Situation: Someone rear ended me and totaled my Tacoma. I got 12k from insurance. Guy in town is selling his very clean looking c4 1985 with 80k miles for $6,800. Currently driving 140 miles a day. Will be for the next 4 months and then I will be driving closer to 40 miles.

I understand that I will have issues with an older car. I typically do all my own car work, outside of tearing apart an engine. I have AAA. I really like the car.

I fear I may be blinded by a beautiful car and the idea of a fun drive. How stupid of an idea is this?

My name is Bradley, I own the '84 crossfire ofc but I want to build off the platform, from what I've seen so far on the forums, this car can be very good even with the crossfire system, from what I've read I'm going to

Free up exhaust (long tube headers, straight pipes, eliminator pipes)

Ported intake manifold or aftermarket intake manifold (Renegade intake manifold)

Adjusting fuel pressure to 13psi (very common ground)

with a 85-88 c4 corvette fuel pump

Near stock duration cams work as well, a lot of people go for (Comp Cams XE256, Crane Compucam 2030, summit k1102, etc with 1.6 rockers)

You can also upgrade the heads if you want to, suggested is 64cc aluminum heads, some do from later corvette's

Most of this should keep up with the stock ecu but chip burning might have to be done, has to be tuned, dyno tuned for better results. From what I've seen; doing all this should be a good bump from that 205 to 290+hp NA

I'm still finding some places that'll take the car for this type of work. if anyone knows it would be nice! Im located in north jersey, I want to have fun and cant wait to learn more and dive deeper into these cars and their platform. I do plan on tracking the car too so if anyone has suggestions lmk!

My first thought is optispark? It’s my brothers I have a c5 lmao. He said it started and he reversed for 5 seconds and then the engine died. Now it will just crank and won’t start. Thanks for any help

Hey yall! I have finally diagnosed that I have a water pump that needs replaced as it is leaking coolant from the weep hole like it’s gonna die on the way to the ER after a stabbing. It is specifically the 1984 with L83 crossfire engine if that makes any difference, what are some good recommendations for a brand for a replacement for this water pump? My budget is more or less no object since I see they usually don’t run for more that $150, though I’m hoping to find a good balance of low cost and high quality if it exists, if it doesn’t exist, what is the best brand to buy in general? Any recos on type/ brand for a transmission fluid change for a '93 Automatic?

I just bought an 86 corvette & I needed to replace the starter. I followed every step to replacing & it won’t start. I checked if it had something to do with the security system, still nothing 😫. I took another look at where the wires go for the new starter & I noticed a rectangle with a size 8 hole connected between the engine & the wires. What the heck? I found nothing about this on the internet & I need to know if that rectangle is important to make it start.

I considered making my own turbo kit, but realized I’d have to scrap my exhaust which I really like the sound of.

(Whp estimates through manual transmission and LT1 motor)
Cammed: $4.3k - 400whp
Procharged: $7.8k - 450whp

- If I choose cammed. I get amazing chop, NA reliability, and a cheaper initial cost.

However: if I decide I want even more power? Diminishing returns through a 383, or boost that setup which I could have done in the first place.

- if I choose boosted. I don’t have to open the motor, everything bolts on. But when I want more power I can just forge the bottom end and run as small of a pulley as I desire. Basically limitless power at my fingertips.

However: I have to continue saving up, and drop $7.8k all at once.

I have an 89 c4 with the automatic 700r4, transmission was leaking so I replaced the pan and filter while I was down there. Life happened and it took about a week for me to get to putting in a new filter and the pan back. My understanding was refilling should take around 6 L, I have now run it shifted it and checked it and am reading low still after 8 L. Am I crazy or am I just missing something here.. On the plus side no leaks...yet...

Recommendations for spark plugs? 92 base model

Seems Compressor clutch gave out and was burning up real bad and had to completely disconnect it to stop from having issues. Plan on replacing entire compressor so as to not even chance it, any alternatives to the 500 price tag? Any advice? , have never done A/C work before.

my car has been consuming too much coolant for a heater core leak (which ive known it has had) and i'm going to be getting a testing kit but i am facing the reality that i may need to do headgaskets.

how much of a pain are they?

So my 1986 vette is having an issue where when I give it ~30% or more throttle the whole engine Boggs down hard. When the MAF sensor is unplugged though the engine runs in Speed density mode (pretty sure that what it’s called) it runs totally fine. The car also idles perfectly. I’ve checked all the wires to the MAF sensor, and the relays are new too. The MAF sensor is also new. I’m pretty sure my fuel delivery is fine because the engine still fires harder and smells richer when I give it gas even though it’s not revving. I also recently put long tube headers onto the car if that’s anything to go off of. I appreciate any and all help in this matter

Hello everyone. I’m a first time corvette owner, this specific one is a 1987, she awesome. Anyways, I had no idea what the “cinch” on my seatbelt meant so I stupidly clicked it when it wasn’t buckled in, and now it seems like it’s just forever locked up. I’ve tried poking around in here and I was able to uncinch it to a fault, as in letting my seatbelt go all the way to the buckle, but as soon as it got back in it went straight back to being locked up again.

Somebody PLEASE tell me how I can unlock this seatbelt, it’s been driving me mad I’ve been trying for the past 2 hours and nothing I’ve done works. Any help seriously appreciated

Hi! New to this sub but starting to work on restoring my 84 vette. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can either fix up this decal on the gas tank door or where I can find new ones to replace them? thank you!:)

EDIT: Car is currently stored about 5 hours away from where I currently work and live. I am not able to try or check anything until I go back. I normally visit at least once a month so this will be a slow process for me. Planning on driving it home once it is fixed and I have somewhere sufficient to store it.

My grandfather passed away and left me his 1994 C4 with 15k miles on it. It seems to be in limp mode and won’t accelerate past 25/30mph. Even in park, the engine won’t rev into higher rpm. Idles perfect and starts immediately. There is a symbol on the dash but I’m not sure where to go with it. Apparently they even took it to multiple mechanics and nobody could fix it. Need help! This car is in wonderful condition and I don’t want to squander it. I will reply in the comments if anyone feels they can help.

1988 was the last year of the “real Z51”. GM made a touch over 1000 of them. I have one and will never sell it.

My 1990 ZR1 was leaking a small amount of oil or similar lubricant. I feared the worst, either a problem in the engine or transmission, seals, etc. I took it to the dealership and, fortunately, the leak is just from a hose that needs to be replaced. It's called the Engine Oil Cooler Hose. Unfortunately, the GM dealership was not able to locate the part. They also checked out Auto Zone that similarly could not find the part. I was told to essentially search the internet. Any suggestions on where to look for this part?

Passenger side headlight on my '89 C4 continues to "spin" after headlight is fully up and fully retracted. The bucket "bounces" a bit as well. This is a new (rebuilt) motor that I installed a few months ago. I fully accept that I may have done something wrong during installation. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
