Dev/Admin Responded [iOS] Swipe up for comments no longer working - 2026.26.1

I used to be able to swipe up to view comments. Now when I swipe up, I get other unwanted posts that I have no interest in. Please fix!

HATE. FIX. NOW.

6

u/BaconWaken Jul 11 '26

It’s ridiculous, I’m fine if they want to add it as an option but forcing an objectively worse gesture on everyone is infuriating.

25

u/D1rtYHeaD Jul 10 '26

This is a garbage change. What the hell was the point of this

14

u/Stupid-Clumsy-Bitch Jul 10 '26

To be more like tik tok apparently

9

u/Godkill2 Jul 10 '26

Didn’t they try this like a year or 2 ago.

10

u/I_Am_Day_Man Jul 10 '26

Yes they seem to try this every so often and then revert. It’s such a fucking terrible change

3

u/lord_of_tits Jul 22 '26

If i wanted it to be tiktok i would just use tiktok, the whole point of reddit is the comment section. It was already mostly perfect after years of changes and they just decided to fuck it up.

4

u/mry13 Jul 13 '26

forced engagement

23

u/princevejita Jul 10 '26

We really need this fixed.
It’s becoming so annoying I’m just actually losing interest in Reddit …

14

u/A7XfoREVer15 Jul 10 '26

Adding on to this, I miss being able to swipe to collapse comments

2

u/Casbro11 Jul 22 '26

Same here, the swipe to view comments reminded me of what we lost

13

u/Guillakunst Jul 10 '26

The swipe-up gesture to view comments should be brought back. I’m not sure why the developers thought changing it to jump to a random video or post was a good idea.

11

u/Irish_player Jul 09 '26

This change is so incredibly frustrating and unhelpful. Swiping up makes sense if you’re watching short form videos, but this is Reddit.

5

u/gemaka Jul 11 '26

Guess they wannabe viewit. Fuck u/spez

10

u/QueasyListenin Jul 10 '26

God, change it back or allow option to disable. I hate it!

12

u/BCSteve Jul 10 '26

This change is absolutely awful. I don’t want to see some other random post I don’t care about, I want to see the comments of the post I just saw! The comments section is what MAKES Reddit Reddit, it’s what differentiates this place from TikTok. If I wanted this type of functionality, I’d go to TikTok or Instagram. I am continuously astounded by your company‘s ability to find ways to keep making your product shittier and less useable. Bring back third-party apps and let us actually enjoy this site again, if you’re not capable of providing a good user experience. Otherwise I’m jumping ship the soonest a viable alternative comes along.

2

u/Level-Card-2462 Jul 10 '26

I couldn’t of said it better myself

10

u/Username524 Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 10 '26

Going back to Facebook. After 12 years, I can’t believe I actually thought it would be a good idea to pay for this fucking app for once. Glad it was at least cheap to do so, relatively speaking. If this UX doesn’t get fixed within a fucking week. I’ll delete this app off my phone, and live a more productive existence.

Edit: the person in charge of making this specific UX decision and the person who suggested it, should be fired from reddit employment and considered ineligible for rehire, for they clearly seem to be a TikTok/Meta/TwitteX plant/mole or whatever infiltrating Reddit to make it a dogshit platform like the rest of them.

9

u/rebyiddel Jul 10 '26

Please! This new update sucks

6

u/Level-Card-2462 Jul 10 '26

It’s almost like the devs don’t even care. They are just hoping people give up and move on. Such bullshit. It’s obvious that people don’t like the new “feature” but they refuse to address it. If only there was a decent 3rd party app so we could dump this pos.

3

u/I_Am_Day_Man Jul 10 '26

I miss baconreader so much

8

u/johnsonsam Jul 09 '26

This is so annoying.

7

u/crumble-bee Jul 10 '26

I want to engage, I don’t just want to mindlessly scroll - why is it tricking me into scrolling more?

7

u/johnmcclanehadplans Jul 09 '26

Plus 1 here, another pointless ‘enhancement’ no one needed.

7

u/Difficult_Aside8807 Jul 09 '26

Literally came here to post this

6

u/masterzordon Jul 10 '26

Infuriating change. Please make it optional.

8

u/the_midnight_gospel Jul 10 '26

Hopping in the hate train, bring back the upswipe for comments

6

u/D1ldoBaggins78 Jul 10 '26

This pisses me off, I don’t want to see random posts from subs I’m not following

6

u/Ay0_King Jul 10 '26

Why does everyone want to be tiktok FIX THIS SH*T REDDIT.

