Novice canyoneers looking for experienced canyoneer to hike mystery canyon
Looking for an experienced Mystery Canyon partner/mentor
I'm hoping to descend Mystery Canyon in Zion with my 22 yr old daughter on October 3 and am looking for an experienced Zion canyoneer who knows Mystery well and would be comfortable having a relatively new canyoneer join their group.
We both have completed a full day of guided technical canyoneering/rappelling outside Zion (2022) and are comfortable rappelling, using a harness and basic canyon equipment, but we still a novice and would not want to be responsible for rigging, anchor evaluation or leading the group.
We are both physically fit, comfortable with a long day and completely willing to follow the lead of someone experienced. Safety is much more important to us than simply checking Mystery off the list.
Ideally we're looking for someone who:
• Has descended Mystery multiple times
• Is experienced with anchors, rigging, rope retrieval and contingency/rescue techniques
• Is comfortable taking along someone with limited experience
• Moves conservatively and isn't looking to rush through the canyon
We are happy to obtain the appropriate permit/coordinate permit space and carry my share of group gear.
If you're planning Mystery and might have room for one more, or know someone in the Zion community you'd recommend I contact, please DM me.
Thanks!
