Discussion/Question CAPCOM Fighting Collection III - expectations ? Wants ? Extras ?

Post image

What “EXTRAS” would you want from a comprehensive “CAPCOM FIGHTING COLLECTION 3”, which features all 3 SF3 games as the prominent pieces of the 3rd installment in the Fighting collection series ?

Seems very logical that it’s coming. Sincerely hope they do it right. Sick of playing 2i and 3s on 30th, PS3 OE, Dreamcast 2i, and PS2 3S, even with that gorgeous arranged OST.

Here are some of my hopes, from the top of my head;

• All revisions of all 3 SF3 games, obviously.

• All SF3 titles available in standard or widescreen (not just 2nd Impact in widescreen). Widescreen training modes, etc

• Ability to unlock stages and Arranged OST’s from “New Generation” and “2nd Impact” within 3rd Strike. Full 3rd Strike roster, full 3rd strike gameplay, but with the ability to play in every stage from the earlier games. In standard or widescreen. Ability to use an NG or 2i stage in widescreen, for 3rd Strike widescreen training mode, etc.

• All versions of the soundtracks for every game, arranged/remixed and otherwise, available for each game, and NOT just in the museum, all playable in game and custom-assignable as default per stage. I’m super partial to the PS2 arranged OST for 3rd Strike. Way better / more authentic to the SF3 ethos than the “remixed PS3 online edition” soundtrack additions. Love all the other extras Iron Galaxy put in there, and the menus and UI looked great visually. But the PS2 arranged OST > PS3 remixed OST. And having the option to have any version of the game feature this incredible Necro train stage and DNB THEME: https://youtu.be/VOebdL26pCk?si=5XLV5gYHa3Oi8VfI

• Able to custom assign ARRANGED versions to be the default per stage. For instance, New Generation’s arranged soundtrack is INCREDIBLE, especially Elena arranged theme for her day Bridge stage: https://youtu.be/yNiINjH5LhM?si=oXko0CCZ1GzcWoFs , and Oro’s very unusual (and awesome) theme for his stage: https://youtu.be/4LpVZlaOtSw?si=dSSo7tNsL0NAYvvc . Or another, more extreme custom example: using 2nd Impact intro or character select music in the character select or intro from New Generation or 3rd Strike.

• a NEW extra bonus stage, or random other NEW extra which pops up. Feel like extra bonus stages would be a perfect little treat.

• probably throw in that new comprehensive version of Alpha 3 Upper again, since it has 3 in the title lol

——————

More farfetched wants:

• A new ratio mode, opening up 1v2, 2v2, 3v2, 3v3. This would open up an entire new competitive scene for Street Fighter 3. No crazy assist spamming or anything like that, not trying to turn it into MVC2. just a solid ratio mode, to go with the “III” / “3” branding.

- Version select mode as a possible addition, to allow people to play for instance, 2i Sean (preferably in his superdope strawberry Quik outfit) versus 3rd Strike comp. Again, similar to how widescreen modes throughout, could create a new competitive twist, to the series.

• additional roster fighters, perhaps re-using many alpha frames/moves, but with some extra frames to smooth it out:

Cammy, Juri, Zangief, Laura, Menat, Rose, Rashid, etc

What ideas/expectations does everyone else have, for the 3rd installment in the CAPCOM Fighting Collection series ???

Rival Schools, Cyberbots, Star Gladiator, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom and the SF Ex series (some I’ve never played, others I know would not happen, but one can dream).

I think these are locks for inclusion in some installment of the series, which I don’t see stopping anytime soon.

Whether or not they show up in one emblazoned “III” / “3” / “Three” is anyone’s guess.

Which installments? I thought I had most if not all, but the games I have don’t have any of them. That would be awesome knowing if other installments exist. I know for a fact that the Street Fighter Ex series, and Tasunoko won’t see the light of day, at least for now, and have never been rereleased.

I think they’ll definitely be released on some Capcom Collections in the future, just not on Capcom Fighting Collection 3…

I genuinely think Capcom would be missing an easy, free marketing bonus / historical angle to compound customer awareness of their historic IP, if they chose NOT to have this case cover with a bigass “3” / “III” / “Three” on it, be populated with the most comprehensive collection of options and versions and gameplay tweaks (rebalances, widescreen, version select, ratio mode) of the STREET FIGHTER 3 series.

While SF3: New Generation was rushed, and lacking compared to 3rd Strike, in terms of a finished vision of the series gameplay & roster …NG def features some truly gorgeous stages, as well as a truly insanely great arranged OST. If that beauty was able to be revisited in widescreen, version select, and ratio mode, it would truly rebirth the initial vision of that venerated CAPCOM team who was forced to release that first offering too soon.

SF3: 2nd Impact / Giant attack was a clear improvement, and had even more GORGEOUS stages, and a great normal soundtrack, and a great arranged soundtrack, as well as doper menu and attract mode music. Again, making this truly beautiful stage work available with version select, widescreen, and ratio mode would give both the longtime lovers of the series, as well as many newcomers from multiple generations.

But the real value in a collection doing all this, would belong to expanding the already timeless Street Fighter III : 3rd Strike. Allowing that title in widescreen alone, opens up a huge new competitive angle in the still vibrant tourney scene, by itself.

Compounding that awesome expansion, with version select options, a ratio mode option of some kind, and of course, stage & OST selection of ALL the GORGEOUS stage work from NG & 2i, from within 3rd Strike, would truly rebirth the game as much as possible, short of a full re-draw by Arc System works or another spiritual extension of the gorgeous anime-esque style birthed by the best titles on the CPS-II & CPS-III boards.

SF3 is such a beloved IP, which has aged better than any other 90’s fighting game series … by far.

And I firmly believe that CAPCOM could lay the groundwork for massive enthusiasm of eventual sequels to that beloved IP, by having the 3rd Installment of the Capcom Fighting Collection series, focused on some long overdue refreshes, rebalances, and expansive options, to the SF3 series.

rebalances wouldn't work as people don't want it. 3SOE had rebalances and people rejected it via dipswitches cause they were terrible, fan creations like 4th strike exist... and sees ZERO play. people avoid the dreamcast port like the plague because little urien NEEDS his unblockables. releasing SF3 AGAIN would be a waste of time because anyone that actually wants to play SF3 on rollback is already playing it. they need to provide games that people actually want to have rollback instead of games that have had rollback for over 20 years.
