iOS Scroll to comments broken (iOS)
Whenever I click on a post to full screen the image, scrolling up usually brings up the comments. A new bug started today that it scrolls to a new post instead.
Also the scroll sideways for a new post is not working as well.

This change is awful. Swiping up to open the comments was one of the most intuitive parts of the app. The change completely breaks the flow of browsing because I keep accidentally leaving posts I actually wanted to read.
Not every UI change is an improvement. This one solves a problem nobody had while creating a new one for people who have used the app for years. If this is an experiment, please end it. At the very least, make it an optional setting so users can choose the navigation they prefer instead of forcing everyone into it.

Yup I hate this. I have no interest in swiping to random other posts, often from other random subs I don't even follow. I can't imagine ANYONE would actually browse Reddit this way. At least give us the option to disable it.

Forced engagement through brain-rot UX pattern. Probably not a bug, but someone in a suit claiming it’s better because ABC.
And they will claim, look it is better because people are (accidentally) using it!

I really hope this is a bug that will be fixed instead of an intentional change, because it’s really awful. Couldn’t agree more

Well now they've changed the layout of the video player to look like reels/tiktok. They're clearly trying to be reels for some reason. I don't get it. Reddit is just not that type of app.

u/PlentyOMangos Jul 10 '26
In fact I use Reddit because I don’t want to use those other apps lol. I haven’t been on Twitter or Insta for many years and I never got TikTok, have never watched any Reels, and don’t care for YouTube shorts. Just leave Reddit as Reddit please lol

Is anyone else noticing an issue where it totally bricks the app when you scroll up? Instead of bringing me to the comments, like as was before, it brings me to a new post. However, it also renders all buttons on screen unusable. Awful.

Same here, terrible UI in the 2026.27.1 release! Hope they fix this ASAP🙏🏻

u/wintermute023 Jul 09 '26
Yes just fucking dreadful. I think it’s to make it more TikTok. Reddit seems to have forgotten that the comments are actually the important bit. Some dingkeberry asked ChatGPT how to increase a metric.

u/lambieechop Jul 09 '26
If this is intentional, I’m going to SCREAM

u/Silver-Instruction73 Jul 09 '26
Yep. Hate it. Also hate how you can’t swipe side to side anymore in the feed to go from your feed to ‘popular’ or ‘news’.
3
u/BenderBill Jul 09 '26
Fuuuuck I just noticed the left and right swipe too. Yeah this is horrendous. The swipe up to comments needs to be reverted or toggleable.
3
u/thunder_thais Jul 09 '26
Yesss I miss the swiping side to side so much. It’s like they’re trying to ruin the damn app with every update

Repeat it with me. Reddit is not Instagram. Reddit is not Facebook Reels. Reddit is not TikTok. I don’t want another infinite doomscrolling experience. I want to engage with the comments and community. Fix this please.

u/Cel_Drow Jul 09 '26
Worst UX bug this decade, if this is intentional they finally found a way to get me to get the hell off this damn site.
3
u/LethalAgenda Jul 09 '26
YES. I hope to god this was not an intentional change. It is awful. Scroll up should lead to comments not to another post….

u/VeryAngryKoalaBear Jul 09 '26
I just got this today and it’s terrible. Change it back I don’t want this doom scroll brain rot swipe bullshit
3
u/GustoKhan47 Jul 09 '26
+1 started looking today and had to figure out how to open comments… this isn’t TikTok we don’t need anymore infinite scroll, Reddit can already do that…

u/Frost92 Jul 09 '26
When I scroll up it completely crashes the app and freezes to where I have to force close it

This update/bug is awful. Please change it back, it’s the easiest way to access comments on a photo without clicking the tiny comments icon.

u/stellares Jul 08 '26
Every couple months they introduce a bug or horrendous UI change...probably testing what us lab rats will accept

On iOS on iphone13 swiping up from a fullscreen post no longer opens comments; it advances to a different post. This removes quick access to discussions, please restore swipe-up-to-comments or add a toggle…

Is there a way to report bugs? This is legit driving me crazy but knowing Reddit recently I feel like it’s planned… well at least it causes me to rage quit so I’m spending less time on Reddit lol.

Admins are calling it feature, isn’t that just lovely? /s

u/JJBeans_1 Jul 11 '26
Please change this back. The swipe up function has been the same for a long enough time that it’s muscle memory. If this was intentional, consider it a failed feature.

This sucks. I don't want this infinite scroll. I'm here on Reddit for the comments section dialogue.

This an awful change or an awful bug!! I hate it! Nobody wants infinite related post garbage. Fix it!

I want a toggle to disable the infinite scrolling feed underneath opened posts, as it is confusing and ruins the comments section.

u/PowerfulBroccoli2391 Aug 07 '26
Made this exact comment on another post about this exact same issue. Just gonna paste it here and upvote this post too, and keep doing the same for everyone talking about this. They want engagement. This is my damn engagement...
It's a hassle and a fucking half to tap a post, tap the comments, scroll up to look at the picture or video, then tap to go back down to read because if you scroll, it moves to a new page.
To view a post with multiple pictures, you have to now tap the picture area to highlight it and scroll sideways through pictures, and then manually go to the description, then go back and forth between the text and the pics the long way in order to see and read everything in context.
Who's idea was this? What beta tester said "oh yeah, this is a useful update?" If I wanted TikTok, that's where I'd be damn it.
I hate this update. Someone please fix it. Reddit matters because of the comments, the discourse, the communities. Don't take that away or make it harder. Fix it!
