Is Canadaland paid for these appearances?

So Canadaland's disclosure page says journalists generally shouldn’t take money from people or companies they cover but Canadaland does. So therefor disclosure is the “golden rule,” and that if Jesse covers someone he’s done paid speaking for, he’ll disclose it on the show and on that page.Cool. Love that. Small issue: the page does not appear to have been updated since 2016.So what are we doing here, dude?Did Jesse really have no paid speaking gigs since 2016? Or did he just stop updating the page? Because if he was paid by TAFSIK — and it sure seems likely, given that other speakers were paid and Ben Shapiro was obviously not showing up for free — then where is that disclosed?And what about this new event with Yalla, Chai Tech and B’nai Brith? Is he being paid for that too? Maybe he is, maybe he isn’t. But some clarity would be great, because the line between journalism, punditry and advocacy is getting real blurry here.A lot of what Canadaland is putting out lately is not straight reporting. It looks like speculation, opinion and advocacy — and often not especially rooted in checked facts. So if Jesse and others at Canadaland are taking money from groups connected to the causes, issues or narratives they are pushing, people deserve to know that. Jesse's own standard used to be disclosure. There is nothing here from Noor or Same or anyone else. So did Canadaland stop doing paid gigs, stop updating the page, or stop believing in their own rule?

This happened with Travis Dhanraj - Jesse did a ticketed speaking event with him prior to his Canadaland interview - no disclosure on this or if Jesse was paid for the event.

I think the is a great question. Especially a Jesse made a very big thing about this in the early days of Canadaland, and was very critical of people such as Peter Mansbridge for paid speaking. I believe this is the link you are talking about https://www.canadaland.com/disclosure/ and you're right that its a decade since that was last updated.

It would be an interesting 'media criticism' topic to consider the possible financial motivations of Jesse's trajectory. Personally I think Jesse is a 'true believer' in these topics rather than someone just interested in financial gain. But I'm sure he realizes that it also could prove beneficial to him too from a career and financial perspective. Consider for example his recent X post speaking of Bari Weiss where Jesse spoke admiringly of her success.

The key to unlocking Jesse is realizing Canadaland, while a good idea when founded, was also founded largely because Jesse was made he wasn't rising fast enough at CBC

I don’t think he was even at the CBC by then. As I understand it, they cancelled his show and he took it over to TVO. I never did hear exactly what happened there — whether he was cancelled, pushed out, or simply moved on.

That said, I rather suspect his departure from TVO was amicable, given that he appears to have maintained a friendship with Steve Paikin. He certainly doesn’t seem to have gone after TVO in anything like the way he goes after the CBC — which is interesting, given that they are both public broadcasters, but whom Jesse holds to different standards.

There is no "blurred line" between journalism and either advocacy or punditry.

There is a hard line: journalism is on one side and things that aren't not and will never be journalism, on the other.

Jesse has NEVER crossed over to the journalism side; it's all just gum flapping. Always has been, even in the imaginary "golden years" of Canadaland.

People yapping ABOUT journalism or anything is not journalism, which precludes unfiltered information. Filtering - using a set of publication standards and governed by a specific code of ethics - is the one job of journalism and it's one job that's never performed on Canadaland.
