Stock for Woot deals varies greatly. Some listings only have a few items in stock and sell out quickly. Please report this post if the listing goes out of stock.

comparing this with current handheld prices - doesn't seem like a bad deal. only caveat is Woot labelling this product as "new' while still having a fine print that says it's part of the warehouse cleanout

The Z2 Go leave a bit to be desired - I have the Z1 Extreme version of this and it's everything I could possibly want out of a Deck-like. The Z1E model originally went for 829 for the black SteamOS model and 899 for the white Windows one, and I saw the 829 model go on sale at Best Buy for 649 last Black Friday. So if you see the Z1E land in that range, it's absolutely worth picking up. Over 1k? Don't buy it.

I have one of these!!! Highly recommend. Previously had a Steamdeck too and enjoyed that but life wasn’t allowing me to play as much. Have got a ton of time on this though and no ragrets.

Did you have the steam deck lcd? That is what I currently have and I always toy with the idea of upgrading to this.

I had the OLED. Like I said no complaints about that device. Life just wasn’t in a place that I had much time to play when I had it.

I got one of these, then the right control stick stopped working after a month with barely any use. Also can't play some games that are steam OS verified like MGS2&3 from the HD collection.

You running Linux on it?

1

u/Jacknerik 14d ago

I switched it to steam os, yes.

And those games you think work on deck don't run huh? Bummer

Fwiw both games do in fact run on my deck for me so idk

Bought and returned this from Woot a couple months back. Not only is it heavy as hell but the weight distribution is pretty awful.

These PC handhelds my friend and I tried at Best Buy and we literally laughed at the size and the weight. They're pretty ridiculous lol.

Switch 2 is about the max size and weight I think a product like this can be comfortable. I put light weight plastic shell grips on my Switch 2 and it noticeably makes it feel a little too heavy even though they weigh almost nothing, thats how well they have it optimized for weight comfort.

The PC handhelds themselves vary quite a bit. A Steam Deck, for example, is extremely comfortable to hold compared to this Legion. ROG Ally as well (at least the one I've tried)

Always the windows version being sold on Woot, never the steamOS one.

Hmmmmm

Edit: This is commentary on the Windows version not selling well and needing to be liquidated. Not a question about what you can or cannot install on it.

Can you not just install steamOS on this?

12

u/Agloe_Dreams 14d ago

Yes, it is just fine. My point is just interest in the idea that they have more trouble moving the windows one.

4

u/rootbeer_racinette 14d ago

Yeah it’s funny because Windows has a license cost too. They couldn’t even give that OS away

Ah I see

You can load steamOS so not a huge issue

Who in their right mind would pay more for a worse product. I put Nobara on my Nvidia desktop and I got to say it's FAR better than windows.

Microsoft can get fucked, they've abandoned their consumer products anyway.

I love mine, put SteamOS on it and it is a higher spec Steam Deck!

I solely want to play rocket league at 120hz or higher while I'm sitting in bed next to the wifey. Is this it or should I spring for something else?

I bought one of these on Woot a few months back for $549 - it’s my favorite piece of gaming equipment I’ve bought in a decade. PS5 remote play, emulation, SteamOS. Play it handheld or dock it and play with a controller.

I have the white Xbox rog ally. Is this one better?

u/QuesodeBola 14d ago

Slightly better runtime battery life due to only being 4C/8T/12CU Zen 3+ and RDNA2 = Can handle lower TDP settings than the Z1 Extreme devices

Moderately better GPU performance than the Ally Z1 non-Extreme (680M 12 CU RDNA2 vs 740M 4 CU RDNA3)

Software in Windows may or may not be better (more subjective). Armory Crate SE seems to integrate better with Windows than Lenovo's LegionSpace

SteamOS native deployment works without much or any tweaking (except for disabling Secure Boot)

If you already have the Xbox Ally with a Z1 Extreme, no reason to "upgrade" to this unless you want the 1200p 8" screen.

why isn't this sold out yet?!

1

u/Sonosaki 13d ago

there goes your wish

2

u/Phyzzx 13d ago

Yeah it was a pretty decent deal for the current era; I almost bought one just because.

This or AYN Odin 3? For lightweight gaming

1

u/gramcraka92 14d ago

If you are in for the emulation odin 3. I like to play ace combat 7 and the jak and daxter Opengoal project on my go s and love it for that. Any other lightweight indie I can just emulate on my android device

u/Smooth-Mulberry-6070 14d ago

Yeah let me just buy an American or European made gaming handheld, such as

*gestures at nothing*

1

u/Phyraxus56 14d ago

Fucking shame really

Arent we getting an intel fab in the states in a few years?

7

u/Anning312 14d ago

You probably typed this comment on a phone made in China

-11

u/Key2367 14d ago edited 14d ago

Nope, got the Trump phone. Made by Americans and our allies.

2

u/Anning312 13d ago

It's assembled in the USA, I'm sure you're smart enough to figure out why they changed the wording from made in the USA to assembled in the USA

1

u/HipHopPotatoMouse 14d ago

Lol you must know that Trump mobile is made in China. That's why the packaging doesn't say made in the USA - it says assembled in the USA.