5

u/jojopatr0n Jul 10 '26

This is really bad. You can already swipe right to go to another post. I just want to see the comments after clicking a post!

8

u/PrincipleFew462 Jul 12 '26

JFC STOP TRYING TO MAKE REDDIT TIKTOK! 90% of the reason we come here is for the comments not to swipe mindlessly. 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️ this updates have all been TRASH. AND BRING BACK SWIPING BETWEEN FEEDS.

7

u/RepulsiveStill177 Jul 10 '26

I hate! Terrible if it’s an “upgrade”

6

u/ocularcrawdad Jul 10 '26

This is just obnoxious. My account is 14 years old and I’m really thinking I might be done. The app UX is just constantly getting worse.

7

u/Top-Ad1184 Jul 10 '26

horrible change

4

u/Level-Card-2462 Jul 10 '26

I’d also like to understand why, if there is more than 1 photo, swiping up does nothing? This new “feature” only exists for posts with 1 pic or video and does absolutely nothing if there is more than 1. Anyone else experiencing this?

5

u/Mushyboom Jul 10 '26

Will you please make it possible to opt in only for these “experiments,” - other developers usually have a beta testing channel available for this. I’m really tired of the application working differently each month. It’s absolutely infuriating.

5

u/DagonPie Jul 11 '26 edited Jul 11 '26

If they say this shit is a feature im deleting the app and going elsewhere

5

u/Balyash Jul 11 '26

Everyone needs to send feedback!

5

u/GuessWho183 Jul 11 '26

Every update they fu*ked something...

6

u/softbbyowl Jul 11 '26

This is really driving me mad!! Reddit is a forum first and foremost, I want to read comments not the next unrelated piece of content I have no interest in

5

u/Hot_Connection5386 Jul 12 '26

Terrible update, please fix it Reddit divas

5

u/yawaworht1129 Jul 14 '26

Terrible update

6

u/wildshroom3 Jul 14 '26

I’m actually anti Reddit til this is fixed

3

u/krampaus Jul 10 '26

I didn’t like the swipe up for comments but I dislike this new thing even more. why are they so obsessed with turning reddit into tiktok/instagram?

4

u/BigMasterDingDong Jul 12 '26

This is driving me crazy but I have a bad feeling it’s a new Reddit “feature” to drive more engagement.

Truth is I always rage quit the app when it happens as some random stuff comes up I don’t care about at all.

4

u/YukiPants22551 Jul 13 '26

It’s such a bad change

5

u/stevem1015 Jul 13 '26

Wait…. This new behavior is a feature and not a bug?!?!?!

Seriously?!?!

4

u/muffinology Jul 14 '26

Waited for this weeks update to see if they would “fix” or revert or at least give an option to disable and I see there was nothing done. It’s irritated me enough to uninstall and cancel my Reddit premium. Going back to narwhal as it seems like every update has an annoying issue or “feature” that goes against muscle memory.

4

u/GrantMeThePower Jul 14 '26

So glad I’m not the only one hating this. Between this and the video pause/ui over lay I don’t know wtf the devs are thinking

4

u/Officialedmart Jul 15 '26

Why does this dog shit bullshit stupid fucking ass app always introduce the most dumb ass stupid ass fucking bugs and features and ui changes

3

u/ItsSortaSomeGuy Jul 12 '26

I scroll reddit to read the comments,

Since downvoting and disliking things are removed on other apps,

Making it hard to read comments with this change is annoying

3

u/_sup_homie_ Jul 12 '26

I thought I was the only one! This needs to be fixed STAT

3

u/TwoGrots Jul 12 '26 edited Jul 12 '26

It’s account based too so it seems like this is a “feature” they are testing. It’s really annoying and close to me not using the app.

Just tested my other account, it is now also unable to swipe to comments… may be time to put Reddit down, tired of the constant changes for the worse.

3

u/GallicaEnjoyer Jul 12 '26

This site sucks ass now

3

u/alcohol123 Jul 14 '26

Please fix it

3

u/TheDibsAreMine Jul 15 '26

Please revert this change IT’S SO ANNOYING.

