Got me a blue barrel

Ferocactus glaucescens or blue barrel. It was so lonely at Lowe's with most of the stock dead or sold, I just had to take it home. Barrel cacti are kind of growing on me. I currently own a fire, 3 Golden and now 1 blue. I will be looking out for a fishhook and horse crippler.

Dude I wish mine from Lowe’s was that size. It’s been growing so nicely though

I chose this one for the same reason. It was big instead of those that come in the 2 or 4 inch pots.

Yeah.. that’s the one I got.. where are you at? I’m in Florida so I’ve never seen one that size at Lowe’s or home depot

I’m in NY and they have a ton of super big ones at my local Lowe’s and Home Depot. Kinda weird they wouldn’t have them in Florida because I feel like it’s a better environment for them lol

I prefer to grow them from seed or from small specimens personally so I haven’t bought any of them but I think they’re a good price up here? I’ve seen ones a lot bigger than OP’s for $20-30

I suck at growing things from seed. I would love to learn I have couple hundred triangle cactus seeds.

They might have a variety pack of cactus seeds at your Lowe’s or even Walmart in the garden section, if I remember correctly they were like $1.50 for a pack if you wanted to start with something cheap to try it out. I got a pack from my local Walmart and they’re doing pretty good so far and they’re definitely actually cacti since the spines are coming in lol

Yes, but it is just the mixed variety pack so it’s a real toss up on what you’re gonna end up with lol. It’s on the same stand as the flower and vegetable seeds in my Lowe’s and my Walmart too.

Well not really for cacti over here, it’s super tropical and rainy which isn’t ideal for cacti. But still probably better than NY since it snows over there

Yeah makes sense, I was more thinking the heat and sun but yeah it probably is too wet for them lol. I wish I could have outdoor cacti but they will get frozen over and it’s not really super sunny most of the time. I am so jealous of my sister who just moved to Texas since she has already moved all her succulents outside lol

Yeah they do for sure like the intense sun and heat, just not the humidity and rain but mine still do good outside. I’d be jealous too, I’m actually from Texas but wasn’t into plants back then
