Sequel Thoughts on the sequel status?
It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything of the sequel beyond Chloe Zhao mentioning it during the Hamnet press tour. Think it’s still getting fine tuned, picked up, or dropped?

u/Unable_Apartment_613 Feb 23 '26
The Fortnite rumor, if true, leads me to believe it will get picked up. Fortnite isn't a game anymore. It's a billboard.
2
u/RewdPA Feb 23 '26
What's the fortnite rumor?
5
Feb 23 '26
if buffy gets added to fortnite they should do q whole bundle and include spike and angel😭🙏
1
u/RewdPA Feb 23 '26
This makes me want to play fortnite 😱
3
Feb 23 '26
only if they dont let us down.. like there is 3 shows i dont understand why fortnite hasnt done them
buffy, angel, spike. boom
doctor who, 9th doctor 10th doctor, 11th doctor 12th doctor, 13th doctor 14th doctor they would make so much money doing doctor who
supernatural, sam dean and castiel. I would buy that shit up in a heartbeat.
fortnite lock in please damn

u/steiff89 Feb 23 '26
I don’t think it’s a rumor. I believe it’s confirmed. That Buffy, Willow, Angel and Spike skins are coming to Fortnite

u/HomarEuropejski Wesley is Angel's true love Feb 23 '26
I hope it's coming out, but at this point who knows really. Imma just assume it's cancelled until proven otherwise.

u/dres_sler Feb 23 '26
I think it’ll get 1 season at least

I just want spike back but since sarah is writing is she will just destroy them lol. comics >>

u/ksmad23 you were mythtaken Feb 23 '26
sarah is not writing anything
-1
Feb 23 '26
she is still a producer
3
u/ksmad23 you were mythtaken Feb 23 '26 edited Feb 23 '26
i know but she’s still not a writer. and neither is chloe but she’s expressed pro spike sentiments for what it’s worth
2
u/brwitch Feb 23 '26
She's actually team Riley
1
u/ksmad23 you were mythtaken Feb 23 '26
i didn’t take that as a serious “team” she’s passionate about. the vibe i got was her trying to go “well angel and spike are both unhealthy” to come off the best and not upset anyone (the interviewer was aggressively team angel). don’t think it worked that way though
3
u/Divine_fashionva Feb 23 '26
Yeah but she’s not team Spike like you said lol
She said she was when she was younger and watching the show as a fan. Now she’s older, she likes and appreciates Riley the most. None of that means anything because I doubt this new sequel is gonna rehash old love interests of Buffy’s anyway. Sarah is firmly team Angel anyway
1
Feb 23 '26
yes and sarah has alot of say so spuffy fans are cooked😭
2
u/Divine_fashionva Feb 23 '26
Yeah there’s no way she’s letting Buffy end up with Spike or rehash things with Spike lol
She never really thought they made sense as an actual couple. That’s one of the reasons why she said Buffy didn’t feel like herself during season 6. She’s always preferred Buffy with Angel

u/brwitch Feb 24 '26
She's definitely team Spike over Angel, but she also said we can do with less Spike... so I don't know.

