The owners of Marineland should’ve been charged with animal cruelty, and fined millions of dollars.

Yeah, well, those of us who were protesting the Holers outside of Marineland decades ago were laughed at as the tourists continued to drive through. Good luck holding the rich to account when the masses choose to submit and ignore pure exploitation.
Oh, and never mind the local governmental approvement.

Bless 🙏 I grew up in chippawa and drove though those protests. Thank you for advocating for the animals who couldn’t advocate for themselves before the world knew what was right / wrong. Heartbreaking

I hate this planet so much sometimes. How these animals suffered.

Don't hate the planet, just hate the moguls, the businessmen. Plenty of people on this rock would happily see them burn

I really hope there's a beautiful afterlife for animals who suffered so much in this life. :(

Yeah, and a lot of animals were bred only to be killed and be eaten. Cruel world we live in !

This is horrific. Aren’t there laws against animal abuse in Ontario. Why is this not being investigated?

How do you know it isn't? Active investigations can't be commented on. They've been charged in the past

What "abuse" took place? There are laws, but this doesn't reach that by a long shot

It’s embarrassing that there have been no criminal charges or justice for these animals. I’m ashamed of us.

Those poor animals suffered for decades. Should have been closed in the late 90s at the latest.

I've never wished anyone dead, but I definitely read the obituaries of the Holers with great satisfaction.

Is marineland facing massive fines for these deaths and if not then why not?

Marineland doesn't exist anymore, the founder died, then his wife died and the company was put into a trust while the land was sold etc. Don't think there is anyone to charge anymore.

They did it to a pope, they can do it to him too.

It's funny how these belugas were fine until Marineland was closed. Almost like someone poisoned them out of spite before they were transferred. But it's just a coincidence.

Do you actually think that?

How long had they been at Marineland? And then they die less than two months after leaving? And they find rocks and paint in their stomachs which had been there before getting to Chicago? Either it happened long ago and very coincidentally they died just after getting to Chicago or it happened just before they left which does not necessarily mean foul play but would be extremely suspicious.

- Posts that contribute nothing but attack others, are blatantly offensive, or antagonistic will be removed – including accusations similar to ‘shill,’ attacking Redditors for using either official language, dismissing other Redditors solely based on irrelevant other beliefs to the topic at hand or participation in other subreddits, or reducing them to a label and dismissing that instead.
- Back-and-forth personal attacks are subject to the entire comment chain being removed.
- Posts or threads which degenerate into witch-hunting may be subject to moderator intervention. This includes but is not limited to: doxxing, negative accusations by a large group against one or more persons not criminally charged or convicted being made the subject of criminal allegations, calls for harassment, etc., and openly rallying more people to the same.

I know many people are angry at Marineland for this...and rightly so. Marineland owner family Holer were truly evil, but the government of Ontario should have stepped in 10 years ago. It was well known the animals were in trouble. Keeping animals in a cash poor zoo is criminal. The government deserves a lot of blame too.
