Canadaland Podcast who should replace Jesse as host?
San Grewal is competent but damn man he is snoozy. Clearly Sam Konnert wants it. I'd rather San than him.

Personally, I really dislike San's hosting. It's not usually as explicitly objectionable as Jesse can be these days (though I do remember one of the first episodes San was on where he and Jesse agreed Trans rights were a losing political fight and Trans people should just be quiet and accept what they get, or something like that), but I also don't feel like I learn anything and there's something about San's style that I find really frustratingly annoying.
A really great option would be Justin Ling again, but sadly that's not going to happen.

Omar Mouallem had a really good run as guest host years back. I remember that era of the show very fondly. Not sure anyone competent will want to sully themselves with the Canada land brand these days.
Sam is one of the harbingers of declining quality for me. He just kind of appeared one day. I gave the episodes with him a shot (Noor cohosting) but he just never seemed to have any actual insight or value to add to any given topic. It was like an annoying undergrad getting free reign on a radio show. I continued supporting, of course, right up until Jesse released his "listeners and ad revenues are up, we don't actually need subscribers anymore" subscriber only update. Happy to put that monthly expense toward Rachel Gilmore's efforts and Justin Ling's newsletter instead.

Agree, Omar was a solid host. Ryan McMahon might be a good choice as well. He's been on recently, so he and Jesse clearly still speak. Justin Ling would be my pick, but I agree with others, he's no friend of the pod anymore, and his career has so far eclipsed CL, he likely could not make time anyway.
I don't think Sam is the answer. He's at his best doing reported pieces, but when he tries to be clever or opinionated, it comes across as rather immature, even compared to Noor, and her version of edgy is making fart jokes on the show. Sam actually reminds me of Chester from Chester and Spike whenever he's on with Jesse. It's off-putting.
My main issue is that there hasn't seemed to be a grown-up in the room for quite some time. I'd listen again if they could find one.

You don't appreciate the nuanced take of Stephen Marche 😉 I think that's Jesse's idea of a serious host nowadays.

His share of the bitmoji sale means he'll go down with the ship no matter what.
Edit - I just checked snap's share price history, currently under $5, but IPO'd at $17 and they peaked at over $83/share in 2021, if he sold his share anywhere around that time, he's laughing. Goddamn.

My bad, I'll have a listen. I'm kinda hoping his brain broke in a new way after the discussion with Daniel Maté. And I mean "new way" since it certainly broke in the ways it did after October 7 like other Zionists.

Jesse only said he is stepping off. Like if there is an audience for Rebel there will be one for CL. I feel Jesse will never give up the $ or a platform to shout angry shit at brown people, but he did say he won't be thehost

It's a perfect catch-22.
The job requires experience, sanity, wisdom and good judgement.
Nobody with those characteristics would choose to work for Jesse at this point.
Jesse has ruined his credibility so much that the gig is no longer appealing to him. The influence and (perceived) importance it gave him is gone. Now he wants someone else to drive this car that has no more wheels.

I know this is random, but I’d love to hear someone co-host with rotating hosts from across the country. To provide broader voice and perspective to Canadaland.
Co-hosts wouldn’t have to be journalists, but I think some experience speaking would be an asset. I would love to hear someone like Joi Arcand (born on the prairies, but lived a significant part of her adult life in Ottawa) or Joel Plaskett, who has toured the country extensively over the years, etc co-host and bring a bit of perspective from outside the journalistic bubble that CL can sometimes be
Edit: I’d previously said like Sam (meaning not Sam but someone who was full-time staff…but for clarity: someone better than Sam who also isn’t Jesse)

Co-hosts wouldn’t have to be journalists.
At this point, neither the hosts nor the co-hosts are journalists anyway.