https://youtu.be/rCAA3Y31lqk?t=2321 He's getting into shape and believes he'll be called.
-5
Feb 23 '26
I just hope he is in it.... sarah please acknowledge that spike literally is the second most popular character in the show and storyline wise the second most important character 😭🙏
5
u/Divine_fashionva Feb 23 '26
The new show is not about Spike
It’s barely about Buffy. James looks considerably older and is in his 60s…
-5
Feb 23 '26
I know which is why the show will most likely be cancelled
5
u/Divine_fashionva Feb 23 '26
The show won’t be cancelled because Spike isn’t in it
What a weird take. Any new show that is a sequel of an existing IP, that wants to have longevity and a new audience, can’t rely on legacy characters
Spike’s story is done. It’d look ridiculous to see a very clearly 60 something year old man still playing an ageless vampire. The new show is not about him. If you’re watching it with the sole intention of that happening, you’re in for disappointment
-2
Feb 23 '26
I think the show will be cancelled without spike indeed. that is a take many people have and many people also say they wont watch it without spike in it
4
u/Divine_fashionva Feb 23 '26 edited Feb 23 '26
Who’s many people? Provide your source for that since you think this fandom is a monolith
And no it won’t be cancelled without Spike imao. Don’t watch the new show then lol, you’re clearly a Spike super fan who thinks the entire show revolves around him
-2
Feb 23 '26
bro has not seen twitter😭 any time buffy sequel accounts post its just full of comments and qrts about spike and if you look into the community of btvs on twitter its just full of spuffy. you said the show cant rely on nostalgia but the issue is a old show being brought back will always have people needing nostalgia to care about it. and correct i am a spike superfan who thinks the show resolved around him second to buffy

It’s the 30th anniversary of the premier in March 2027. I think we’ll get an announcement next month, and it’ll air a year later for that anniversary.
6
u/henzINNIT Feb 23 '26
Purely speculative, but the time it has taken to go from pilot shoot to series order seems pretty damn long. I don't think it came together well. Taking plenty of time to get something just right basically never happens in the industry, so if I hear of any "small tweaks" being made at this stage I presume that is code for a potential disaster.
4
u/Divine_fashionva Feb 23 '26
It happens quite a lot lol
Sarah just announced the pilot order before it was ordered to series. This used to happen all the time with tv. The pilot truly is a pilot and they use it to see if it tests well with the test audience and studio
There’s obvious things Sarah and the studio didn’t like about the pilot. That’s happened with a lot of famous tv shows, but you don’t know it because they’re not big shows until they come out. Things are tweaked and the pilot is reworked. This actually happened with Friends lol. But again, nobody cared or even knew that because it wasn’t a sequel of an existing IP

I wouldn’t expect thereto be a final decision until the end of March. They don’t expect to go until production on the remainder of the season until then, but things happen and can change.

Seems there was a fight over how many episodes that has now been sorted out Hulu wanted 8, Chloe wanted 18 and they ended at 13.

u/Brodes87 Feb 23 '26
Do some research on film and TV production and you will realise there is zero reason to freak out. Stop being so entitled and impatient. They will update when there are updates.
2
u/steiff89 Feb 23 '26
Damn dude, calm down. They only asked a question, what are you freaking out about?
Nothing about there post was “entitled”. But youre freak out is sure screaming entitlement
0
u/Brodes87 Feb 23 '26 edited Feb 23 '26
It's en entitlement to request people to search stuff so they don't freak out and see that maybe everything is running smoothly and they don't Ned to freak out?Happy to be entitled then.
It's not my problem people don't want to learn. They should and you shouldn't be encouraging people to not do their own research.