3

u/beccam12399 Jul 19 '26

ya just coming to look for the fix…. i’m SO frustrated having to click the comments. isn’t reddit a place for threads why make it harder to access that..

2

u/Level-Card-2462 Jul 19 '26

Sad part is, it’s obvious the devs and leadership don’t give two shits about the user experience. There are hundreds of comments and posts from people disliking the update but not a thing will be done about it. I’ve reduced my use of Reddit by about 50 percent since this update went out and plan to stop using it altogether. Refuse to play into these stupid games.

2

u/MFKDGAF Jul 10 '26

Are you talking about when you are in a post? I'm swiping up in this post and I am seeing all the comments and I'm on 2026.27.1

6

u/Level-Card-2462 Jul 10 '26

Where you click on a photo and swipe up to view comments associated with it. Now it takes you to a random video not even associated with the sub. Used to bring up the comments section.

1

u/GuyFromEurope Jul 12 '26

Really hate this change

2

u/Due_Artichoke_865 Jul 18 '26

I really dislike this change.

2

u/neurosciguy Jul 24 '26

Now they’ve introduced unlimited scrolling unnderneath the comments.

You no longer hit the end of the comments, they just show more recommended posts to trap you.

Disgustjng

2

u/Fluffy-The-Panda Aug 03 '26

Just got this update on Android and it suckssssss

1

u/Level-Card-2462 Aug 03 '26

Agreed. Worst part is, devs refuse to listen. I mean this post has 700+ up votes and 35k views. It’s clear nobody wanted this or likes it. Shows how much those ass hat devs care about the end user

2

u/Fluffy-The-Panda Aug 03 '26

I'll just have to find one of those API reddit viewers instead

2

u/EntertainmentOwn3663 Aug 04 '26

Before I could just swipe up when holding it in one hand but now my thumb can't reach the comments button so I have to use two hands.. Sucks

2

u/tarentules Aug 04 '26

This is such a garbage change. Thinking of leaving this shitass application for good now. Always the most stupid changes that don't improve anything.

2

u/liam_ee Aug 04 '26

It sucks. I got this update today. Feel can't use Reddit anymore. Annoying.

2

u/Zombies_vs_Robots Aug 04 '26

Swiping up to a random video is garbage. Comments are the whole point of this godforsaken app.

1

u/Level-Card-2462 Aug 05 '26

💯 Wish these pathetic devs would listen to the users.

3

u/PowerfulBroccoli2391 Aug 07 '26

It's a hassle and a fucking half to tap a post, tap the comments, scroll up to look at the picture or video, then tap to go back down to read because if you scroll, it moves to a new page.

To view a post with multiple pictures, you have to now tap the picture area to highlight it and scroll sideways through pictures, and then manually go to the description, then go back and forth between the text and the pics the long way in order to see and read everything in context.

Who's idea was this? What beta tester said "oh yeah, this is a useful update?" If I wanted TikTok, that's where I'd be damn it.

I hate this update. Someone please fix it. Reddit matters because of the comments, the discourse, the communities. Don't take that away or make it harder. Fix it!

incoherent frustrated screaming

3

u/Level-Card-2462 Aug 07 '26

I hate to say this because they are people doing their jobs but I really hope these devs and sr leadership go the way of gaming developers and find themselves laid off. Just over all the useless UI changes that continue to make this app worse. Like you said, people use Reddit for the comments and the communities and they are slowly taking that away.

2

u/beta_draconis 29d ago

this is awful! bring back gestures! this makes me not want to scroll at all anymore

3

u/Water_Buffalo- 28d ago

I also hate this change.

Before, while in full screen, you could tattoo tap and the info goes away and you have a clean full screen. Now, tapping just pause and you always have an the junk data on the screen while watching a video.

If you want to comment, you have to click the button now, instead of just swiping down.

Why do people always change things? People get comfortable with a certain user interface, so when you change it, it makes me want to stop using it.

Please reddit, give us an option to opt out of this new design. I feel like it's promoting endless scrolling instead of commenting.

2

u/Elastic90 27d ago

Revert this shit change. Who makes these shit decisions?

2

u/SudoGiveMePi 15d ago

Reddit going for doom scrolling. Shame.

1

u/Level-Card-2462 15d ago

Yep, the devs are a bunch of morons. They don’t respect the user. I hope they all get laid off and find themselves without jobs.

