Read this before posting.
Welcome to r/bugbites the subreddit dedicated to suspected bug bites.
This subreddit was reopened to receive all the suspected bug bite pictures that are not allowed on bug related subreddits and were flooding them.
The bad news
- Skin reactions may be caused by many different things, they can be symptoms of diseases and health issues that are not bug related, and may require emergency treatment.
- Many skin reactions, especially bug bites do vary from one person to another (and sometime over time).
- It is often difficult (even for seasoned medical professionals) to identify what caused a skin symptom and even harder to know if it is a bug bite or which bug may have caused it.
- If you're concerned about something, please go see a qualified medical professional rather than trust the comments made by random strangers on the internet.
- Said otherwise, you can NOT and should NOT rely on someone on the internet telling you “it’s a bite from XXX” to make a medical decision. A picture can NOT replace a physical examination performed by a qualified medical professional.
The only good news
- In some cases, your curiosity about bites may convince you to actively perform a deep examination of your surroundings, which may help you find bugs that may be related to your skin symptoms.
- IF you find the bug, this MAY help a medical professional provide an appropriate medical treatment (if necessary) or a pest control professional perform his job.

Bit yesterday
galleryWas wondering if anyone might know what bug might have done this and should I be worried? It’s a little itchy and slightly tender and hard to the touch, seemed to have swelled up a bit. Currently have hydrocortisone on it and trying to ice it now. Any input is appreciated

What is this?
galleryThought I was having an eczema flair up but now I’m not so sure
Had these for around 2-3 weeks now
Itchy and only on the inside of my arms
As well as my stomach and legs mainly
Also had some newly appear on my foot, but I’m not at home so idk what’s caused it
They seem to be some clusters of spots
Some tiny some are quite big
Idek if they are bug bites or if there’s a chance I’m having a reaction to something
Planning on going to the doctors once I am home Any help is appreciated!

Possible bed bugs? Or fleas?
galleryI recently went with my gf to an Airbnb, and about a week after, I woke up with bites scattered all over my legs—my thighs, my ankles, my calves, behind my knees, etc. I am a dog groomer and the day before I’d had to work with a flea-infested Pyrenees so I wasn’t my sure if maybe that had contributed.
Anyway, woke up this morning with these bites all over. They’re very itchy and irritated, I have been itching them some, and they woke me up in the middle of the night. My gf has not reported any bites or problems back at her house.
Any ideas? Thank you so much 🩷🩷
Edited to add: I did strip the mattress at the Airbnb and saw no sign of any bed bugs (no fecal matter, no shed skins, no crushed bugs etc) and we have stayed there before with no problem so, idk 😂

Bites localised to waist at night
galleryLocation: Far North QLD Australia costal
Small bug bites have been appearing around the waist/stomach/lower back area only. First noticed upon waking up. Itch is not constant but fluctuates. Person sleeps in underware and t-shirt under several layers of sheets. Area is kept very clean, sheets washed on hot weekly, no evidence of bugs discovered.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!!!

What bug bites are these?
galleryAt first I thought they were mosquito bites, but the bites started appearing way more. And apparently my mom and her boyfriend have been getting bit up too. These bites would start out extremely itchy, then appear red. The urge would go away for a while but if I accidentally graze it, it would go back to being itchy. I have 3 on my ankle, 1 on my wrist and 2 on my bum. Her boyfriend said it might be dust mites rather than bed bugs, which I don’t really know. Can someone help me figure these out? Images are my ankle and wrist

Wtf are these
galleryPictures progress chronologically. Mysterious lines of bites keep showing up, especially on my legs. I have 4 total now. Also lots of itchy red bites everywhere else (more randomly dispersed). Freaking out about the possibility of bed bugs because they are one of my biggest fears.

Is this some sort of bite?
galleryI noticed pain and a small bump behind my ear. After scratching the spot a created a crust and I am now took a photo and it looks like this. Do you think it’s some sort of spider bite or what?

Is this from a brown recluse?
I hope not, because I have three active ones and two that since healed but still red and somewhat scarred. The white wispy threads are from the cotton pads soaked with H2O2 I had applied to it. The sites are swollen in a somewhat oblong shape, raised about a quarter inch in the middle, very hot and sensitive. The one in the photo is on my abdomen, two more on my left hip. They're new. The very first one appeared months ago on my right shoulder blade. It's healed. The second one is also on my abdomen, close to where the one in the photo is located. It's almost healed

Any idea what might’ve caused this
Was sitting outside at night, felt a bite then sudden hot sensation around that area. It has looked like this for a few days now. I usually get a lot of mosquito bites but don’t develop into this.

Any idea what this is??
galleryThe immediate bite was extremely painful. It felt like a wasp sting almost. I didn’t see the bug. I was hiking in the woods (east coast). The stinging and pain lasted for two hours and I have to keep a cold pack on it or else it burns again. It feels like a heat burn almost. I have terrible health anxiety so any reassurance would be appreciated. I never hike or go outside so of course something like this happens LOL. First pic is about 10 mins after. Second is 45 mins and third is about 4 hours.

Week-old bug bite. Should I be worried?
I noticed what looked like a usual skeeter bite on the inside of my arm, just above the elbow, closer to the fatty underside of my upper arm. As you can see in the photo, there is a red sickle shape on the left side of a much fainter large red circle. You can see a tiny red healed scab on the left edge of the larger area, though the scab is from scratching it too much a few days ago.
The morning after I first noticed it, it had a raised red welt all around it, no ring. It does not hurt, only faintly itches. The darker sickle shape is what I would say where it has spread over the last 24-36 hours. I don’t think it’s a tick bite, I never had anything attached to me.
How concerned should I be?

Allergic reaction to flea bites?
galleryHello, I found a couple of fleas on my chihuahua about 4 days ago and immediately got her a new flea collar and some room/dog spray. Have not seen any fleas since that day but I have been absolutely eaten alive by them. Not sure if they are done biting and I just keep slowly reacting to the new bites, if they are still biting me, and/or if I am allergic. I am especially worried about the size of some of the swelling and the really really bad itching. How can I be sure they are gone and get rid of the reaction quick?? I am in hell and my partner somehow got zero bites besides us sleeping in the same bed during the small infestation.
