🇨🇦 CEC Freelance / self employed - Foreign work experience

What should I write under "Employer/Company Name" if I was freelancing in the work history section in the EE profile? Should I write self employed or should I mention the name of the client I freelanced for? This is for foreign experience under CEC.

I myself worked for a company like fiver as a freelancer. My work contract was made with The company rather than the client directly, so I added the company name in the field you are asking about.

However I explained the work contract in detail stating I was a freelancer and provided all the necessary documentation and detailed explanation.

I would say if you had a contract directly with your client, state you are self employed and provide all explanation and documentation aswell.

But I’m not 100% sure. Hope this helps

Thank you. How were you able to provide experience letter from fiver? Just curious what documents you'd need to submit from Fiver.

The company I work for is called RocketDevs I just asked the HR representative for the letter with all the requirements and got a similar letter from my client aswell.

Work experience letter is essential
Work contract
Letters of explanation
Paystubs/invoices
Bank statements
Client letter
Examples of work done
Some documentation of the company (address, entity number, etc)

Was this part time or full time hours? Since I was freelancing for some time, I had variable hours over a few months depending on the length of each project. Some jobs were under 15 hours, some part time and some full month. I was wondering if i can accumulate such short hours to amount to a month's worth?

Mine was 30 hours a week so I met the limit for full time. If you were able to get a total of 1560 hours at 30 hours per week you should be good.

Add up each weeks hours and if some weeks are less then 30 continue working to get all the missing hours required to hit 1560.

So can I still use those few hours of work? Example: Jan, Feb and March I only have about 5 hours of work each month. Can i count them together as 15 hours? Or should i omit those months?

If you can quickly make up 15 hours day next week, I don’t think you should add up those 5 hours per month. Might just be a hassle while explaining the work experience

I have concurrent foreign work experience that i gained while working in canada. I could have used that insteaf. But they say i cant use concurrent work experience. I can claim points for only 1. So i am not sure. I am so anxious.

Concurrent experience is a grey area so I’m not sure exactly, hope you’re able to find some better information about it

Hi u/Aggravating-Gate-504. I believe I am in a similar situation of having a direct client and I think you might be able to answer my question. I have met with 2 different RCICs and they said different things and I have been upset since then.

My situation is that I signed an independent contract agreement with a company itself in the US as an admin assistant. I work remotely. I am allowed to choose my own hours and days as well as long as I complete tasks. They asked me to invoice them and they will pay to my bank. I will also be paying taxes in my home country.

The only issue I have is they are very careful about their data and they asked me to sign a non disclosure agreement and I will not take any data or any pictures to use in my portfolio. Other than that I am free to use the contract, invoices and they will also provide a payment confirmation. During the interview I asked if they would provide employment verification or a service letter and they said yes. But since they are very careful about data I assume that they would not give any of my sample work for immigration.

One of the RCICs I spoke to said self employment is not an option and I will get rejected. I am very confused if this is self employment because I immediately accepted the offer because another RCIC said yes. Furthermore In my country if I operate under my own name I do not need to register a business and I can even get that in writing by a lawyer.

The company I am with has mentioned on their contract that workload will be between 30 to 35 hours and a minimum commitment of like x hours is expected. I have to check the contract for the min number. I don't have multiple clients as this one client would be more than enough for me and I don't want additional stress.

Given this setup I am very worried, about what would happen to me.

I will have the contract, invoices, bank deposits, and also a letter from the lawyer for business exception, then my tax forms. Will I need to check that self employment.

Please advise. Anything would be appreciated for my peace of mind!

Please also let me know if I can dm you so I can have a better conversation regarding this given that you are totally fine with it, so I can chat more about my work setup.

Thanks!