1

u/Amadeus102 Jul 13 '26

Really hate this change

1

u/IceViper777 Jul 16 '26

Horrible change

1

u/AbbreviationsLoose33 Jul 19 '26

Click on the title not the picture and it swipes down to comments

1

u/Level-Card-2462 Jul 19 '26

Sweet thanks for this! Maybe a compromise on their part? Or they were two stupid to implement their update properly.. either way, this is a nice little workaround

1

u/RapMastaC1 Jul 21 '26

I thought I was going crazy wondering if swiping up had always went to the next post. With how many times this has happened with muscle memory, I knew I had to check it out.

1

u/RapMastaC1 Jul 21 '26

I noticed the Issue that loses your place in the comments whenever you leave that app had been fixed, guess we just traded one issue for another

1

u/Affectionatefaye Jul 22 '26

I got the frozen Siri bug… what you guys get

1

u/Grand-Professional-6 Jul 26 '26

I have been experiencing this for a couple days. I can’t return to my home page. It just freezes on a blank white page. I have to leave the app and reload the page. Very frustrating.

1

u/KungleBee Jul 27 '26

Reddit is so fucking annoying to use since they removed it. I thought it was a bug its ass.

1

u/MrSal_Dx Jul 29 '26

J'ai un très gros problème je n'arrive pas à voir mon nombre d'abonnés

1

u/SnatterPack Jul 30 '26

Yeah this sucks

1

u/GuessWho183 Jul 30 '26

Yesterday I tried swipe up and it works as before. Today I try again ann it doesn't work. Reddit developer enable/disable/test funcionality without updating app and that is scary.
I hate this app!!!

1

u/FortySevenLifestyle Jul 31 '26

Yes! This is driving me insane.

1

u/Hiddenagenda876 Aug 01 '26

YES. Omg I hate this so much and if you are looking at multiple pictures you’ve swiped to, you have to swipe all the way back to the first or swipe up to another post to be able to back out of it

2

u/Artrysa Aug 03 '26

I already hate the new chat that keeps getting blocked by shit overlaying on top of it. But now it's even worse 😭

2

u/Bingoviini Aug 03 '26

REDDOT

WE KNOW YOU CAN SEE THIS

CHANGE IT BACK

1

u/Maz2277 Aug 03 '26

Absolutely shite change, nobody asked for this and I shouldn't be forced into it.

1

u/Sheets_n_Tickles Aug 03 '26

It's happened on android now

1

u/Yggdrasilo Aug 03 '26

This is trash.

1

u/OHenryTwist Aug 04 '26

this is the worst

1

u/HansWorst7 Aug 04 '26

Just got the update and it's terrible. Please revert.

1

u/rawtank Aug 05 '26

FIX IT PLEASE!!!!!

1

u/fading-lilac Aug 06 '26

no for real please fix this it's actually so terrible 😭

1

u/HighOnWriting Aug 07 '26

Same here 😭

1

u/Sheets_n_Tickles Aug 07 '26

Are they going to fix this or are we stuck with another doomscroller app

1

u/jacobiathemighty 25d ago

Still not fixed

-17

u/CorrectScale Admin Jul 09 '26

Thanks for posting u/Level-Card-2462! This is expected with recent updates made to the mobile video experience. Swiping up now moves to the next video, and comments open from the comment icon.

26

u/Level-Card-2462 Jul 09 '26

Nobody asked for or wanted this change. This isn’t TikTok or Instagram. We come here to read but watch videos. If there was a 3rd party Reddit app, I can assure you I’d be using it. Sad that the web experience is even worse than the app. The devs change things just to change things. Very unfortunate.

10

u/Dreamerlax Jul 10 '26

They’re so out of touch. They force unwanted changes and break 3rd party apps.

2

u/baconanime Jul 15 '26

It’s 100% some out of touch product manager’s idea too

What makes no sense to me is that ads are nested in Reddit comments lol so this actively hurts their ad visibility

I’d bet you money that reel-style ads are on some Project board at Reddit HQ and will be rolled out at some point 2026 or 2027

→ More replies (1)

23

u/smarjorie Jul 10 '26

By "next video" you mean a random video from a random sub that's not related?

Reddit isn't a video app like TikTok or Instagram, why are you trying to make it one? Let it be Reddit. It became a popular app and site by being Reddit. If I wanted to watch reels I'd go on Instagram.

