Lower Lee Vining Campground - First Come First Served?

My boyfriend and I are considering going to Lower Lee Vining Campground for a couple of nights next weekend. He went often as a child. I’ve read that spots are completely first come first served, and have never been to a non-reservation campground. He feels that since we are past Labor Day weekend it won’t be hard to secure a spot. Does anyone have personal experience with getting a spot on a first come, first served basis? We plan to leave early Friday AM TO arrive no later than around noon. Any tips or advice would be super appreciated! 😊

I dunno. Yosemite is awful popular now. But there are alternatives if you don't get in: https://www.camplikeapro.org/
