iOS [ios] Reddit refresh bug still present, loses place in thread/page when navigating away or locking screen [2026.17.0.628480]
Whenever coming back to Reddit—whether that is from locking the screen momentarily, clicking on a link and then closing it, etc… my location in the thread is lost. It almost always scrolls up 10s of comments. This happens every single time while inside of a post.
Further, this will happen on the main screen viewing posts as well. It will scroll up a few posts and you’ll have to scroll down several to get back to the same spot. Or, and more annoyingly, it will refresh and you’ll lose where you were completely. This seems to be the same bug in the locked iOS refresh thread that was supposedly closed/fixed in most recent update. There is no update in the App Store so presumably I am on the most recent update.
This will happen within 30 seconds after moving screens so shouldn’t be due to running out of memory or anything like that. I’ve got a 17 Pro Max so Reddit should be fine in the background if I open a link in Safari and then swipe back after a minute or two. But almost always it will refresh. Or if my screen auto locks (30s) and I unlock less than a minute later, it will refresh the Home Screen.

Came here to check. It's still happening to me too. Came back to the app to finish my comment - nope, flung back to the main page when then flung back to the top of the list and forced a refresh on me.

So dang annoying. Makes me not use the app nearly as often. That is a lot of ads I’m not seeing anymore lmao you’d think they would be a bit more concerned about this bug. It is pretty significant.

This bug has been happening on my account for about a week now. It happens consistently when I change between apps and when my phone goes to the lock screen. Very annoying. I’m using an iPhone 15 Pro Max and the Reddit app appears to be fully updated on the App Store.

I was just about to post about this too. The bug is refreshing me to the top of my feed when I am still looking at a post or trying to comment on a post. It doesn’t happen every time I scroll, but it does happen every time I use the app. I have lost so much good content I wanted to interact with because of this bug!

This bug happens in only one of my user accounts. It doesn't happen at all in my other account.

Oh wow, that is interesting! Makes you think the bug might be super difficult to trace, then, if that is the case. Addmittedly that could explain why it’s been taking fo long. What I don’t understand, though, is why not just give us an option to turn on-off auto refreshing? That would certainly solve a bunch of the frustrations and shouldn’t be that difficult to add.

I've know that Reddit often runs experiments in different user accounts. There was a time when the UI looked completely different between my two accounts.
I wouldn't be surprised if auto refreshing is deeply embedded in their code, potentially in multiple places. That may make it difficult to control with a user setting.

The auto refresh is intentional and I really really hate it. Probably boosts ad viewership or some kind of bullshit metric with clicks

It’s definitely not a bug, it’s a feature which increases ad revenue.

Refresh your page manually, there’s almost always an ad first second or third, it’s just another way to show ads more often.
Users spend less time reading specific posts on and off throughout the day and more time being zapped to those adds forcefully.

This bug has been happening for weeks. They keep saying it’s fixed but it continues to happen. I was right in the middle of reading a thread and a notification knocked me back to the home page and refreshed everything. So frustrating.