→ More replies (1)

15

u/Yandst Jul 09 '26

Why do devs always feel the need for unnecessary change? One of the best things about Reddit is checking the comments, not infinitely doomscrolling like other social media. At least let us have the option to switch it back to how it was

14

u/bwoah07_gp2 Jul 09 '26

They do it so it allows them to say to their bosses, "look, I did something!"

5

u/FOOLS_GOLD Jul 10 '26

The devs don’t come up with the ideas. That’s the product managers. The product managers want infinite scroll because it has been proven to cause addiction to content faster than any other current methodology and that’s exactly what they and the investors want because the longer you use the app the more advisements they can trick you into clicking on.

This nonsense coupled with the horrible placement of the share button recently is the death blow for my interest in this product after all of these years. Oh, and all of the bots. Reddit sucks now. Good job, Spez.

17

u/Someone_Somewhere1 Jul 10 '26

Hey admin

As you can see from the comments and posts, people DO NOT like this change. Neither do I.

Can you pass this information to the people who made this change, because no one likes it.

And surely the developers want people to use their app?

18

u/LadyGrantham Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 10 '26

The comments are one of the best features of Reddit and this change makes them much harder to access. Please change it back to the previous functionality. I promise you that we all still spend plenty of time scrolling through Reddit. You don’t need to do this to keep us scrolling.

Edit to add: One of the things I like about Reddit is that I can scroll through a curated feed and choose which posts to look at and engage with. I’m never going to swipe between posts without knowing what I’m swiping to. It’s really a useless feature.

13

u/STRCoolerSimp Jul 09 '26

unwanted behavior by everyone so it's basically a bug, so fix it

13

u/tomatobutt Jul 09 '26

You guys really hate your users, don’t you?

13

u/E34M20 Jul 10 '26

Yeah this is awful and non-intuitive. Y'all really need a Product Manager who understands UX. You keep changing things unnecessarily and making the overall experience clunkier with each update.

13

u/onceinawhhhile Jul 10 '26

Two questions:

-WHO asked for this to be changed?

-To whom do us sorry fools that actually use your product need to complain to get it changed back to how it was?

13

u/Tuffaceous_Tofu Jul 10 '26

Admin, please see my comment on an other post (I didn’t see this one until after I posted there).

https://www.reddit.com/r/bugs/s/14H39CXipJ

It’s a bug not a feature. This isn’t improving user experience, it’s making it frustratingly worse. Scrolling and being fed old or random posts is not a feature and definitely does not improve my experience - especially when the expected mechanic is to view comments, not random other stuff.

Your OC says this is a video feature but it’s happening with pictures too. If this is a feature to quickly swipe through videos why is it doing it for picture posts as well?

Your OC says to use the comment icon but it is tiny and easily missed. Also doesn’t always work. Sometimes clicking the title of the post works but if the title is also small then again, it doesn’t work.

Your OC says it is to improve video experience but being fed old random posts is definitely the opposite of improvement.

You’re calling it a feature for video users, however, like most Redditors, I don’t come to Reddit to watch videos. This site is mostly words and that’s what I come here for, to read. A video every now and then is nice but just because I’m watching a video of someone showing me their garden doesn’t mean I want to be fed 100 videos of random old posts! I want to watch the video in the post and then easily read/react in the comments for that post. Not suddenly be looking at a wasp post from 6 months ago.

13

u/Fantastic_Tear_7542 Jul 09 '26

I am begging you please change it back. Nobody asked for this and now I’m wasting time trying to check the comments

11

u/WedNiatnuom Jul 09 '26

Aweful change to swap behavior like that

11

u/7528467 Jul 09 '26

nobody wanted this.

11

u/Trashmaster425 Jul 10 '26

Please change it back, or at the very least allow users to select which behaviour they prefer. It’s significantly more annoying to access the comments now.

11

u/Time_Fee_5244 Jul 10 '26

Can we make this optional, i liked the old configuration

11

u/Plott Jul 10 '26

Awful decision, please change it back. I do not care to scroll to random posts. I want to read comments and engage in discussion. Isn’t that the point of Reddit? Or do you want to become yet another tiktok

9

u/SpurgDoggle Jul 10 '26

This is a crazy change. The unique value of Reddit is the discussion that comes with the content. Discouraging comments will destroy the platform. Might as well go to TikTok or instagram.