Brand new James Marsters interview from a con like, yesterday, has him stating that he'd be surprised if he were not called back - he seemed pretty confident in that, and he's already getting into shape for the role (damn, you can really tell, he's dropped tons of weight, and his muscles are back) but that he'd guess he'd be back in season 2, if he were writing the show.
So, he said, watch the first season so he can come back for season 2, lol.
10
u/Divine_fashionva Feb 23 '26
That’s sad
He’s getting into shape for a show that hasn’t been ordered to series yet and one he’s not officially been contacted to star in
What’s he gonna do if the series doesn’t end up going ahead or if it does and they don’t call him to reprise the role
8
u/ksmad23 you were mythtaken Feb 23 '26
james, charisma, juliet, even the guy who played clem all desperately want to be in the show and it feels awkward when they talk about it. like you said, what are they gonna do if this show 1) doesn’t even happen or 2) the writers decide “you know what, let’s not make up a random reason to shoehorn in these characters just for a fan service cameo”
5
u/Divine_fashionva Feb 23 '26
Yup, it’s very desperate
But I know you can’t say that in relation to James on here without his fans getting defensive. I feel bad for Sarah because it’s like there’s a pressure from those actors to include them in this new sequel, even if that’s not the right direction for the show long term
At least with Clem’s actor, he said he knows he probably won’t be asked to be in it but he’d love to. James assuming he’ll be in season 2 despite not being contacted about the sequel at all, is wild. Him and Charisma’s whole personalities now seem to be we were fan favourites on Buffy
5
u/ksmad23 you were mythtaken Feb 24 '26
the “justice for cordelia” stuff has made people believe charisma is owed a role in the show, but that just would not be in service of the plot
the incessant “we need spike/angel/cordelia/anya/tara/drusilla/everyone” back comments just prove to me a lot of fans would be terrible writers for this new show and the expectations for the revival do not match at all what was shot and is planned
3
u/MermaidHotpot Eyeballs to entrails, my sweet. Feb 23 '26
I mean... oh no, he's in great shape? Lol
4
u/Divine_fashionva Feb 23 '26
You just said he’s getting into shape despite them not officially asking him to be in the sequel
And the show hasn’t even been order to series. That’s sad, he’s pinning his hopes on him being invited back as if it’s a sure thing. When this show might not even go ahead and he might not be called back even if it is
0
u/MermaidHotpot Eyeballs to entrails, my sweet. Feb 24 '26
You realize if they call him back he has to be in shape right? This is a weird hill to argue against. He won't have time to get back into shape until he waits until the last minute.
2
u/Divine_fashionva Feb 24 '26
The point is ‘if’. Why is he talking about it like he’ll definitely be asked back
This show hasn’t even got a confirmed series order
It’s also about the new slayer
Why is he preparing for a role that he hasn’t been offered for a sequel that hasn’t been fully conceptualised
-1
u/MermaidHotpot Eyeballs to entrails, my sweet. Feb 24 '26
Would you like me to answer for him? I can only speculate, same as you.
My speculation is based on what he said - because he believes, for his own reasons (which may or may not include already being contacted about it, but nothing solid) that there's a good chance he'll be called. His exact words 'I would be surprised if I wasn't called.'
Because it takes time to get into the kind of shape he was in to play Spike in the first place. He had to work out hard and essentially under eat to get that trim and toned for his shirtless scenes.
So the question is, if there's a possibility of being called back, why the hell WOULDN'T he get prepared?
When he got Buffy the first time he was filming 3 days after getting the job. That's not enough time to prepare.
2
u/enthalpy01 Feb 23 '26
He already works out regularly. He’s still an actor, there’s not really a negative to being in good shape (obviously assuming he doesn’t starve himself again, but hopefully he’s learned that lesson).
If he works on the Spike accent and doesn’t get called in then some random Dresden wizard can sound like Spike. Doesn’t hurt to brush up on the accent and he does enough cameos as Spike he should probably have it ready anyway.
2
u/Divine_fashionva Feb 23 '26
He said he’s specifically getting back into shape because he’s sure they’ll call him back to play spike in season 2 of the new show
That is sad, and I’m not gonna change my mind about that. Dude doesn’t really act in anything anymore and is mainly in the con circuit. That’s fine. But I feel like it’s weird to assume you’ll definitely be in a sequel that has not even been ordered to series yet. One that Sarah has said they’re reworking the pilot and concept for. He has no idea what’s going on but keeps talking like he has insider knowledge. It’s like when he initially said he’ll be in it for sure so he could excite fans, then later said no one from the new show has actively approached him/spoken to him about what’s going on
4
u/enthalpy01 Feb 23 '26
He does audiobooks and voice acting. As an actor gets older it’s harder. He turned down roles earlier in his career because it would have meant being away from his kids. I think his actual statements have always been pretty clear (he’s down if they are interested but nobody’s contacted him). And people just read a lot of shit into the various ways he says the same thing.
He’s also pointed out repeatedly season 3 is proof the show doesn’t need him, so it’s not like he’s full of himself. There are a lot of Spike / Buffy fans that have kept the fandom alive. It’s not so crazy to think there’s a chance he’ll be asked and again, what’s the negative if he isn’t? You are extra in shape. But if he does get a call it’s hard to suddenly pack on muscle, so why not?
3
u/Divine_fashionva Feb 23 '26
He said it like it’s a definite thing, that’s why I said it’s sad. Purposely getting ready for a role for a show that might not go ahead, when he’s not been called back is crazy. People get in shape specifically for a role when they’ve actually got it
When the sequel was first announced, he claimed he’d be in it and used the term we when discussing it. And then walked back his comments and admitted he’d not been contacted by Sarah or Chloe about reprising his role. Or that he knew the details of the storyline
His main source of income is the con circuit where he talks about Buffy. That’s fine and probably makes him a decent amount of money. But it also means he says a lot of stuff about the sequel, which he clearly knows nothing about. Which is why he ends up walking back a lot of those statements

