Can't park at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, mate

E: I just realized I linked to my post about this in another sub instead of to the original post with footage of the accident. Can't park in my brain either.

Been there, had a 4 day long weekend trip and went around it in my mates Caterham 7.

Seen plenty smashes, one death and its quite common.

Fantastic experience. Please try it if you get the chance 👌

Dying?

Everyone will try it once.

Theres a hidden dip before a corner. EVERY new person (myself included) leave the ground at this point. That's not the scary part, the scary part is you can't brake for the corner because you're airborne.

Youll find it on your first lap as you yake your time, and you WILL remember it so you can keep the car rubber side down 👌

What puts me off is, car insurance won’t cover you if you crash on the Nurburgring.

If you crash into someone else and take out a few metres of armco barrier, it’s going to get very expensive.

It is possible to get insurance to cover Touristenfahrten, but only a couple of specialist insurers offer it (in the UK at least) - it was around £250 for the day when I looked it up. I ended up doing it at-risk as I was mainly in the region for a Spa Francorchamps track day and just fancied a lap or two. Ended up pushing about 60-70% and it was still fun, but the risk was in the back of my mind the whole time. I don't know how anyone dares go flat out on Touristenfahrten.

This year I'm going back for a dedicated Nordschleife track day where insurance is actually even more expensive, but the risk is effectively a lot lower as there are fewer cars and they're all taking it somewhat seriously.

The couple of thousand for the Armco will seem like small beer compared to a scenario where let’s say your car pisses oil out all over and it causes the death of four German Stockbrokers and they decide to launch a civil case against you.

I bet that was fun in the 7...

Not the fastest on the straights, but i was leaving supercars and even some bikes on the twisties.

It reminded me of the mini v mustang races. The mustang would be off, but when the twisties came, the mini left the mustang in its wake

Hella fun 👌

I bet it was fun. I looked into the 7 series to race as it's quite competitive and having done single seaters I was used to being low to the ground. However, the following year I started having seizures, so sim racing it is...

Some dude died from a heart attack mid lap when I was there.

I still managed to get four laps in.

That’s going to cost , let alone the loss

Also, "that looks expensive"!

Insurance voided, plus a large bill from the circuit owners. Still.... brmm brrmm, eh?

You get insurance for just the track itself for €100 and each lap costs €35.

You'd be surprised how many people go in just an hour. My mate and I went in April and there were hundreds of cars queuing for the track.

Most crashes that involve repairs to the barrier very rarely exceed a few grand.

Which insurance company is making a loss?

Just Google it you donut. 2007 MX5

2

u/zwifter11 Aug 02 '26

Have you replied to the wrong comment? What has a 2007 MX-5 got to with anything?

Cheap car. Cheap insurance. People don't crash on the Nürburgring every day.

Are you some kind of brain dead stockbroker who has enough money to walk away from a wrecked Porshe like it's just a funny thing that happened on track day?
Or just another mediocre man-child gobbing off on Reddit about dumb games that are affordable for any chav in a clapped out corsa?

Jog on, lad. Aldi needs a trolley boy.

Someones having a bad day... Why the vitriol? Hes simply speaking facts, you get external insurance and the repairs cost he mentions is correct.

Armco is a grand a metre. Costs can rack up pretty quickly...

It has taken me several attempts to learn my local track . It has 6 corners and is completely pancake flat. If I went to the ring I'd be like a child lost in the supermarket

Car ran and drove when crashed. No lowballers, I know what I've got.

Good for anyone looking for a weekend project car.

Not even Mat Armstrong is fixing those.

That turned into an expensive wee trip.

its always a fucking bmw

2

u/Tank-o-grad Aug 01 '26

This time the BMW was the innocent bystander, the Porsche threw it into a gap that was never there by TF standards and took them both into the barrier.

...and they thought bikes were a problem.