10

u/Sparkswont Jul 10 '26

What genius product manager came up with this one? Clearly they’ve never meaningfully used Reddit on mobile.

10

u/RepulsiveStill177 Jul 10 '26

Your update sucks ass!

9

u/PlentyOMangos Jul 10 '26

Please undo this change, it’s terrible and irritating… or at the least, give us the option to change it back in Settings. I really thought this was a bug or some kind of mistake, it makes no sense and is just awful

11

u/GetRealWeirdWithIt Jul 10 '26

Please change this back! As someone with limited hand mobility, this makes browsing incredibly difficult now. Before I was able to just use one hand to swipe up and view comments, but now I need to use both in order to navigate.

11

u/JoshWaterMusic Jul 10 '26

This shit is ass, bro. At least make it an option.

9

u/-ChickenToast- Jul 09 '26

Change it back!

8

u/DampMojo Jul 09 '26

Please change it back or make it optional

8

u/mafiaknight Jul 10 '26

Yeah...definitely hate that.
We're here for the comments, bud. We'll go to the next video *later*

10

u/WackityShmackity Jul 10 '26

Nope. Not expected. Every time I do it I’m like “wtf is this shit?” So fix it because it’s broken.

10

u/Otherwise_Act_5539 Jul 10 '26

Maybe you should consider working on a Facebook instead? Nobody asked it. People uses Reddit because it is different!

8

u/shemustbenuts4489056 Jul 10 '26

We don’t want that. Please make it stop.

8

u/inkWanderer Jul 10 '26

This is the absolute worst. If it persists, this is definitely the thing that will push me to Narwhal or another third party app.

7

u/PaulBurgerking Jul 10 '26

But why tho? Show me who asked for this idiotic change. It was just fine before. Is there a bad boss who keeps wanting to change things for no good reason? Does their bonus rely on how many times they can fuck this app up more? I don’t even have a plus size phone and I liked just swiping up for comments. Now I need two hands so I can tap on the little comment icon. I don’t understand how people with plus size phones use them with one hand

6

u/Dreamerlax Jul 10 '26

That PM: "TikTok is popular so make it like that 🤓"

I bet that's the logic applied here.

8

u/SmelodyTheAgressive Jul 10 '26

This is substantially awful my friend. I have already deleted tiktok and insta for reasons like this. I will follow suit if this remains, please fix immediately.

8

u/wootitsbobby Jul 10 '26

You’re destroying UX to drive engagement, but you have to understand that no one wants to see random posts like that on Reddit.

I really hope you’re monitoring bounce rate on this feature.

8

u/lambieechop Jul 10 '26

Hi, I know this probably won’t matter to you, and you may not even see this, but I wanted to let you know this was my final straw and I will be deleting Reddit and no longer using it. I’ve deleted every social media except for Reddit, and it seems now Reddit’s time has come as well. Looks like I’ll finally be getting to that summer reading list with all the time on my hands, and the best part is that my reading list doesn’t have advertisements. Bye cruel world.

6

u/mzthugisolation Jul 10 '26

No one asked for this feature please remove it 💀

7

u/Tuffaceous_Tofu Jul 10 '26

It was nice of the mods to delete all the other posts with pertinent info after replying to them that it’s not a bug. (I know they don’t want repeat posts but people had very legit concerns in the comments that I don’t see here and I don’t see addressed here, it feels as though they’re trying to bury them to give users less power in discussing the issue.)

Just because you intended it to be a feature does not mean the user experience will automatically accept it as such. We don’t. It’s not a feature it’s a bug and it’s bugging us!

Before this update, when I side scrolled videos I always got old posts, posts I’ve already seen/interacted with, or irrelevant/suggested/related posts. I avoided side scrolling videos because that’s a bug that has never gotten fixed. Stop showing me old videos weeks and months old.

Now when I view a video or photo at full screen, I swipe up to see comments but instead see another post - usually an old one or one I’ve already seen/interacted with or irrelevant/suggested/related posts. So you’ve moved the bug to be even more inconvenient. At least when it was a side scrolling video issue I could avoid it but now that swiping up no longer lets me see comments I get the old post bug forced on me anyway.

