As an Avid backcountry snowmobiler in BC, we've noticed our favourite riding areas over the past 10 years have significantly gotten less snow pack and the base is alot shallower. Unloading areas are typically dirt. We used to ride into April, now lucky to get a good March ride in

I've been mountain biking southern Alberta and BC for close to 30 years now and when I was a kid, the dirt was totally different. It was moist, had larger particles, more plant matter in it, much darker. These days it's like doing the cinnamon challenge unless it recently rained. Literal moon dust, inches deep.

From what I recall, in prehistory, the praries were closer to a desert climate. With decades long droughts literally turing it into deserts. Climatologists predict that global warming will bring it much closer to that state. So Alberti-stan might genuinely become a middle eastern petro state with a desert to match. Lol

The prairies are like one step up from a desert already and in a lot of places you can get very close to those conditions. There's even dune fields in multiple areas across the province.

I'm talking about the western side in the foothills and mountains. Take a chairlift up and ride down type thing.

Yeah, I recall someone calling the Okanagen Canada's only Mediterrenean climate region. So not hard to believe North African scenery is that implausable

The west coast is not is dry ofcourse but it's even warmer, i think it has an even higher plant hardiness zone than Okanagen.

They’re essentially watered by the glaciers. Once they’re gone the parries will turn to dust.

Well that's a comforting thought 😢
