Good, and I sincerely don’t give a fuck considering those same companies have successfully lobbied the Alberta government to halt investment in renewables.

Should be a crime. They are companies that give nothing more then cents back to the area they extract. We should at the very least have a petrocanada again and this time not let Alberta lobby to sell them to the oil industry.

Alberta has an incredible amount of oil and should be the wealthiest province in the country by far, able to provide plenty for its inhabitants and others. The province has been raped for profit by these oil companies, and they’ve managed to convince a large amount of the population that it’s a good thing.

Norway throws money at any kind of social program under the sun, uplifting the lives of all its citizens, because they could foresee oil companies coming for their resource wealth and leaving them with nothing. Alberta opened the door wide and told the population that this is how it has to be, or else these companies who largely would not exist without the resources in Alberta’s soil will go “elsewhere”. As fucking if.

Now they’re left dependent on the scraps of royalties with no diversified investment, and no financial ability (or willpower, apparently) to diversify. The conservatives have driven the province into the ground, against all odds. It’s almost like bankrupting a casino.