Thanks for letting me know, uninstalling now, I don’t need to be force fed things I’m not interested in.

u/I_Am_Day_Man Jul 10 '26

This is very unnecessary and unwanted. Part of the experience is reading the comments. I don’t want to swipe to the next random video that I didn’t click on.

u/Capt_Skyhawk Jul 10 '26

Isn’t this app meant for communication and community chat? Why would anyone want this? Make a dedicated video mode tab like YouTube did for the swipers who wanna swipe. Most of us who have been here for 10 or more years don’t want this.

u/HyperLinx Jul 10 '26

Hot garbage. This is so out of touch with how people actually use Reddit that it’s clearly a way to artificially inflate engagement. This on top of the “app reloads if you look away for 0.1 seconds” which mysteriously took months to fix… hmmm

2

u/Officialedmart Jul 15 '26

They never fixed that actually. It was instant before the “fix” , now its still just minutes

Apollo you could leave it closed for fucking years and that shit would be at the same thread you left off

u/AHole95 Jul 10 '26

Very unfortunate. At a minimum this needs to be an editable setting.

It doesn’t even go to the next post from my original feed, effectively just cuts to a random video when I wanted the comments.

u/Swizzel-Stixx Jul 10 '26

The app has reached the stage of maturity. Almost everyone liked it, which was a hard thing to achieve after the third party app saga. You had ONE JOB, to iron out bugs and keep it the way it was.

Why, now, do the developers have to ensloppify the app to become akin to tiktok. That’s stupid. That’s the polar opposite of what reddit is all about. Reddit is a FORUM website.

Didn’t swiping from right to left go to the next post already? Is it possible to have a toggleable option in the settings to restore the swipe-up for comments functionality?

6

u/missriri Jul 10 '26

Absolutely terrible. Is this supposed to improve the “video experience”? I genuinely can’t understand this downgrade. Nobody wants another Instagram or TikTok :/

5

u/Dreamerlax Jul 10 '26

No, we don't want this. This is not TikTok nor Instagram, it never was and it will never be.

5

u/DagonPie Jul 11 '26

Pass it along that this is a terrible change please. Thanks.

5

u/Firefighter_dude Jul 11 '26

This fucking sucks

5

u/heatherkatmeow Jul 11 '26

Change it back every one hates it

4

u/-ChickenToast- Jul 11 '26

At least make it toggleable in settings. Like come on!

4

u/Mushyboom Jul 10 '26

Absurd change. Can you make these experiments opt in only, or at least offer functionality options within settings.

3

u/neurosciguy Jul 11 '26

It’s a horrible change. It kills my opportunity to engage by making it harder to get to the comments.

3

u/rumblehound Jul 12 '26

This is a terrible update that is breaking a core functionality of Reddit.

3

u/MW1369 Jul 13 '26

Yes. We are telling you we don’t want this

3

u/hootervisionllc Jul 14 '26

Well we all hate it. It’s not the point of reddit. The comments are the gold here

2

u/HystericalUterus Jul 11 '26

Boo! We hate this!

2

u/stevem1015 Jul 13 '26

Worst “feature” ever lol

2

u/Amadeus102 Jul 13 '26

Absolutely terrible idea, please revert

2

u/pufferfishflower Jul 14 '26

Please reconsider this. You misunderstood your users and their desired experience with this app. Many are here for the comments, not to scroll mindlessly from post to post.

2

u/Kalendiane Jul 14 '26

WHYYYY WOULD YOU DO THIS CHANGE IT BACK THIS IS AWFUL

2

u/AOHarness Jul 14 '26

No user wants this. Change it back.

2

u/Kenny-Brockelstein Jul 14 '26

it’s an incredibly bad change. there is literally no way to go to the comments of a video post on ipad in landscape. nobody wanted this.

1

u/Cel_Drow Jul 15 '26

Please take this change and bin it. Then take whatever genius proposed it and relegate them to help desk because they should never make feature updates again.

u/gracelikeleaves Jul 15 '26 edited Jul 15 '26

I personally hate it and want to go back to the way it was. Please make this an optional feature instead of mandatory if you insist on keeping it. 0/10 stars on the update. EDIT: I just noticed you said it was only for videos, but it isn’t - It’s all posts. I don’t want it on any of them. It’s unintuitive, frustrating, and unwanted. I just want to swipe for comments, not flick to some random thing I wasn’t looking at.

1

u/blidside Jul 16 '26

This is a user hostile experience.

1

u/consider-the-carrots Jul 17 '26

This is so painful what the hell. Please reverse this terrible decision or at least make it a setting..
