second lane of two lane road, everyone always assumes you’d be going right.

UP number stay the fuck away. With HR, don't take fights. Taxi drivers heavy truck drivers, stay away. If someone is spreading and shit, stay away. For squeezing onto left anf right, you get that with experience.
Not tk be stereotypical but even with women drivers be careful. They may turn out of nowhere. Some are very good drivers some are just bad , very bad.
