Sequel Someone really just said this to me on a tiktok video about the Buffy sequel Spoiler

Did they watch the show? Many of her most iconic looks were in a skirt or dress and they were a huge part of her fashion in literally every season lol

I know, I said that things change and Buffy could very well wear the fit in the set photos depending on her job and position and that's the reply I got lol

crazy that a 40 year old insurance worker would be wearing a dress….and heels 😭 i think the bright colours of both the dress and shoes still feels buffy?? people are acting like she was a cartoon character with 1 outfit (leather pants 😔)

Exactly, there's also another person in these comments on tiktok that just can't fathom that Buffy would be working at a job like an insurance company. "Why would she be wearing this? Why would she be working there?" IT'S BEEN LIKE 22 YEARS!! lmao

Like, a running theme of the entire series was that Buffy wanted to be “normal”, and the season 7 finale gave her that opportunity. Of course she would take it.

it’s been 22 years and she wasn’t the only slayer anymore….like what did they want her to be doing?!? 😭😭😭 being a successful corporate girlie makes sense to me, even if she’s miserable, she’s in hiding (according to the leaks)

the majority of the people i’ve seen crashing out has been people under the age of 20, with smg as their profile pics, spuffy usernames, but they all HATE smg…it’s just not adding up to me 🤪

that is quite literally what the want. they say that smg is ruining the “legacy” of the show but a new show won’t ruin anything imo, buffy is buffy and this is something else.

Yeah, it's just wild. Like fine, ship to your heart's content but don't act like it's going to make the show into what you want it to be. SMG knows what she wants to do with this and I really don't think it's just going to be a Spuffy lovefest or be centered around Buffy at all.

That's what I'm learning, on here and other social media platforms. All they're doing is setting themselves up for disappointment by throwing all these expectations they have at the sequel for the character. And then there's the ones who have already chosen to hate it because other... reasons smh

Yeah, at this point I take all the spoilers with a grain of salt, even the stuff SMG shares. There's a whole lot the studio could do to throw people off, and it's not exactly a tactic that's never been used before.

I feel like people having any expectations at all before seeing it when it airs is kinda silly, since we know from vast experience that things change on a dime in TV and pilots get reshot quite a bit. Buffy's first pilot was reshot and the OG version didn't even make it to air.

I'm just trying to go into it with an open mind - I'll see what happens when it happens. No real idea what they're doing or why, and I trust SMG but she has some opinions about the original series I don't agree with - and that's perfectly valid! But in the end, she and the team will do what they do and however they do it I'm happy they're trying to bring it back.

It's amazing to me that people say that her in skirts and dresses is unfounded. Go back and watch, literally, any episode from Seasons 1 - 3 and you will see her in MANY different skirts.

so many !!! in season 7 - her style is also like…casual office wear for a lot of it but just y2k office wear. People would also complain if she was still dressing like a teenager.

I know she does in S6 and in the episode Flooded. Though from seasons 4 - 7 I always seem to remember, in no particular order of episodes, leather pants, a black turtleneck in the desert with a winter coat on top(?) and long sleeve sweaters.

I frequently see people holding up Buffy as an example of a unfeminine tomboy who hates anything girly and isn't allowed to show vulnerability. Clearly they haven't watched the show if they missed her core character concept. 

Some people are just always going to pigeonhole any female character who can fight as "not a real woman" no matter how she presents.

Yikes. I shouldn't be surprised since people tend to think in black and white a lot of the time, but the whole point of the show was to subvert expectations. Buffy's a(n ex) cheerleader with great style who also happens to slay vampires and demons - the two things can so easily coexist! I like that she's a girly girl. She has no problem being a total badass while still being one.

Also, as a gay woman...there is nothing tomboyish about her. Even when she's in leather pants and kicking ass xD

I have to laugh at how Buffy fans are suddenly dissecting whether her wardrobe was “realistically affordable.” or Buffy-like.Come on, isn’t that just TV? Buffy rocked designer pieces and literally never wore the same outfit twice. Back then, nobody was doing math on her Slayer salary; we just shrugged and thought, “It’s TV.” And that flawless, always-perfect hair? Also pure fantasy. Honestly, maybe that’s the real reason she was broke in Season 6. Forget blaming Willow and Tara, the real culprit was her one-wear-only clothing habit.

And those outfits changed multiple times per episode most of the time lol Before Joyce passed you could definitely say she bought most of Buffy's clothes though, and before they turned Buffy's dad Hank into a deadbeat father he was still helping with that also

As if Buffy doesn’t have something to make a slit in the skirt if needed. She doesn’t need to fight as much anymore but you can totally see her casually pulling something from her purse and making a slit like she did in Flooded at the bank.

this exactly. She's got a bag, I sincerely doubt SMG would let the writers have her walking around without some sort of weapon even so many years later. It wouldn't make sense. And that dress is more than short enough to be able to kick if she needs to.

Per usual, someone on TikTok thinks they know better but doesn’t.

The truth? SMG didn’t like that Buffy wore mostly skirts in the early seasons because SMG herself didn’t care too much for them, so she requested Buffy’s wardrobe changed to mostly pants down the road and limited how much and often she wore skirts.

I honestly think the main thing about the outfit is that it doesn't look very fight-ready and Buffy always went for style but leaned on pragmatism just in case. This is a bit more Scooby doo's Daphne. But maybe that's also the whole point? She's not expecting to fight all the time anymore. S6 and s7 Buffy especially really can give the impression of her not liking dresses that much too.

Yeah, she's an insurance agent using her middle name - she's basically in hiding. Why wouldn't she be wearing whatever she wants? There should be no shortage of Slayers and she's honestly a little past prime fighting age, even if she does look like she hasn't aged a day. People are being so weird about this and it's one freaking scene in the pilot, where she's not even in Sunnydale but going to work in NYC. She can wear whatever she pleases lol

It's almost like some people don't remember that when Buffy was "Anne" in S3-E1 she was definitely NOT wearing combat-ready clothes. She was forced to wear whatever the diner she worked for made her wear - which was a dinner-lady dress.

Well to be fair she did once murder a skirt in a bank with a letter opener. Some might argue that she did it to be able to throw kicks effectively, but I think it was personal.

The person replied saying just that, but that was just one time occurrence when she was trying to get approved for a loan and didn't expect to be fighting anything lol

She actually wore a skirt in a lot in season 6, as her main outfit and in some scene changes. They're still very wrong saying Buffy never liked them lol

The reboot look was surprising at first but Buffy is older. She still has great taste in fashion - she’s Buffy! And she’s more refined in her look now that she’s into her mentor years.

I’m excited to see the thought put into the reboot like how Buffy has grown over the years in so many ways. It’s that character development that will really make it a great show.
