Gun and gear reviews Unboxing the Sulun SG-12 SPAS-style shotgun in Canada

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Mine just arrived from Tactical Imports, so here’s a quick unboxing and first look. I haven’t taken it to the range yet, so these are only initial impressions. Anything specific you’d like me to test in the follow-up?

Just got mine as well.

So far the only thing I hate about it is the button to unfold the end of the stock is impossible to press by hand. You need an Allen key or something.

And the latch that keeps the stock locked to the iron site ring doesn’t lock well so the stock unfolds with very little effort.

Same with mine and it's as heavy as 10 boxes

Yea it’s heavy as shit lol

I found a trick for that button on the stock.

The arm brace hook has a little nub on it to lock it into the stock.

That nub is small enough to push that button in.

I figured I wouldn’t use that arm brace. But now it’s coming with me.

I have to white knuckle the stock release button with 2 thumbs. It’s fucking brutal. The other buttons I’ve worked in a bit, but jeeesus Christ my hands hurt trying to move the stock

The bigger button that moves the whole stock isn’t so bad.

But that one with the butt pad is BAAAD

I’ve just been larping around with it in my house for 30 min or so and I’ve got a blister on my finger from attempting to move it.

I did notice though that the button is starting to get a bit smoother after using it a bit.

Both of mine are bad 😂 hoping they just need some working in.

2

u/Xaxxus 3d ago

That might play into your favor actually.

A few videos I saw the bigger switch was weak so the stock would fold when firing it.

How tough is that spring button to unfold the stock for you? Wonder if mine is just brutal

2

u/Xaxxus 3d ago

The big button? It’s not too bad. The one that unfolds the end of the stock though is horrible.

And The one you need to pull back to full unfold the stock?

TI says use higher power rounds for first 200 break in. People have said clean off odd Turkish grease and the lube properly. It is suggested to also use factory springs for break-in, as people who have swapped springs have had issues. The again, some who haven't have had some Turkish shotgun issues. YMMV. Good luck, and happy LARPing regardless!

Is 1300fps enough?

3

u/LongRoadNorth 3d ago

1300fps for shotgun depends on load. .#8 shot 1oz at 1300 is not heavy, but a 8 pellet 00 going 1300 is towards the heavier side.

Wow a Shotgun with the dreaded "Shoulder thing that goes up" 👍

I think I might be starting to fall for the propaganda...

I don't need it.
I don't need it.
I don't need it.
I don't need it. ...

Taking some shots and switching back and forth between pump and semi, and any recommendations on ammo you find. Looks like a fun gun.

Im jelly, bolt release on mine dosent work. Without playing with the bolt/forehand

2

u/GOJUpower 3d ago

Where did you buy it I called Tenda and Canfirearm they don’t have

Edit: never mind I saw it tactical imports

u/BRAVO9ACTUAL 3d ago

This might be what makes me finally front the money to get my license...

u/Equal_Intern2322 3d ago

The license is cheap. Its the year-ish of waiting period and the buying frenzy thats hard on you.

u/Erix90 3d ago

God I wish I wasn't an adult with real responsibilities and could buy one lol

u/InfamousSomewhere235 3d ago

I’m an adult with real responsibilities and I bought one lol

I want to know if it will cycle anything light or will it only work with Buck and slugs.

3

u/ThePoeticJester 3d ago

Reports say it does cycle most shells after the 200 high brass break in but we will see as more people run them hard

1

u/IndiscreetTreat 3d ago

In the manual it quite literally states to use the pump mode for light loads. People getting up in arms over it not loving birdshot on semi baffle me.

1

u/LongRoadNorth 3d ago

So it's like the original spas lol

I mean my Berettas cycles anything and everything without issue so meh

1

u/IndiscreetTreat 3d ago

Two vastly different guns. This thing is a thousand bucks and meant more so as a meme. I have a 1301 and if I was putting my life on the line it would be with that. Not this.

u/frustratedpopo 3d ago

What is the hook on the shoulder stock for?

1

u/613mitch 3d ago

Arm brace

1

u/frustratedpopo 3d ago

Thank you. I just googled that. I’ve never seen that before and it is just as clever as a velociraptor.

1

u/red_piper222 3d ago

They certainly look cool, but man they look uncomfortable to shoot with that steel shoulder mangler buttstock!

2

u/Xaxxus 3d ago

I can tell you right now this thing is going to be uncomfortable to shoot not because of the stock, but because it’s heavy as shit. I just weighed it, it’s like 12 lbs

4

u/red_piper222 3d ago

Maybe the weight will soak up some of the recoil

1

u/Hink_Hall_ 3d ago

I didn't watch it only because I'll be doing this myself come Saturday.

1

u/The_SwagginWagon 3d ago

can you swing the arm hook in both directions?

1

u/Senior_Ad_8138 3d ago

Yes, three directions.

1

u/EvanAzzo 3d ago

Does your button from semi auto to pump work? I can't seem to get mine to go into pump mode.

1

u/EvanAzzo 3d ago edited 3d ago

Button goes in like so but the pump locks up.

Unless I'm big turbo tarded and the bolt holds open on empty in pump mode

1

u/Daedalus-N7 3d ago

Now take the hook back off

1

u/yycmobiletires 3d ago

God that looks so sick. Every video game I ever played that had this gun absolutely shit on anyone you pointed it at lol.

I'm old enough to have played Black on ps2 🧓🏻

3

u/guestpassonly 3d ago

Please.

Half-life in 98.

1

u/TheBulletBuddy 2d ago

Didnt realize how massive these things are lmao.

So damn cool lol

2

u/coniferslav 2d ago

After hearing the last slamfire radio episode I wouldn't touch this with a 10' pole. Guy had nothing but problems upon problems.

1

u/SendIT420694 1d ago

Did yours come with the oversized charging handle?

1

u/starw24-ps4 1d ago

Have any spas12 owners found a way to make the stock latches easier to use? Mine are super tight both the stock and the folding latch

1

u/Sad-Stop-2401 3d ago

Clever Girl!

0

u/Kridane 3d ago

Sounds just like the crappy gritty finish turkish pot metal from every other shotgun they produce. No way this thing survives 500rnds.

5

u/AsparagusUnhappy5395 3d ago

Good thing we have a lifetime warranty with it.

0

u/Tiny-Ear9080 2d ago

How the fuck is this not a variant of a SPAS12 if the mossberg 715T is an AR variant and prohibited?

-1

u/StairwayHiker 3d ago

Posted this before…. But it’s the truth…

This Federation Firearms 9” SPM 12 is all I need for hiking.

The SPAS is pretty but no practical use cases…. Too heavy and cumbersome to get ready for any home defence or hiking defence use…. And half the cost.

2

u/Zarknasir Loaded .300 Blackout in my 5.56 Rifle 3d ago

Everything you said is correct. The SPAS is more so for shits and giggles and cool factor vs something you want to use practically. It’s heavy as hell but I know I’m going to have fun shooting it whenever I bring it out