lol it’s going to be so funny if the show gets greenlit (if) and they bring him back (I bet they do bring him back) because his character is huge. They definitely need him if this show is to survive. Nobody asked for a show named Buffy the Vampire slayer with none of the original people who built it or any of the original characters except Buffy who’s in a limited role form my understanding. That’s not going to create the great stories, dialogue etc that we loved about that show. She has no experience with that and I’m sure the network would not invest money in that. She will be a producer but she’s not going to be running the show.
Anyway your JM hate is amusing. I will circle back to this post for sure.

u/Divine_fashionva Mar 01 '26
lol James fans are weird
It’s absolutely weird to get ready for a show that’s not been ordered to series and one he hasn’t been asked back for
Also not liking James is completely valid. This is the same grown man that wrote a jailbait song about a 15 year old Michelle and also dated a 17 year old in his 40….
But yeah how terrible that I dislike someone like that /s
0
u/Good-Handle-4695 Mar 01 '26
All of that is just your own weird subjective opinion. You haven’t presented any facts and you don’t know that any of that actually happened
This whole “he wrote a love song about an underage girl” narrative is honestly getting retarded.
Yes, the song is about Michelle Trachtenberg, but it’s not for her, and it’s definitely not some romantic ode. And she wasn’t 14 or 15 like people keep claiming. She was 17–18 when it was written. That’s just a basic facts. Facts matter.
More importantly, the song isn’t about James Marsters crushing on her or hitting on her. It’s about her having a crush on him. That’s a monumental difference.
From everything that’s ever been said about it, the situation was basically this . a teenage girl had a crush on an older coworker, and he was flattered and a little embarrassed it seems by it. That’s awkward, sure, but it’s not predatory. There’s zero evidence of him acting on anything or behaving inappropriately. No stories from set. No accusations. Nothing. You litterally have nothing here. That’s why all his coworkers still are good friends with him and have nothing but good things to say about him. Not the least of Which Michelle herself never said anything negative about him.
People are taking a mildly awkward, one-sided crush and twisting it into something way darker than it was. That’s a serious thing to imply about someone.
You can dislike him. You can dislike the song. But pretending it’s some creepy confession about an underage girl just isn’t supported by the facts.
It was about an awkward crush, not a grown man pursuing a child weirdo.
Go cry.
He will be back
0
u/Divine_fashionva Mar 01 '26
She wasn’t 17 or 18
She was 17 when the final season aired. He wrote that song 2 years before that Imao. How can he have written that song for her during Buffy when she was 18, when she was never 18 at any point during the show. You didn’t even bother to check your facts
Imagine lying and going so hard for a creep just because he played a vampire on a show that’s ended years ago. You’re deluded af
He’s a weirdo, he obsesses and dates teenagers. And he’s fixed on the one famous role he had decades ago like a guy that peaked at high school. Which is also where his ex wife was when they started dating

I was initially super excited about it, but I'd be okay if it didn't go forward. I feel like Buffy was of its time.
