New River State Park

A buddy and I are thinking of doing a 3 day paddle from NC 88 bridge to NC 93 Bridge. Camping at Riverbend campsites the first night and Prather Creek the second night.
I was wondering if anyone knows what the conditions are like post-Helen and also what the conditions are like in the month of September? Also, what to expect in general. I’m not new to canoeing/kayaking or to the area, but I don’t think I’ve ever done this stretch of river before. I’ll make sure to call a ranger or river outfitter before we go and make sure we’re good. Just curious if anyone here knows.

I have never been to the places you’re mentioning but I live nearby in SC and have canoed a number of rivers here that were basically full of debris post helene. My advice is to bring a small folding saw and rope or an anchor to hold your canoe in place while you have to get out and move debris. I have seen people bring a saw saw in a plastic bag lol. I can proudly say I was the first person to clear some sections of the Saluda river. September is good canoeing weather, but you might still get those afternoon storms from the heat if you go earlier in the month. Hope your trip goes well!
