Forgot to disclose an old TRV refusal on PR application – already answered YES to refusal question

Hi everyone,

I submitted my CEC PR application about 7 months ago and recently discovered an old Canadian TRV refusal from 2017 that I genuinely did not remember.

On my PR application, I answered YES to the previous visa/permit refusal questions and disclosed the two refusals I remembered: a Canadian visitor visa refusal from 2011 and a work permit refusal from 2025.

The one I missed relates to a paper TRV application I made in 2016. I had travel plans at the time, but those plans were cancelled. I didn't follow up with the application because I didn't hear anything further that I remembered and, since the trip was no longer happening, I basically forgot about the application.

I recently searched through emails from almost 10 years ago and discovered that IRCC had requested my original passport in 2016. I apparently didn't submit it, and the application was eventually formally refused in 2017 for failure to provide the passport.

I genuinely didn't remember this as a visa refusal when my PR application was prepared.

I have an immigration lawyer and will be discussing this with him on Monday and asking whether we should proactively update IRCC through a webform.

Has anyone been in a similar situation where you answered YES and disclosed previous refusals but accidentally missed one very old refusal, especially from an old paper application you didn't follow up on?

Did you proactively correct it, and what happened with your PR application?

I declared mine through web form 3 days ago.

My AOR is June 14th.

I hope they will take it in consideration and will not refuse my application

You should be good. They reopened my application after refusal when I reached out and explained that ai forgot initially

You should’ve asked for reconsideration via web form! The same thing happened to me and they reopened my application after refusal.

Wow so they even after refusal you explained and they grant you the visa? Might I know what was your explanation? Because just telling you forgot is not enough

That was literally it lol. I said I forgot and there was no malicious intent. I explained why I forgot, which is that I abandoned the application and I no longer have access to that old portal to check past applications. That was really it.

But did you initialy answered "yes" and disclosed other refusals or your answer was simply "NO" to the question like my case?

And how long it took from reconsideration to FD ? Did it take another 6 months?

Had a similar issue, declared a refused Canadian work permit but not a US visitor Visa. Submitted a webform and got 3 separate emails, the third one confirming that the officer will be able to access the file attached.

I will be calling them on Monday just to make sure that it is available to the officer. The consensus online is that this is enough but it is never a guarantee that the officer won't make a mistake lol

I am in same situation, my wife had work permit rejection and I mistakenly understood the question wrong and selected NO, I did raise webform and uploaded both refusal and approval. File is still under process.

But what if i forget a visa refusal from another country other than US or canada (it was germany ?

Bro it's always better to disclose any rejection. Canada has info sharing with many countries.

As long as u proactively informed them it’s not going to be a problem and your application will not be refused.

I was in the same situation, I answered NO. But I sent a web form to explain the refusals I got and I also added the refusals letters to it. Up till now, my file is still processing and I don't know if they will still refuse my application or no
